ParticipantI seem to recall having that version and, being a mere 9 years old and not a native English speaker, not understanding what they meant.
My current copies all have ‘light speed’, though I haven’t checked the one for which I only have the 5.25′ disks.

Participantthanks julie, but there message board system seems to be broken. can anyone else get on it over there? it always gives me 404 messages when i click on topics or try to make new ones.
doesn’t anyone know the answer. i think it’s not in the game.

ParticipantYep,thats the problem with’wives’they soon turn into your MOTHER!

ParticipantI gave into pressure and took the game back. I swapped it out for Syberia which I have heard good things about. From the little I played, Syberia is an amazing game. The graphics are the best I have ever seen. The music could have been brought up a notch but not bad. I still like the control of Tomb Raiders (even though it is hard to learn at first). I can’t wait to get further into the game!

ParticipantThe left exposure looks like a wax doll.

ParticipantThat’s great news. As far as all the Sierra re-releasing goes, I’ve been looking forward to this the most!
Probably the most successfull ‘propaganda-rag’ any business has released ever. The only one that comes close is Nintendo Power, & you don’t see an NP archive project anywhere!!

ParticipantHey guys, another update. We’ve had several people mention that they
are unable to find the time to write letters to Vivendi. The SaveKQIX
team has come up with a way to help each of you out. By going to
http://www.savekqix.org, and clicking on ‘how you can help,’ there is a link
that will directly take you to your email, as well as coming up with
the text into the body of the email. In other words, it will take all
of 10 seconds for you to send this. Thanks for all your participation!

ParticipantLooks like they make you install some kind of custom app, and the games run through the app? Seems like they have legally acquired the rights to all the games. Interesting.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure I have at least one original boxed copy of Gold Rush, and I also have the new version from Software Farm. Instead of me sorting through this whole thread, if there’s any questions you guys want to ask again, I’ll do my best to answer them.

ParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised Joe if some of your suspicions were correct.
Tom, Amazon doesn’t charge your credit card until your stuff ships, so no one who ordered and decides to cancel needs a refund. I cancelled my order. I would have kept it on as I just wanted to change the quantities I ordered (I had ordered some extra as gifts assuming they would be released when indicated), but Amazon didn’t want to let me change the quantities, so I just cancelled my order.

ParticipantGood news Greg!
The Interaction project is nearing completion. All of the magazines have now been scanned, and all but a few have been retouched and color corrected. 4,000 pages takes awhile! It has been a very labor intense project, but I am positive that the Sierra community will respect the time that it has taken once they see the quality of the product that is going to be released in the near future.
Thanks for hanging in there..

ParticipantOn Amazon, you can cancel your orders if you pre-ordered. My pre-order
still says shipping by Nov 1. But I would guess that your correct on
the real release date. What a joke this is. I am guessing they put that out as a ‘lets see if
there is interest.’ Now they have to actually compile the games again.
Maybe I am wrong. But it is too fishy as to why they haven’t said
something about the releases publically. Then again maybe they are just doing this to give their copyrights more
protection as they go after fans games, abandonware sites, etc. Let’s
not forget Sierra is now owned by a member of both the MPAA and RIAA.
Can’t get worse then that.Makes me long for the good ‘ole days of Sierra.

ParticipantOH NO!!! I just saw this today on the Amazon site and just couldn’t believe it:
King’s Quest Compilation, et al.
Availability:
This item will be released on January 30, 2006. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives.I didn’t pre-order them, but I wonder if those that did are entitled to a refund? Or if they’ll EVER be released?
So much for getting them for the holidays, too. 🙁
Tom.

ParticipantChristian,
my German CD version of PQ4 has English voice actors with German subtitles. It don’t seems they can be turned off.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantJT, there’s people on the QfG Sierra boards that know an unbelievable amount of QfG stuff. Go here:
Unknown,Unknown
Participantnow that one i have seen. i even tried to take it, but of course you cant. im starting to think its not an item you can obtain in QG1. anyone else have any ideas?

