You know, I respect your decision although it makes me sad.  You and Roberta have done your part and it’s very sad that the 2nd generation of sierra owners were not able to continue making the company successful.  I would LOVE it if you guys bought it back, but I understand your decision fully.  Perhaps something good will come from someone else buying it or maybe something can be facilitated. Regardless you and Roberta have earned your retirement.  Boat on, my friend… boat on!

What’s the name worth these days?

I must say it’s a bit disappointing that you two, who seemed so passionate about what you were doing for so long, would turn your backs on those of us who were equally as passionate about playing the games you created. I pursued a career in the video game industry largely because of the passion you and Roberta poured into the artform. I can understand that you would need a break after the corporate atrocities that occurred in the mid-ninties, but I think it’s horribly disappointing that you wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to redeem those missteps that lead to such pain for both your employees and fans.

I just had the chance to buy Sierra back, and passed.

    There are many reasons.

    1) I am busy boating, and that is taking all of my time (see http://www.kensblog.com)
    2) It takes a LOT of money to build a game these days, and I don’t have that kind of money, and don’t really want to get into fund-raising mode. This is the wrong time to try to raise money.
    3) I’m “over the hill.” Great games are built by people who are in touch with the target audience. I’m 55 now! I’m not sure I relate to the gaming demographic anymore.
    4) I have http://www.talkspot.com .. a website making company (this site is built on a 5 year old version that has never been updated, so don’t think this is representative). Talkspot is doing VERY well and I’m overloaded working on it.
    5) Roberta is busy on a book about the irish immigration. She isn’t thinking about anything except her book.

I do plan to add games to talkspot.com when I get some time (they would be widgets that people building sites can add to their sites). Talkspot has a huge amount of traffic across our sites. A widget would immediately have critical mass, and I have some cool ideas for multiplayer games. I’m thinking on a two-year timeframe, not tomorrow.

    Speaking of…

    Gobliiins 4 official site opened

    February 26, 2009
Snowberry Connection (Russia) has launched the official International
site for the PC game Gobliiins 4. The new site, located at http://www.goblins4.ru,
contains a variety of screenshots, artworks and game information for
the upcoming game. Russian and English languages are supported.
    English version located at http://www.snowball.ru/g4-eng/

The games mix elements of adventure and puzzle gaming. In essence, the
player must find the solution to each level, in order to progress to
the next. An original aspect of the series is that the player usually
controls multiple goblins as player characters, each of whom has a
unique set of abilities (the number of letter it’s in the word ‘Goblin’
of the title indicates the number of characters that the player may
control). The player may only control one character at a time but,
depending on the specific scene, may switch characters at will.
For further information about the game and for interview opportunities,
please contact Alexander Souslov at Snowberry’s Moscow office available
    at Alexander.Souslov@snowball.ru.

Thank you for the kind offer!  Right now, I’m doing a lot of preliminary work and testing over on
the new system (thus the lack of updates on this site, which is on the old system).  Once I’m ready,
I’ll definitely keep you in mind if I need any help.  As long as the site is on the old server, there’s not
much point to doing much work because everything would need to be readjusted, redesigned, and
recoded for the new system.  Again, though, thank you for the offer of help!  I’ll be sure to keep you
    in mind.

Roberta is working full-time on her book. She did three years of historic research, and has been in the writing phase for about six months. I’m guessing she’ll have the book written within a year. I’m not sure what happens after that.

The book is a historic novel, tracing Irish history; the Potatoe famine, and the Irish Immigration to the US.

I’m the last person on earth to ever read anything even vaguely historic, but she’s a great writer, and I’ve read the first four chapters. It has me captivated, and I’m looking forward to each chapter as it comes. If it can make history interesting to someone as ‘not into it’ as me, then there’s undoubtedly a market for the book.

While on the subject – is Roberta still working on her book?

Ken is easily found: kenw at seanet.com….

Roberta is refusing all interview requests. She is really appreciative that people still remember her games, but doesn’t like “looking backwards”.

    Hi,

Maybe you can find the answer here: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/post-43677.html

About the WinG files. If I remember correctly, WinG was a graphics library for running high resolution graphics and is now succeeded by DirectX. The files you mentioned are part of the WinG installation. They are “converted” to the correct extension by the WinG installation.

    Hi!

See the following list for free data recovery programs:

    http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/01/24/top-10-free-data-recovery-software/

What file was deleted by the way? Your install.exe file?

@ Collector: Have been visiting your site for a while now, and it’s about time I said it: It’s AWESOME!

You could try a data recovery program. I’m not sure what free versions are available. Just try Googling. If you still can’t recover it, check out the Sierra Help Pages Forums

I found the dosbox site and downloaded it. BUT when i went to go back and install willy beamish, the install was deleted from my willy disk 1. I think I deleted it by accident when I was attempting to “unistall” the game, but I didnt realize that it was never installed in the first place. Is there anywhere I can get the install back on the disk without buying a new game, this one was hard enough to get hold to.

    Saying dito to it all.

My brother had a number of your early games, and at 6, you had me needing to know where the keys were and how to spell so I could play, too. Only difficulty was I had to remember something like KQ/kingsquest/run…. you certainly kept me in line, I had to ask permission every time I wanted to play, simply bec I couldn’t remember what to type in.
But anyways, within a year or two I could type at a reasonable speed.
And it only got better from there.  good intro to computers. I got the entire series for my little brother recently. He LOVES it. (yes it’s old and nostalgic, but so what. it’s fun.)
