Yeah I pre-ordered on Amazon and got the 1-2 weeks thing. I wonder what the deal is! Maybe VU only made 100 of them and were overwhelmed… They make their return to the old series by giving us the shaft right out of the gate. Oh well.

You may find some images here. This site seems based off of an old Phantasmagoria site that used to be around that had tons of stuff. I can’t find that original site, but here’s this other one:

I’m anxious to see these as well. I ordered from Amazon, but I live in Canada and these are only going to the US right now, so I had to have them sent to a friend, and then wait for him to re-direct them to me. I’m sure as soon as someone gets them they’ll post about it. People on other adventure-related message boards are talking about this and waiting for them as well.

I checked out the web site at home.  It’s cool to see all the games out there!  There is one Card game I had that I cannot find.  The game had Crazy 8, Old Maid and maybe Cribage and more.  It had Sierra characters like Willy Bemish (sp), Graham, Laura Bow, Dr. Brain  and others.  It also had ‘Classic Characters’.  A quote from one classic character is: ‘Crazy? Who’s Crazy?’  There was an Eskimo, French Lady, the crazy guy and others.  Does anyone know the full name of this game and if it is a special eddition.

Of course there is a BlackBird in QFG 1 !
To discover it, you should act like a ‘good’ thief, break into people’s houses at night, pick the locks of drawers & move pictures to find safes !

    Good luck!

Thank You, I will have to check it out at home.  Work has a filter for anything with the word ‘game’ in it.  I’m glad I can get to this site through ‘sierrafan’.

So what’s the scoop on these? Anybody order any copies? Anyone even have a clue as to what the box art looks like?

I noticed on Amazon.Com that King’s Quest is #58 on the Computers &
Video Games sales rank. (Mind you, this includes hardware AND software
for ALL platforms including the consoles) So this is really
interesting. Oh and in case anyone was wondering, Space Quest follows
next, then Leisure Suit Larry and finally Police Quest (in that order
    of rank).

It bugs me that they ship in 1-2 WEEKS though.

    Tom.

Well you know how it is…1% of a program is telling the computer what to do, and 99% is patch jobs telling it what not to.  I find the easiest system to maintain is one with no users on it.  They are such whiners.

My feeling is that the sessions aren’t timing out sooner than you have defined;  The session timeout should be whatever your global.asa file says it is.  If you’ve set it for 40 minutes, that means I can sit here for 40 minutes while typing this message and not run into any submit problems. Any more than that, and it’s bye bye session.  The link I sent you is a script that bounces traffic between the server and and idle web browser at an interval you define, which resets the session timer.   This means you could set the global session timeout to be much, much less while laggards like me can spend eternity figuring out what to type.

    Chris:

Thanks … something is timing out the session variables faster than I’d like. I’m not sure what. I’ll check out the link you gave.

For now, if you are typing something long — type it first in Word (or, notepad) and copy/paste it into  a message.

Why is nothing ever easy when a computer is involved?

So it was the session expiring?  Makes sense…Sometimes I have a habit of starting a post, putting it to the background, and finishing it later.  If I may make a suggestion, you might want to look at some sort of session keepalive algorithm.  Throwing more time at the global timout variable masks the problem, but doesn’t get rid of it.  For instance, I started this post about 5 hours ago and got busy doing something else.  When I press Submit I’m probably going to get whacked by the session timeout.  Must remember to copy and paste…Anyway, I searched the ‘Net for some code that could help you do this.  Check out Session Defibrillator – it might fit the bill:

I own the game and I think I can take the screen shots that you’re wanting. But I haven’t the time right now, but I should have it soon. What I want you to do is send me an email at rick@splashofmind.com so I’ll have a visual reminder if you want. Once I find the time (probably in a week or so) I will get you those screens.

The system was set to ‘time out’ after 20 minutes.  I lengthened this to 40 minutes.

Let me know if this fixes the problem.

I have played this game over and over again thoughout the years and loved it (dispite the fact that it scared me out of my wits) yet now I have misplaced the game and yet though i have a fair idea where it is i really cant be bothered searching for it if it isn’t in the place I left it. However, even if i didn’t misplace the game I don’t really want to play the game just to get the one or two pictures that I need and this is where I am hoping someone can come to my aid and help me.

