Participant(re: Message from Scott Murphy) The last time that I was in touch with Mark, he was working at Pipeworks Software. I was conducting an interview with him for my website at the time (sometime in early 2001). He’s still listed as a staff member at Pipeworks’ website, so as far as I know, he’s still there.Best wishes!Jess

Participant(What Happened to Mark Crowe?) “Where in the World is Mark Crowe?”
I Really Like His Art Especially His Intro Scene in SQ3 the Robot Cockpit Picking Up Roger’s Drifting Craft. He Signed it at the bottom left corner! and i always thought it was impressive!Unknown,Unknown
Participant(Ken what about a Mystery House sequel?) Dear Ken,
What about a sequel to Mystery House? Lots of creative avenues to pursue there!?!?
I have to say that the sierra games slowly started circling the drain about the time of SQ4.
I think you should think of creating a new Game Engine something that doesn’t use the graphic interface.
Not to say i didn’t like what you guy’s (and gal’s) did at sierra but you repeated it over and over, there became a lack of intereset in each project the games were “fast food” compared to “home cooked”

Participant(re: Quest for Glory IV: Encountered a Strange Error) QFG3 and 4 are SCI-1. QFG1 and 2 are SCI-0. A SCI-2 never existed.

Participant(re: Quest for Glory IV: Encountered a Strange Error) Wait a second…. as i know, Qfg4 is SCI2…
Well, thanks for the help, anyway!Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Quest for Glory IV: Encountered a Strange Error) The problem is that modern computers are too fast for certain parts in old SCI-1 games, such as QFG4 and GK1. There are several Slow Down utilities available on the web, but there is but one that will get you past the dreaded Error 52/Swamp bug: CPU Killer, it’s available here;
Link: http://www.cpukiller.com/products/cpukiller/(http://www.cpukiller.com/products/cpukiller/)
Slow down your computer BEFORE you enter the swamp. Fight and kill the Chernovy, take the ritual, and leave the area.

Participant(KQ8) Dumb Question:
Is KQ8 actually a game or just movie with a game loading screen that crashes after loading for 10 minutes?
Seriously, cause I just spent 2 days trying to get it to run on a K6, (clean boot, 50mb Virtual Memory, DirectX6 (and 9), 640Res w/16 bit-color, closed all programs except Explorer, etc)
I have the min. requirements:
266mhz, 64mb ram, 600mb HD space, etc etc, but the game ALWAYS crashes after loading the “Kingdom of Daventry”… I get a split second of sound and then BLAM,locked-up black screen. (and yes, I waited a half an hour to see if it would eventually load)
Does KQ8 just not like the K6?
Perhaps more importantly…
Why did it ask me for a Combat Difficulty level?
I would like or Me Gusto oder ich will: ANY HELP, IDEAS…
Many ThanksUnknown,Unknown
Participant(re: An Evening at the Nightclub SIERRA) I’m glad you liked it! Yeah, the changes I was thinking of making were more or less along the lines you suggested.. I’m glad it came out well – English is not my fgirst language, it’s always a bit of a gamble trying to write for people who speak it every day… 😉

Participant(re: Conquest of Camelot Sound Help) Please note that VDMS is designed for use with Windows NT, 2000 and XP. As is, it will not work with Windows ME (or 95/98) — however, there is a link on the website to an alpha version of VDMS for Windows 9x that worked for me with ME — but you have to follow the directions explicitly to get it to work! It appears (at least it has been my experience with a couple of recent sound cards) that many newer sound cards (read — not SB) are Windows specific and cannot be set to work under a DOS environment — some even having trouble with Linux or vice-versa (read no legacy modes/not SB compatible) — thus the need for a program like VDMS that emulates DOS sound modes in the Windows environment. In fact, if I understand correctly, VDMS doesn’t strictly even require a sound card to work properly (although sound would most certainly be rather crappy and tinny without one — using the PC speaker, I presume.)

Participant(re: Conquest of Camelot Sound Help) Hi Elias,
You should try VDMSound at

.
It solved my sound problem in old dos games.
Good luck 🙂

Participant(re: Game Sound)
Will that patch work for higher end Sound Blasters? I’ve got an Audigy and can’t get Sierra games to work with it. Course, running Windows ME probably isn’t helping the case.

Participant(re: Game Sound) For VDM Sound users:
One thing that should help you to get more games running, is downloading the latest version of AUDBLAST.DRV from Sierra (
Link: http://ftp.sierra.com/patches/pc/sb16drv.exe(http://ftp.sierra.com/patches/pc/sb16drv.exe)
). That should do it for many games that won’t detect your hardware. Hope this helps

Participant(re: Conquest of Camelot Sound Help) did the patch work? (it might only be for the SCI games, i’m not sure.)