ParticipantHey everyone,
I wanted to let everyone know that myself and many
other King’s Quest fans have joined together and started an organization to try to save KQIX.
Our website address is: http://www.savekqix.org
We feel very strongly that our best bet to save the
game
is through a letter writing campaign. If you care about KQIX and want
to see it released, I strongly urge you to take 10 minutes and write a
letter to Vivendi Universal Games. Let them know how much you were
looking forward to the game.I know some of you may have already
sent emails. That’s great, but we still need you to send a physical
letter via the good ol’ postal service. A physical letter will have so
much more of an impact than an email. The emails are probably never
seen by anyone except a couple of low level people who’s job it is to
check those emailaccounts. It’s easy to dismiss thousands of
emails. But it’s hard to ignore thousands of actual letters. Physical
letters will have more of a visual impact. Think of how those Vivendi
executives will feel when the see those stack and stacks of letters!I
know some of you may have also signed the petition that has been
circulating. We think the petition IS a great idea, but really believe
that a personally written letter from each one of you, rather than thesame
petition, will be EVEN more effective. In fact, the person that
created the petition is a major part of our organization. Oh, and
don’t worry; if you’ve already signed the petition, it WILL be sent toVivendi. However, we ask that you still write a letter to them.
Visit our webpage for the mailing address to VU Games. Stop by the
forums
and say hello. Let’s make it known that there are a lot of adventure
game fans out here that want to see the game released. We need EACH
AND EVERY ONE OF YOU in order to be successful. Please, take 10 minutes out of your day to write that letter. It’s the
best chance we have to save KQIX!
Take care,
Cat

ParticipantI remember it not being able to be stolen. It’s in the treasure
room when you break into the brigand fortress and pour the potion on
Elsa.Unknown,Unknown
Participantok, im just overlooking it. i CANT find it. i replayed it lots of times since you told me it was in there and i just cant see it. im not quite sure what you mean by ‘be a good thief’. i have looked in both desks and the safe in the sheriff’s house. what am i doing wrong? the only 2 places in the game to rob are the old lady’s house and the sheriff’s house, right?

ParticipantMy two buckazoids:
Is VU in their rights to force KQ9’s demise? Yes. Is it wise? No.
Boeing is pursuing something very similar in the model kit industry. They argue that a model kit of a 747 is a violation of their intellectual property rights because the manufacturers do not pay royalties. This is an accurate claim.
But what is not generally known is that if model makers were forced to pay license fees, most would fold. No one would buy their kits. Hence, less $ for Boeing.
Thirty years ago, a kit of an F-18 was considered free advertising. Indeed, in the past, wiser souls have allowed ‘free loaders’ on the grounds that in the end, the original copyright holder reaps teh most benefit. And usually, they do.
I doubt VU’s action was malicious. They are re-releasing KQ, and that probably had something to do with it. It’s like when Paramount issues dozens of C&Ds right before releasing a new STAR TREK film; it’s to curb the illegal (and sometimes, fan-based) reproductions of ST ships and the like.
Unfortunately, the usual result of this corporate action is to make people upset. Pheonix was making NO money on this project. I was really looking forward to KQ9. All VU has done is to disappoint me. I will not buy their new compilations. Why would I want to? I can find the games on E-bay. I’d rather have the original editions and therefore something more valuable than VU’s half-hearted appeal to my nostalgia.
As for VU taking the KQ9 project under its wing, I doubt that will ever happen. And if it did, I doubt KQ9 would be the game it was meant to be.
Judging from the other boards I’ve read, I’m not the only one to feel burned. This will cost them other customers. And in the end, the profit they sought so hard to protect.

ParticipantAs of yesterday, VU (Can’t refer to them as Sierra anymore, doesn’t
seem right) hasn’t even announced the releases on their website. Nor
have they even claimed that there is/isnot going to be a actual release
of the games. I wouldn’t be suprised if they never come, or if they are
following the order numbers and now working to fix the games for todays
PC’s. I just think it is BS they won’t release ANY details. -
