Never playing one of these games with dialup, I would like to see an online multiplayer game were people can gather resources (wood, stones…) and build their houses or forts. The managers of the game would set up an world that would grow. A board game similar to this idea is Settlers. Where you try to take over the land with roads and buildings while working with the land around you.

The developers could have “spies” that are their own characters who add to the story by speading stories of treasures. They could cause all kinds of changes in the users life. I would give the user several vehicles to use. Air planes and underwater vehicles. I would not limit the user to land. I played a game called “Mean Street” that allowed side scrolling, 3D flying, and video conferencing.

Ideas for the world could be the Old West or Mad Max. I would consider adding character moves similar to Tomb Raiders.

Old Card Game: I have a newer Sierra / Hoyle card game but it is nothing like the old one I had. I had one where there were classic characters that would talk as well as a varity of Sierra characters. What size disk did this game come with? Is it still available?

Recently Microsoft has started fixing it so that you must have 2000 or XP installed to run some of the newer games. At the same time, it has done nothing to make the OS more backwards compatible (even some games from as recent as two or three years ago won’t run well on it). And if that’s not unsporting, I don’t know what is.

It will be a completely different system from the forums. But, thanks for the link! This site has been around (in its current incarnation) since early 2003 – I think.

I suggest you might want to look at how Ancestry.com sets up there message board. They have a tree structure with each new thread. It is very similar to Windows Explorer. I have clicked on Newest Messages and seen messages from several years ago but not the new ones I had posted. How long has this sight existed?

I completely agree! Who do those darn eBay sellers think they are? Giving their buyers simple, working and proven solutions instead of needlessly complicated ones, the nerve! I think it’s just plain wrong that they deprive their buyers of an intellectual challenge! Don’t they know that the frustration of getting an old DOS game to work on XP is almost as much fun as playing the actual game?

I’m so 1337 that I run all my old Sierra games in a DOSBox that runs in Wine that I installed on Linux which runs on my VMWare installation on Windows XP! Do eBay sellers ever tell you to do that? No! Because they’re all stupid n00bs! Aaaarrgghhhh!!!!!

    Peter,

Thanks for the reply. Like you said, many of us had similar stories of our earlier years and Sierra. It is interesting how we ended up in so many different walks of life. We can all share our memories of our experiences with the games and the company.

I don’t think there’s any Sierra programmers here on these boards (except Ken and Al Lowe), but this seems like more of a question for the designers. Ken, perhaps Roberta might have some thoughts on this? Al Lowe, are you still lurking around here? Any thoughts?

Hello, how did you get QFG5 Dragon Fire to play off your hard drive? And Phantasmagoria? I tried QFG5 but it wants the “Play” CD before it starts the game. Please let me know how?!!!

The movies are VMDs. Here is a link to VAG’s VMD player. VAG has said that he might release a version that will export other formats, but, development VERY slow.

I’ve been leaving the message board code alone, because it is slated for rewrite (from asp to .net). When I do the rewrite, I’ll fix several things that have been annoying. I just finished rewriting the polling feature this weekend, and that’s the last significant component before I start on the message boards. I’m fighting a messy bug now, but should start the message board rewrite mid-week. I’m guessing it will take 2-3 weeks (which is amazing given that I wrote this code in a week).

The way that Ken’s message board system works, there currently is not a way to do that unfortunately.

    I have a related question.

Does anyone know of some way to stretch the movie clips so they play full screen?

Nevermind. Found it. But is there a way from within the page. I had to back up to the main page to get where I wanted.

I have two sealed copies and one open, but I want to keep them all. Try ebay from time to time, but expect a high price!

That collection is very cool, you should really get it somehow 😀 Hehe, I’m evil.

It’s amazing how many of these stories are out there…

Your story sounds almost exactly like mine. You, however, seemed to hold it together much better than I. I blacked out when I met Ken Williams, then again when we ran into Roberta in the hallway.

I was just chatting today with my family of the honor I had in testing the 900 info line for Sierra. It seems I called it so much they felt that I could have some input as to how well it worked. For helping them I received Manhunter. I kept insisting that I had gotten more than enough just by being able to be a small part of helping the company.

I never get tired of telling the story of the PC jr orphans club in Oklahoma City near where I live. At age 12, I was allowed to do a presentation of Sierra games. I contacted Sierra, and told them what I was trying to do, asking for any advice they had. Three days later I received a HUGE box FULL of shirts, demo disks, boxes, cards, and information packets for the meeting. Try that with the Sierra of today…

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story, and your love for Sierra. I’m so glad there are so many of us out there…

Do you think that Sierra will sell the rights to Kings Quest since they are not doing much with the series? Maybe open it to public domain? Todays video games seem to be linked to a movie or TV cartoon character in order to do well. There are ofcourse the war and sports video games. At my age and place in life, I don’t see where I found the time to play all of those games.

It is nice to know that Ken and Roberta Willams are still together after all of these years. That is the true Kings Quest story. How did they meet?

Nice nice! On dialup though, so I won’t see this until tomorrow. I promise to give feedback though, and to also promote this in the SQ community. Or better yet, send me an email at agillett@(I hate spam)ihug.com.au [remove the brackets of course] and we’ll work something out.

    Here is Roberta’s response:

Rosella does not marry Edgar at the end of KQ7. She was going to go on another ‘adventure’ at another time. I do not know if Rosella was ever going to marry Edgar or not. When a story is written, very often the characters ‘write themselves.’ Until the story is written, oftentimes, I don’t exactly know how the story will end. The story of Rosella and Edgar marrying has never been written. Who knows…maybe, someday, someone will write that story.

    Roberta
