Because Vivendi would definitely have the advertisement on their site somewhere, or at least in the older Sierra section. Plus, other gaming sites like GameStop and EBgames would most likely have it advertised too. It just seems a little fishy that we’re hearing it from Amazon first instead of Vivendi *if* they really are re-releasing them.

i dont think its really the games. if they were to release these old games again in a time were the average computer runs windows xp or 2000, it would be a support nightmare for them. most people are not like us and wont be willing to have to use emulators and obscure unlicensed patches to run a game that they just bought as “brand new”. can you imagine how many calls, emails, and returns they would get within the first week of release alone?

the only way i see it as possible is if they actually had somebody update or completely rewrite the AGI and SCI engines to run without error on modern windows machines, and also fixed the timer bugs in each individual game. i think that would cost them too much considering these games would not be top sellers. i guess its possible though. if this is the case i will be one of the first to purchase it, but im not too optimistic. lets hope i guess.

    > If Vivendi were to sell them, they certainly wouldn’t do it on Amazon.

Why not? Most commercial software is sold through Amazon.

These are listed in the software section with WinXP as the platform and don’t have ISBN numbers (books would), so I kind of doubt these are listings for books.

Excited to find out more about this…

You know when I download Kq it asks me if i want to play from cd or install in hard drive. First time I installed it I did it to hard drive. I reinstalled it to play from cd and now during the game, the people don’t talk but it brings up their picture box like they are going to say something. But I play the game with vdm sound program. So I am guessing it’s dos. I really don’t know. So I guess send me 1 set of intstructions and if that doesn’t work I will bother you with some more! Thanks so much!

    3. In Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio, what do you have under ‘MIDI music playback’?…”
    1. I select BASE.
    2. Sound card? I don’t know… the installation never asks me about sound card. All it asks me is base or extended. I have a Gateway PC, running windows XP.
    3. For MIDI playback, it says “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth”

Well, see, after LotR, I got into fandom, which led me to David Wenham fandom, and yeah. Since I’ve been in this fandom, I learned about seachange, etc, but of course, being in the US I’ve never been able to get any of his DVDs except the Bank, and I see *cough* BTS but I’m just not that sort of person LOL! Anyhoo, I’m glad he’s well-known and respected in his homeland. I really wish he’d come here and *change* Hollywood, and make it a more valuable place. Not sell out, but just… um… contribute beneficially. ^_^

I was always dissapointed by the last 2 Dr. Brain games (discounting the later later ones altogether).

That said, I assume it’s another audio buffer error! Since the timer patches, this seems to be the only error left unsolved.

I don’t know which file DB3 uses, but a file called ‘resource.win’ or ‘sierra.ini’ or something created by installation should exist. Could someone post their contents of it (right-click, open with Notepad) and paste here?

    Amanda:

Obviously, your speech isn’t working. It’s your settings. But are you using DOS or Windows to run the game? The solution I give depends on which version.

I also have another little question: In the instructions, when it says to change the line “movieplayer = 1” to “movieplayer = 0” in the sierra.ini notepad file, I had a different line there instead! I originally had

    audpath=D:audio=D:sync=D:
    INSTEAD OF

    audpath=D:audio=D:movieplayer=1

… So I decided to change “sync=D:” to “sync=.” with the other lines.

The game works fine, but is this small different in my file contributing to the lack of music and sound???

    Help would be appreciated!!…”

    I’m Australian, for irony’s sake 🙂

David Wenham’s great. One of the true Aussie actors, hasn’t sold out in Hollywood, usually is in great stuff. Assuming you live outside Australia, I don’t suppose you ever saw a TV show called SeaChange? That was probably Wenham at his peak.
Interesting to see someone who likes Australians, anyway. I suppose it’s a lot better than ‘Where’s Australia?’ which is most Sierra fans 😉

I had a King’s Quest Compilation but it was a paper back book not a video game. It was a little more than a 1/4 inch thick. I don’t know if Sierra created the cheat book or if it was an unofficial cheat book.
Looking on ebay maybe it was King’s Quest Companion that I had.

Yeah, the moderators on the Sierra boards are looking into it. If Vivendi were to sell them, they certainly wouldn’t do it on Amazon. It’s probably somone selling their personal version. Although it would be nice!

The TSA website was in progress in various forms, but work eventually stopped when we decided that the way to really do the site properly (in order to include absolutely EVERYTHING Sierra-related) was to build it on a database. We have a programmer who is working on this, though I do not have a status update.

We were also in the process of putting together a simple developer’s web site, although as I have been personally very busy, it hasn’t launched, though it is basically done.

I have been continuing to work with Sierra archival material and expect our pace of progress and updates to quicken up in September.

I am running Dr. Brain 3 on Windows 98 and it keeps crashing when I finish a section and try to return back to the brain game selection screen. I even have it were I have to shut the computer power off because it freezes the computer or loops through the end task dialoge over and over. Any help please? By the way, the game is still great fun though. 🙂

There was construction going on in the area and not all the buildings had numbers, so I didnt know which one was the exact building, but I was in the general area.
Construction. This could be 313, I have no idea
This building is probably either 313, or right next to it
    Marie Laveaus Tomb
One good thing about Mardi Gras, I was the only one there to see the historical sights, hence the empty square.

Your best bet is to keep an eye on Ebay. That’s how I got a KQ6 Lithograph, and a KQ4 Manual and KQ Guide signed by Roberta Williams. This site sells copies of the KQ7 poster though: http://www.artistsuk.co.uk/acatalog/ARTISTS_UK__MISS_ELAINE_E__HOUSE__69.html

i could be wrong about this, but i seem to remember that the actual code for the multiplayer part was released to the public with hopes that someone would continue the project. i know that sounds weird for a company like sierra, but im pretty sure they did it or were planning to. does anyone else remember this, or am i just imagining it?

i would really like to get a hold of the source if thats true. i would love to continue the work on the multiplayer part, it would be an honor. i would also like a demo if it was in there, not that the server would be up though.

Quest for Glory 5 was originally going to have a multiplayer component. Though scrapped from the final release, I believe there’s a demo available with the multiplayer mode still intact.

DOSBox is the best. I played it all the way through with no glitches using DOSBox. The website isn’t THAT confusing.

You can go here for the Windows installer. I would recommend it for most games.

Sierra released an official MPC CD version of the game shortly after the normal diskette version. And I have to agree that EcoQuest really is an excellent little game! I would love to have seen a third one.

And I realise this is slightly off-topic, but I’m glad to see you mention Access Software’s Mean Streets. That, in my opinion, is one of the unsung greats of adventure games. It’s only because of the vastly inferior sequels that more people do not recognise it as such.
