ParticipantDid I imagine seeing something somewhere a while ago about plans for Quest for Glory VI if it ever came out would have different playable races to choose from, like the katta and it would take place in Japan or have an oriental setting?

ParticipantPretty cool Emily! Nice graphics and such, some fun stuff from what I saw – I didn’t play very far. The character speaking font is funky but hard on the eyes, and the player character moves way too damn slow without a speed control! I’m sorry but honestly, with the little time I have, if a game doesn’t include some of the simple things like a speed control I just won’t play it.
LOL and those walkable areas… 🙂
Still, very nice.

ParticipantTom, I say go man! Sadly I have no website making skills to offer you, but nonetheless I encourage you to keep your fire burning, every little bit of effort such as yours helps keep the dream alive.
The ‘dream’ is that one day Sierra, in some incarnation, will return.
If I ever win the lottery, Sierra will be back. I’ll hire Scott Murphy and all those great creators back, will buy the Oakhurst building back.
I don’t even care if the games made a profit. I’d be doing this for my own personal kicks so HAAZAAA!!! 🙂

ParticipantI agree wholeheartedly with this.
I have been a long-time fan of, both the Leisure Suit Larry series and Al Lowe. At a (too) young age, I created my first web-site. It was called ‘Tom’s World O’ Larry;’ I believe it was in 1994. I had no idea what I was doing. In 1997, I was offered hosting space with AdventureGamer.com (before they were baught out). Still being an amature gamer, and designer, I then created ‘The Leisure Suit Larry Channel.’ The name doesn’t really make sense. I had created the name around ‘interactive channel’ websites that were released around IE4 launch, but my skills lacked.
Reason why I am saying this? I have noticed that there is a lack of fan sites for this anymore. Yesterday, I started creating a new site. I want to give back to the community, like I did many years ago. Depending on how much help I get for this, expect it to be launched in several weeks.

Participantmy guess is that the sound file is corrupt just because of whatever reason (might have worked fine on your old computer).
anyway, if you wanted to have a copy of the full song, you can download it here (as well as other Sierra soundtrack songs!) http://www.queststudios.com/quest/kq6cd/kq6cd2.html It’s at the bottom of the page.

ParticipantWell, I wanted to update again by Christmas as a little present to everyone, and it looks like I JUST squeaked by. Anyhoo, I hope everyone enjoys it, and I look forward to your comments. This time around, turned the tension up a little bit, added some new dark fates, and we might just finally meet Lolotte… sort of.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantI hope this discussion continues and a game is produced even if it takes three years or more. My life is very busy working 40 hrs a week and the family needing me and the computer in the evenings. If a game was made in the true style and heart of the old Sierra games with no legal copywrite problems, I could see making the effort to stay up late and work hard on this game worth while. I guess that is why I have been hanging around this site for such a long time. Waiting for the next game.
Games like those Sierra created took one away from the day to day life. Ken, for me, has created another game. I enjoy listening to the wonderful travels he and his wife take around the world, like their trip to Coatia. I like my day to day life but it gets to a point where it is like an old record that skips and plays the same sound over and over.
I would like to be able to create my own games instead of buying the trash they are selling in these new games. Todays games are more like watching a movie. They don’t bring you into the game.
Anyway…back to the grind stone.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantI moved it here:

ParticipantXP makes this VERY easy. Just right click on the shortcut for Torin’s Passage and choose ‘Properties’. Go to the Compatibility tab. Select ‘Run in 256 colors’ and ‘Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. Your screen resolution and color depth will change automatically for you, when ever you start the game and revert back when you exit the game.
You can also play the DOS version of the game in DOSBox.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantLife gets harder with Windows XP. On my computer, and I don’t know if it is the same on yours, ‘right mouse click’ on the ‘desktop’. You should get a list. Click on ‘properties’. This should bring up your display settings. There is other ways to get to your display settings but we will save that for another day. There are several ‘tabs’ at the top of the Display settings window. Click on ‘Settings’. Note in Windows XP the 256 color setting has been hidden under the ‘Advanced’ Settings button. I hope you can see that button. Click on the Advanced button. Under one of the tabs like Adapter there is a button that says ‘list all modes’. Find one that says 256 colors and pick that. And then say apply. This will move your icons around, change your windows look and hopefuly not screw up your computer. : ) You can repeat the above but instead of going to advanced you can just pick 32 bit true color and return to previous settings. That said make sure you write down your previous settings. I hope this helps and have fun.