Participant(re: Conquest of Camelot Sound Help)
Its actually a VERY old DOS game and AGI (I believe) its one of the text driven nature. (The patch didnt seem to work, i dont think it works for AGI games)

Participant(re: Conquest of Camelot Sound Help)
is this a DOS game? did you get an error message when you first loaded the game?
first, try all the different sound card settings. (i’m assuming it’s a DOS game…) you can change your sound card setting by running install.bat
if that doesn’t solve the problem, try the GoSierra patch. it resolves a problem that occurs when the processor is too fast for the sound test to register that there’s a sound card. (if this is the case, you may have gotten an error message like “Unable to initialize sound card” when you tried running the game.)
the link for the GoSierra patch is below.

Participant(re: QFG1 speed)
yes, this is a timer bug. you need to slow down your computer with a program like moslo or turbo.
i used moslo to get past this a few months ago. there’s a free evaluation version.

Participant(re: An Evening at the Nightclub SIERRA) Hey, I read your story! (Believe it or not, I usually don’t read that often.)
I really like it, it’s very interesting to read, and you have understandable grammar. I liked the range of vocab you put into your text and the nice atmosphere you had in the story … Some very unique ideas there.
I’m not sure if you need a rewrite at all … but more detail needs to be put into play. Really, all you need to do is add more detail about the surroudings and such, maybe describe each character better … Ivy was written very well, but others were a bit more ‘scantily described’. You could get away with fixing minor grammar mistakes, adding more detail, and check over it deeply for anything else … Of course, another good idea is to remove the space between each paragraphs after you’re done editing. It seems to be more professional.
It was great … And the ending could easily lead to the sequel. Ever put a thought into that? It could be a series.Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?) This is quite the interesting topics. I enjoy making short films with my small acting group that I opened and I am director of, and we had to cancel a huge project this summer, so we’re currently deciding what should we do next for a short film (instead of a huge project).
As I look down my list here, we have about two or three ‘Sierra-Game Spin-offs’ that we may be doing over the summer. One of them consists of the ‘Hero’ revisiting Mordavia (Quest for Glory 4) in a small series, or a Leisure Suit Larry Spin-off: DiscoMan … Crazy superhero who acts a lot like Mr. Laffer.
Then another thing we were planning on doing was making three Quest for Glory related commercials, which would of course be humorous, and we would use them to advertise possibly QG2 Tierra’s remake (if they’re willing), or just for laughs.
So, I do have my list of work, although it won’t be nothing in theaters or such, since they are, ahem, copyrighted material of Sierra.Unknown,Unknown

Cyber Gladiators was released. I have a copy of it. I also liked RAMA. I am a big fan of Arthur C Clark and Issac Asamoz’s work.
I can’t belive you guys did BC’s quest for tires. My parents got that on a cartridge for out C64. I loved that game!

Andrew, I was thnking of Brenden Fraiser for Roger Wilco too! He’d be perfect! The first game into a movie would be great.
When I first heard of Galexy Quest, I THOUGHT it was space quest. Them, i found out it wasn’t. Then I saw the movie and was happy again!

Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?) Ugarte – I must say I’m looking forward to your script, it sounds very interesting.
Ofcourse, long movies are good, if not the best. You mention LOTR… Nice movie, but it’s a good example of a movie that failed to bring forth the complete story of the book to film… And I fear the same will happen to a GK movie.Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?) I also was thinking about a Space Quest movie, but I should be based on the first three games, as those were the most fun..
How about Brendan Fraser as Roger Wilco (he was very funny in George of the Jungle And the mummy.. LOL.. but maybe he’s too old now for playing Roger Wilco).. LOL.. As long as it ain’t one of the Wilson brothers (You know, the blond dude from shanghai knights)..Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?) I know, and I do imagine a good adaptation having to be long. Still…
1. Some long movies are great ones (i.e. Lord of the Rings, Titanic).
2. The historical stuff can be trimmed just a little to simply it and not confuse people, but not too much to eliminate it.
3. A few parts in the game are not needed (i.e. Madame Lorelei).
4. Some parts can be altered to avoid spoiling puzzles and make things go a bit quicker.
In this thing I’m writing for my web site, I’m already writing the scenes for Day 7, so I’m getting close to finishing. I’m not stopping now. 🙂Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?) I’m afraid too much of GK’s plot, story, and background history would be lost in a movie, unless it would be a very lenghty one…

Participant(re: Space Quest Movie?)
What I REALLY think should be adapted for film is the Gabriel Knight series. For a while, I’ve been imagining a GK1 movie in my head that right now, I’m writing a pseudo-script for my web site just for fun.
