For the superior Windows version of KQ6, you can install Windows 3x in the latest version of DOSBox, if you can find the install disks for Win3x. The DOS versions of almost all of the rest of the games can be run in DOSBox as is.

I’m sorry… but lemme reply my own post… I forgot about telling what I’ve done to fix the problem.

I changed the combatibility for each game and to 640 X 480 screen, and changed it to Winows 96. And I also changed the number of colors.

Do you have a link to Bruce Hack’s interview by chance?

My initial reactions to the 3D cutscenes and the voices were the same as yours.  Turns out that after the first chapter, there’s only one more 3D cutscene in the entire game.  The rest of the cutscenes use the comic book style, which I think works very well.  So I wouldn’t worry *too much* about that.

The voices did grow on me, but I can’t really say how long that took.  Once of the good things about this game is that it has a very well written story, complete with character development, and the voices of Al and the narrator are in some ways setting the player up for how the characters (narrator included) change later on in the game.

Well, I downloaded the demo and played it to the end. While the overall experience has certainly left me waiting for the entire game, there are some elements that didn’t feel right. That said, these elements have to do more with the ‘packaging’ rather than the gameplay, though.

For one thing, there’s the introduction. I’m really sorry to say this, as I’m sure a lot of work must have gone into making it, but as something intended to pull gamers in, it just doesn’t work. It’s overlong, it’s unfunny (the dialogue in it is nowhere near as good as in the rest of the game) and above all – and again, I realize a lot of working hours must have been spent here, still – it looks pretty ugly. For the first thing a gamer will see, I think the introduction leaves a pretty bad impression.

I also have to share the criticism expressed in other forums (such as Adventure Gamers’) about the voice-acting of both Al and the Narrator. They’re both very annoying. I got used to them towards the end of the demo (though I can’t say I’ve grown to like them), but that’s still a minus.

On the plus side, one I got through the initial stuff, you’ve done a really good job with everything else. In-game dialogues are strong, puzzles are good (I really liked the drink-mixing) and the closing scene, done in comic-book style, is great (far more effective than the 3D intro). As I said, I’m really looking forward to the complete game. We really need someone to pick up where Sierra left, and you guys seem to be on the right track.

All I meant was that the fans know the game has something to do with
King’s Quest, whether or not Vivendi’s letting you use their
    copyrighted name in the title.

If it doesn’t bother you guys (which it seems like it doesn’t), I’m not
sure why the original poster should be so upset about it.  😉

In any case, I’m looking forward to playing the game, whatever it’s called!

For those still unware, the project has been granted permission to continue.

The TSL Trailer as well as the Making of The Silver Lining video (both which were sent to VU several months ago) are now public and can be downloaded at: http://www.tsl-game.com/media/promos/trailer/

I agree with Johann.  We have always maintained that our game was the unofficial ninth.  Whether fans choose to accept it as official is purely their decision.  Even now with VU’s expressed legal permission, we are not the official ninth game in the series.

‘We all know it’s a continuation of the King’s Quest series.’

No, it is not.  And I reckon it’s quite ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

    Hello,

My name is Neil Rodrigues and I am the Assistant Web Director at The Silver Lining.  I was and still am completely involved with the directive staff, during the whole Vivendi incident.  We don’t know why VU decided to contact us after 4 years of development (maybe someone showed them our trailer?) but it is completely within their rights to defend their trademark.  In fact, legally they could lose their rights to it if they didn’t defend it.

We are extremely lucky that all they wanted us to change was the title, rather than the backstory, characters or anything else.  If they wanted us to massively reformat the game to remove all their intellectual property, chances are this game would never see the light of day.  However, I do not recommend any other fan group taking the same route we did.  We took a risk by creating the game without their permission, and just as they granted us permission, they could have just as easily decided to leave us permanently shut down or worse.

As the copyright holder, Vivendi has every right to prevent someone from using their trademarked name (King’s Quest).

I think it’s pretty incredible that they’re allowing the Silver Lining
project to continue.  What difference does a name make?  We
all know it’s a continuation of the King’s Quest series.  I’d much
rather play a game with a slightly changed title than no game at all.

