ParticipantI don’t know of sites with high quality scans. There are a few other sites out there with box images, but probably not as large as you want, or they too have put their site name on the scan. What are you looking for scans for?
And as Brad said, stay tuned! Stuff definitely is in preparation!

“… (by maxorec@yahoo.com )Also, I was curious if the InterAction scanning project would include the catalogs that came in Sierra boxes, especially the slip cover boxes in the late 80s and early 90s. Those were like the InterAction magazines of the day before there was any InterAction magazine and I’d like to see them preserved.
…”Currently the Interaction Magazine Scanning project does not include the catalogs. Some have them have been scanned already though on a separate project, and will be released at future date. There are many preparations being made to preserve all aspects of the “old” Sierra, stay tuned!

ParticipantThe funniest thing about the Da Vinci Code is that it offers nothing new. The ideas it extrapolates are genuinely old hat. Still, it’s a huge commercial success. Clearly someone just had to write these things down in a format (in this case, modern pulp fiction) that is accessible to a large public audience.
But yeah, I’d love to see another GK. Perhaps another developer (Revolution?) could acquire the rights and hire Jane Jensen to write the game for them . . . ?

ParticipantKeep in mind that AGD’s games are not canon, i.e. they have no connection to the official KQ games aside from being exercises in riding someone else’s coattails to success. Roberta Williams, nor any other member of the official KQ creative team, had anything to do with these releases. So you can safely ignore their additions to the KQ mythos.

ParticipantGK is my favorite series of all time along with King’s Quest. For mature subjects, it blows away everything else. For me, 3 was by far the best. The entire interface and gameplay is simply genius, the story is pretty much unsurpassable in my opinion (I can’t imagine how a GK4 could have topped it, though I’d like to see:), and the puzzles and information are just brilliant. All the games are great, but GK3 just went well above and beyond in terms of how plastered to the screen I was and how deep the story was (truly genius the way it connected real-life mysteries and legends, and it preceeded DaVinci Code mind you) and how well paced and fun the game is. I’d love to see a graphical update of it to a more modern level, wouldn’t that be incredible? It’s THE perfect game, in my opinion.
Seriously, screw Sierra for ditching the best games we’ve ever seen. And screw LucasArts for the same reason, I can’t believe how they’ve turned their backs COMPLETELY. I mean, GK was a highly successful series, I just don’t get why they ditch these forever but still hold on to the rights.

ParticipantTruly awesome game. I remember just being blown away by it as a kid, played it a billion times.
Man I wish Sierra stayed on that track with the Dynamix games and the rest.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantI loved that game. One of my favorites from back then. What the hell happened to Dynamix, there were some awesome games.

ParticipantI don’t really think so. Hagatha was merely jealous of Valanice’s beauty, and Lolote was more interested in conquering the fairies than she was in doing any harm to Rosella. I think in the KQ5 manual they actually DID label Mordack as a member of the black cloak, as did Al-Hazred when writing that letter to this dark society. One really wonders what they had against the crown of Daventry, or short of that, why they wanted to take over all these kingdoms.

ParticipantA while back I finished playing AGD interactive’s version of King’s Quest 2: Romancing the throne. They added a lot of content not in the original, including =SPOILER ALERT= scenes where an elder Graham mkes Connor the King of Daventry and an evil servant of Graham placing a curse which resulted in “None of his children inheriting the throne.” =END SPOILER ALERT=
I thought these scenes were a poignant addition to AGD’s account of the events in “Romancing the Throne,” but I can’t help but wonder whether or not it was accurate. I thought that Rosella was to inherit the throne in spite of being wed to Edgar, who is heir to the throne of Oberon and Titania. What really happened to Daventry at the end of the King’s Quest games?

ParticipantYep, still playing it from time to time. I assume you bought Lords of the Realm 3 in the mean while? I believe that was the last game ever designed by Impressions. One of the main programmers of Impressions moved on though and created Children of the Nile (a sequel to Pharaoh you might say).
Anyways, i far more enjoyed Lords of the Realm 2 than LOTR3 honestly even though the graphics of LOTR3 are evidently far better. The gameplay is totally different. No more cows! Darn… and i soooo enjoyed breeding those creatures… :/
Just messing. Serious though, LOTR2 was far more succesful than LOTR3. I think i speak for the majority here. LOTR3 was already available at budget price shortly after its release.

