I’m German, don’t think they’d let me vote in America. I was just quoting from the flash file, it was some punk concert or something. I don’t think the music is very good, but the message sure hits the spot! :o)

Participant(re: re: re: Anti Bush Message) I take it you won’t be voting for him the next election?? 😉

Participant(re: re: Sierra video promos) I own the Sierra On-Line Video Catalog 1989-90 Labeled:
Sierra On-line
Video Catalog 1989-90
P.O. Box 485
Coarsegold, CA 93614
I’ll be quite honest, I cannot remember which games are on there, but I will check again tonight.
If Ken will give me the server space, I’ll convert and post it for everyone – what format do you all prefer? Quicktime? Windows Media?
Just let me know.

Participant(re: re: Sierra video promos)
Ken,
I can do any conversion you want. I can make MPEG1, MPEG2, or MPEG4 (Quicktime and Divx versions).

Participant(Anti Bush Message) I hope I’m not insulting anyone by posting this, but I think it’s nicely put: “Don’t hate us because we’re Americans – just hate our government!” ;o)

Participant(re: Post / Topic Naming with ) I think there should be some way of “thread-” – or “tree-“, whatever it is supposed to be when it’s done – “tracking”, so one can see which way the discussion went. If I got it right, it’s supposed to be possible to reply to one message on the same level as often as desired and then reply to each reply as often as desired again. Ken was talking about a ‘tree’ instead of a ‘thread’ and that’s the only one I can imagine (but maybe I’m just lacking creativity there ;o)
Here’s another suggestion for the tree model: Why not give the replier the possibility to enter an alternate topic? Like this:
Person 1 starts a thread/tree with topic “Topic1”.
Person 2 replies with topic “re: Topic1” which is automatic, read-only in order not to confuse other users trying to follow the thread/tree. But he also gets the chance of specifying a topic which is that of his own post. The full topic would then be “re: Topic1 – Topic2”, Topic2 starting a new tree branch.
If Person 3 or 1 or whoever replies to Topic2, Topic1, being no longer relevant for this branch will be omitted and the topic of the new post will be read-only-topic “re: Topic2” and the chance to state an own Topic3 starting yet another branch.
If the optional reply topic is not stated, the thread continues normally (e.g., “Topic1” > “re: Topic1” > “re[2]: Topic1” etc.)
I’ll add a little bitmap that shows what I mean in a folder structure. (I’m not sure whether I’d get what I wrote ;o)Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: re: KQ4)
Yea that’s it, I wonder why it was removed from the SCI version…

Participant(re: re: Sierra video promos) That would be very cool!
One of those promo videos sold for $100+ a few months ago on ebay. I’d love to have seen it, but that’s way too rich for my blood…

Participant(re: Sierra video promos) I have a LOT of old Sierra videos, but am not really set up to digitize video right now.
I’ll look around to see if I know someone who can do the conversion.

Yes. From Sierra Planet:
After you kill Lolotte, go to the hallway outside the prison cell, then type BEAM ME. You get teleported to a room with a bunch of Sierra employees! This only works for the AGI version of the game — Domen (5-16-1999)

Participant(re: Your Vacation) Well I’m living in Europe and I haven’t seen much anti-american things around, I think it’s long cooled down 😉
Oh and I hope You have a great vacation Ken 🙂Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: re: KQ4) Wasn’t there a hidden scene in the AGI version of KQ4??? somewhere in the castle I think, you could be beamed up to space…

I think Kimmie is the same person who runs Sierra Planet. Hopefully she’ll be able to help!

Participant(re: re: re: re: KINGS QUEST 5) Thank you very much for your effort! I didn’t find a solution, but someone with the same problem :o)
I just hope this Kimmie person could actually help in the other case – this is about as close as I got so far with this one.

Participant(re: Space Quest 4 CD) I was one of the programmers on the CD version of Space Quest 4. The timing is different in the CD version because it was switched from game cycles to actual time counters. My developer machine was a Gateway 386 dx. And on that machine, it worked. But I agree that it’s much too difficult to get through the mall sequence.

Participant(re: re: re: KINGS QUEST 5)
well, here’s one solution i found:
Problem: The game crashes with a “out of heap” message after activating Mordack’s machine in his laboratory.
Solution: Before activating the machine, turn both the speed and detail settings in the control panel to minimum.
There’s a saved game here (see King’s Quest 5 Patch 2)

hope that helps!

I also believe KQ4 was the first SCI game. but what I’m hearing is that the IIGS version wasn’t truly SCI… maybe Ken can answer when he checks back in. (as far as I know, KQ4 was also the last game to be made for the Apple IIGS.)
as for the AGI version, you can download it from abandonware sites. (I don’t see the harm in this, considering Sierra never really made it available!) Strangely enough, I think I once owned a copy… we had tech problems with KQ4 and tech support sent us a new copy. Their standard response to KQ4 tech problems was to send an AGI version, assuming the SCI version wouldn’t work. The replacement disks they sent us were DOS, we needed Apple versions (we did have a DOS computer but it only used 5″ floppies, and these were 3.5″ inch). It finally got straightened out, but those DOS disks were sitting around my house for YEARS… we never did see what was on them. So frustrating for me to learn later that they probably contained the rare AGI version of the game!

Participant(re: re: KINGS QUEST 5) Thank you! I’ve been looking for it (strange thought btw: a savegame that was saved after completing the game ;o), but I couldn’t find it anywhere.
Sierra.com’s support knowledge base seems quite stripped of stuff that’s related to the old adventure games, unfortunately. I can’t quite understand why they removed the old stuff – as if it hurt anyone.
Does anyone have an idea as of where to get a savegame that might enable me to see the KQV closing scene after all? I will definitely survive without it and the longer it’s been the less frustrated I am about it – i do have a life after all. Anyway, it would really be nice!Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: re: re: KQ4 — IIGS vs. DOS) I’ve got the SCI version. I’m pretty sure it’s still running the opening scene… 😉

Participant(re: re: KQ4 — IIGS vs. DOS) As far as I know KQ4 was the first SCI game.
I used to own the AGI version but lost it 🙁Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: re: Email notify – digest mode) I was wondering if you could possibly add the option to receive email notification in “digest mode” – i.e., to receive one email message a day containing links to all postings to the site in the last 24 hours?
Also, I am always wondering – why don’t I get email notification for my own messages? I would like to get the notifivation? <
I think digest mode is a great idea, also. 🙂
Dave
Dave:
I’m not sure why you don’t get email notification on your own postings. You should. I’ll look into it.
I’m about to board a plane. If my laptop battery doesn’t die, I’ll work on putting together a digest mode.

Participant(re: KQ4 — IIGS vs. DOS)
Don’t forget that there were two DOS versions — SCI and the rare AGI version. I believe that KQ4 was the first SCI game and was developed for both engines.