*I am wanting a full view of the house (front and back)
*A full view of the room you walk into just when you come in through the front door
*A pic of a few rooms of the house (kitchen, dining room etc)
*A pic or two of the back yard.

The pic that i really mostly want though is the full view pic of the back and front of the house if possible and the one of the room when you enter the house via the front door.

I have, ages ago, seen these pictures online yet now I cant remember the site I saw them on since its been so long since I last saw them. I was hoping someone could please help me in obtaining these pictures as I need them for a project I am working on. Though upon saying that, I will, of course, give all credit to the people who made the game and what not but right now i just am in dire need of those pictures that I cant, for the life of me, find them.

    Chris:

Thanks for letting me know. As usual, the new BBS is ‘two steps forward, one step back’. You may have noticed that it got a little better today, and you can expect that it will get a little better tomorrow.

It’s a lot of new code, and we’re working the bugs out one by one.

Actually .. my focus for the next few days is on performance. We need to do a little bit more ‘tweaking’ and then we’ll focus on the browser compatibility issues.

Keep posting anything you notice here. Getting this right is at the top of the priority list!

The trailer the KQ9 team released is probably what gave Vivendi the
ammo they needed to fire off the C&D.  It really is
unfortunate since it’s my understanding that the game was only weeks
away from being completed.  IMHO, this certainly serves as a
warning to fan game developers to stay under radar and not draw too
much attention to your project until the game is completed and
released.  At least that way, in the event of a C&D, the cat
will already be out of the bag.  As it stands right now the KQ9
team is faced with either scrapping all the work they’ve done over who
knows how many years, or removing any reference to Vivendi’s copyrights
and then releasing it.   All they’d really have to do is
change the names and likenesses and they should be in OK
territory.  The important thing to remember about the KQ9 project
is that the story and graphics are all original.  KQ fans would
certainly be able to see through character name changes.

Well, I always prefer a clean a crack as possible, even if there are leftovers from the protection screen. Maybe you can just kill the randomization in LOGIC 125, forcing the protection to ask the same question every time, thus not skipping any scripts. Whatever you decide to do, let me know when you’re finish so I can test it.
In the meantime, perhaps you can answer these few questions that bugged me for years:

In my copy of KQ2 v1.1H, the score is displayed in gibberish. I know that’s because some %d got replaced by %s, but I want to know if that’s how the game was sold in stores or if that’s a bug that only present in some pirated copies. You see, I prefer my copies as close to the original as possible, bugs included.

And on another subject – until recently, I didn’t know about KQ1 v1.0U, I only thought that the booter version and v2.0F existed. Now I saw it on your list, and I just want to know what exactly is this version. I presume it’s a DOS version, so how does it differ from v2.0F?

One last thing – how come PQ1 and Man Hunter SF initial vresion numbers were 2.0A and 3.02 respectively? It doesn’t make sense (I know that there were more weird initial version numbers, but I chose those two as an example). By the way, do you want KQ4 v1.006.003? I didn’t see it on your list, and I have a copy of it.

Incidentally, I saw other cracks on your webpage. Did you make those too? And what are the Debug scripts/patches ZIP files? Are those the files necessary to enter debug mode on these games?

Finally, I want to thank you for the questions file. I hope it’ll be put to good use, but seeing as there are 87 questions, and I only have about 30 answers, I doubt that there’ll be someone who cares about it enough to answer 50+ questions… Well, a clean crack will have to do then  🙂

It might work to get away from the collumns and rows in the message board and go with something similar to Ancestry.com.  Each reply to a thread is placed under the message it is responding to with a tab and RE:.  There can be several replies to the same message.  This would use Cascading Sheet Styles and Nodes.  Example:

    Laura Bow is great
            RE: My favorite scene is
RE: I like the part when
RE: Well I like this part
Plus or minus buttons could be added to expand to see the actual message.

‘So, what do you all think? Do they have any motivation behind this?’

VU will soon be rereleasing many of the Quest collections (Police Quest, Kings quest, Space quest, etc…) with XP compatability, beyond that nobody know of any other motivation they might have as far as thier own profits are concerned. Like others have said, KQIX’s recent release of their trailer may have triggered the C&D. Rest assured this was not random by any means, this was done at a time that VU felt it necessary for whatever reason

Very dissapointed in Vivendi, I and many, many others plan to boycott them until they change their position on this.