ParticipantInteresting to see Shivers is still “alive”. Well… despite the fact that the last post was nearly a year ago and that the link to the site of Shivers 3 leads me directly to http://www.cjb.net.
So what’s going on with Shivers 3? My little toe is telling me the entire idea went bust somewhere.

ParticipantHi. The CD versions of Leisure Suit Larry 5 and Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA Remake were just the floppy disk versions slapped on a CD-Rom. The only Al Lowe games that got multimedia updates from their floppy versions were Larry 6 and Freddy Pharkas.

ParticipantWell as the site says the cost of the collection is considerably cheap to what it might actually sell for piece by piece. A Sierra collection would still be huge but it would be comparatively smaller and more manageable, so any collector selling such a collection would likely seek closer to selling value for each item.
I have a stack of old computers in my room waiting for me to take them apart and put them into working order for running Sierra games 🙂 My parents see the stack and do think I’m insane 🙂
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantWow, that is truly unbelievable. Any guess how much a similar complete Sierra-only collection would be worth? Imagine having a complete collection of boxes, materials, etc. and then a few pre-pentium computers with versions of all the software installed for playing… I think it’d be awesome, but wonder what guests to the house would think… probably think I’m insane!

ParticipantNice hat, by the way and Go Gators.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantThanks! By the way, I already managed to run the game properly without any need to right-click and select the Property.
Again thanks for all the help!Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantIn Expoler right-click on file ‘sierraw.exe’. Select ‘Properties’ and select ‘Compatibility tab’.

ParticipantSend an email to Kimmie. Her email is:
kimmie1979@mail.comShe’s a KQ moderator on the Sierra boards and will help you out with a manual. Hope that helps!

ParticipantYou might be better off running KQ6 on an emulation layer instead of tweaking it to work with Windows. Check out DOSBOX:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net
If you’ve got any other old school DOS games, bust them out. I’ve had quite a bit of success playing stuff that is impossible to run under anything besides a native DOS system and an original Soundblaster card. It’s even got a modem over TCP/IP emulation. I was able to play Populous with a friend of mine over the ‘Net using this feature.

ParticipantI would look to see if anyone else on ebay has a manual to sell. or resell your CD and buy another set that you know has the manual included.

ParticipantI’ve seen those EA-stickers in some Sierra-games before (might have been King’s Quests too).
>It’s possible that as these are the EA distributed versions,
>the boxes don’t have the flap coversI encounter new Sierra variations (mainly old stuff, which I research
the most) almost every other week but even so I find that very unlikely.
(There have been some very odd discoveries though, so you never should
say anything with 100% certainity.)Those King’s Quests just happen to be in shrinkwrap; either
in original by Sierra, or wrap by: EA/shop that had these/someone else.I don’t know whether they shrinkwrapped only some games at Sierra’s factory in ~ 1982-1986.
I have some sealed SierraVision (1982-83), Sierra On-Line Inc. (1982-84) -games
and f.ex. a sealed KQ3 (1986) too (not EA-releases).
The game boxes themselves look totally new. Some shrinks look original quality wrappings,
but some on the other hand are obvious rewraps. So there’s still the possibility even the better wraps were done in
the shop they were first delivered to, and they did a fine job.
(That’d be almost the same as a factory seal, as the
wear from delivery from factory to shop would be minimal.)
Some were shrinked later, maybe even recently, and the boxes
were very lucky to catch virtually no shelf wear.On-Line Systems and some other early stuff were obviously shrinked,
as the contents would’ve fallen off otherwise :).Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantYup, you’re right Tom. The Sierra mags had various regular contests over time, and that was one of them.

ParticipantQuote:
“… If you use the batch file, do not use use XP’s own 256 color setting on the compatibility tab. …”Sorry, but what does ‘compatibility tab’ mean? Is it an option to choose in the ‘installing’ KQ7 program?
I too am installing KQ7 on a WinXP machine, and thanks for your suggestions.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantI’m pretty sure InterAction had a “Sierra Sightings” contest every issue or something like that, where you’d send in a sierra sighting and they’d send you a free game if yours was chosen. (I remember the caption/rules reading: “Oh, and by the way, the company was named AFTER the Sierra mountains, not the other way around, sorry.” 🙂
Tom.