ParticipantChampionship Boxing is a moderately-rare Sierra release. It is packaged in a box similar to Stunt Flyer and Wrath of Denethenor. In good condition, it fetches a healty price around the community. Depending on several factors (and who is wanting to buy the game) I have seen it sell from around $30 to over $100 for a sealed copy. It sounds like you have a complete release by your description, what condition is the box and materials in?Also what platform is it for?
I have two copies of this game. One sealed release in mint condition for Com 64/128, and an open version for IBM, with everything you list minus the warranty card. The opened versions box is a little ragged at the opening, but otherwise fine. Unless the warranty card is something radically different from the ones that Sierra normally included, we should be fine on having meterial here at my place to scan for the continuing archive project. Would you mind posting a scan or picture of the warranty card? Thanks!
Let me know if you have any more related questions about CB, or any other older game.

ParticipantI was never one to pay too much attention to Sierra’s forays into non-adventures. However, Brad, who is one of our SierraGamers historians doing the archival work here with us, should be able to let you know what the value of that product is, and if we need material from that release for our big picture archival activities.

ParticipantJust skip the system test and install the game.

ParticipantToss them out! I can’t believe you would even suggest that I would do such a thing. Well actually I have thrown away, King’s Quest II, King’s Quest III, King’s Quest IV, King’s Quest V, King’s Quest VI, Stellar 7, Nova 9, Space Quest I or II?, Laura Bow 2, Roberta Williams Anthology, and Quest For Glory ?? Sierra Games. Non-Sierra games were: Mean Street, Test Drive 3, National Lampoon Chest Master or Champion? and maybe more. That is only the PC games. I had SNES and the Playstation with many more games at one time.
Why??????
Focus more on college, would not work on my new computer to my knowledge at the time, may be objectable to my Christian wife or brother who I gave the computer to…Why????Anyways, I would like to hang on to it if it is important. I would also like to see that those like Brandon and Vintage-Sierra who keep the history of Sierra alive need the information, box shots, scans… I don’t expect my children to open up the old games and think much of it as something to pass on to future generations.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantIf you are just going to toss them out, I will take them.

ParticipantI have this game box, 5 1/4 disk, warranty registration, program guide, how to play manual, Boxing clinic manual, and History of Boxing manual. I am more of an Adventure fan than sports fan. Is this worth hanging on to or is it worth much?
I also have a ‘One-on-One’ basketball game with Larry Bird on a 5 1/4 disk. Is that worth much?

‘Like what? I’m only interested in adventure games, by the way.’
I’m not sure of all the different games they made. There was a Laura Bow cd game, but I don’t know about it’s copy protection. I know there was a Willy Beamish game on cd, if you’re interested in Dynamix/Sierra games also (Dynamix also made a couple more I think but I don’t know the names.) I’m not sure about Gabriel Knight 1cd either.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantHarkey: ‘but it sounds to me like you already know which ones need them and which don’t.’
Could be, but I wasn’t sure if my list was correct or complete, so I asked.Alistair: ‘King’s Quest 6 (kept the disk version protection)
Quest for Glory 4 (kept the disk version protection)
Space Quest 6 (contentious ‘copy protection’)
Freddy Pharkas (kept disk version protection)’
Yes, that’s what I suspected. Wasn’t sure about QFG4 though, if it kept the floppy protection. So these 4 are the only ones?Harkey: ‘i wouldn’t really call the potion codes in quest for glory 4 a copy protection since they are not at all required to finish the game.’
Nevertheless, I count it, if it’s required in any way.Harkey: ‘and i think alistair is right, the list is complete except for some of non major series games.’
Like what? I’m only interested in adventure games, by the way.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantI think it’s very interesting as well (obviously). ‘Copy protection by accident’ seems to be the most accurate term. Now that’s unique!!
Unfortunately, SQ.Net does not clear it up.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantYeah, we’re hardcore. 😛Â

Participanti wouldn’t really call the potion codes in quest for glory 4 a copy protection since they are not at all required to finish the game. they are nice to have though if your a fighter, but not really even helpful for the other 2 classes, or at least not for me. i usually dont even bother getting them.
and the more i think about it, i think you are right that there isnt any in sq4cd. but like i said, i was just doing the list from memory.
and i think alistair is right, the list is complete except for some of non major series games.

ParticipantI just saw this movie- awesome! And like Brandon, I could hear the music in my head. 😀
I think I figured out why the movie is so bizarre (compared to ‘normal’ PC disk/CD versions)- it’s got to do with sound. Because the disk version has voices for the intro movie, as does the CD. Presumably the logistics of the Mac platform back then didn’t allow for the movie to either have sound, or to have music and sound, or something (I need someone who knows what they’re talking about to explain better!). So they cut sound out. Which also explains why his mother is absent in this version, since she only has conversational roles.
Anyway, I think anyone other than Emily would prefer the CD’s intro movie the best. 🙂 That Mac one is a cool find, but definitely sucky!