Any Remake definitely needs John Ryes-Davies to be hired as the narrator…

I agree with you about the higher graphics, but after the awkward interface of Dreamfall, I’ll take point and click any day. Any ‘improvements’ to the interface have to make it more seamless or transparent, not merely different or done in some odd way, just because they can. It should not be something that has to be mastered, just to play the game. It should never interfere with the gameplay or story.

There’s always room to remake any game.  Everyone wants to remake the EGA games to VGA and text games to point-and-click  But it doesn’t have to end there.  Games can be remade into the style of SQ6 or QFGV, etc.  Personally, I’d really like to see remakes that try to go outside the box.  I know they’re free projects, but it would be cool just to see high resolution graphics and 32-bit colors.  And maybe even a new interface.

You might want to fix your installer, it won’t let you install anywhere but your default in the Program Files directory. I never install games on my system drive.

I LOVE this website so I hope that this is the right place and the right section of this place for this question.  lol

I’m lucky enough to’ve won the beautiful flatshaded 3D polygonal computer flightsimulators ‘Red Baron’ & ‘Aces Over Europe’ on eBay !
    WOOT!  WOOT!  lol

While lost in the grandeur that are those games, I began to wonder ….
Whatever happened to the software genius behind those masterpieces?

I would think with contemporary graphics horespower he’d make a computer flightsimulator that’d blow everyone away.

    Any help, please?

    Thank You In Advance!

King’s Quest III has been released!!

That’s right, the long damn wait is over. I smile with joy as I type
these words in, thinking if this day was ever to come. The production
is over, the testers are done and everything is ready to go. King’s
Quest III has finally been released. Remember this date, the 19th of
June. The day KQ3 was released!

It’s been twenty years since the evil wizard Manannan first appeared on
our computer screens, but now, thanks to the hard work and dedication
of the team at Infamous Adventures, he’s back!

Kings Quest 3 : To Heir is Human was first released by Sierra
On-Line back in 1986. As the second sequel to the hugely popular and
successful Kings Quest series, it fast became a fan favourite. Roberta
Williams, author of the Kings Quest series, broke new ground in
computer games, introducing players to the magic map concept (making
travel quicker between screens), timed puzzles and an in-depth spell
casting system. All these things are standard fare in today’s games,
but were original concepts in 1986.

Unfortunately, due to the advances made in computer technology
over the last twenty years, such classic games no longer run on the
modern computer. It was with this in mind that Infamous Adventures
decided to remake this game, bringing it up to the quality of Kings
Quest 5 & 6. Klytos, Executive Producer of IA’s Kings Quest 3 had
this to say. “We just love this game and felt that even twenty years
later the story was relevant and, more importantly, still fun. We
wanted to introduce a new generation of gamers to this classic and show
older players who remember the original something new and special. We
think we’ve done this, but it’s up to the fans to tell us what they
    think.”

Boasting all new full VGA backgrounds, enhanced hand-drawn
close up cut-scenes, dialog portraits for all the characters, original
music by our professional composer, full speech pack (including
narrator) and a new point-and-click interface, make Infamous
Adventures’ remake of Kings Quest III one of the best remakes on the
fan-game market. And the best part is, it’s free!

Re-experience this timeless adventure now at http://www.infamous-adventures.com.

We would love to give a huge thanks to everyone involved in
this project, too many to name but you know who you are. Yet that’s not
it, it’s you the fans who kept us going. We would love to give you the
biggest of thanks out of anyone, I mean if we just had tumbleweed as
support I don’t think we’d have got very far. Anyway, I know you want
to play the game. Well, go right ahead.

    DOWNLOAD KING’S QUEST III NOW!

The voice pack will be released next week, we didn’t want you guys
to wait any longer. Don’t worry, you won’t have to redownload the game
just for the voice pack. Just simply add the file to the program and
    boom, you’re off!

Again, I’d like to say thanks to everyone who contributed, whether it be the team or the fans, this game is for you. Enjoy.
