The Hero’s Quest manual has been sold to Brandon! Thanks very much, Brandon!!

Simon, I haven’t gotten an e-mail from you if you have sent one. If you are trying to send one and it isn’t going through, please post here and let me know.

    Thanks,
    Beth

Of course, totally understandable and adviseable. If you post some here of your digitized versions, it would also be a good alternative for those who, for whatever reason, might not want to buy the DVD.

The game is too big, you won’t find it for download, which would be illegal.

You could still find it at software stores in bargain bins, but that depends on your luck. Your best bet is eBay or Amazon, if you don’t want to order online, get a friend who buys stuff online to buy it for you.

    Hi Ken,

    thanks for your answers.
It would be great if you could upload those video(s) for us 🙂 I’m not the only one who wants to have it since we are at least 10 persons (within my circle of friends) who loved the old aventures made by Sierra (and – if I’m allowed to say that *hehe* – LucasFilmGames).

If you want to you can send me an eMail with the link or
    publish it here!

Okay, let’s get a little further, Roberta: Let’s say Sierra WOULD indeed give you the chance to create a new King’s Quest game (btw. why wouldn’t they want? I know, Sierra seems to be more some kind of publisher than developer nowadays but moving “backwards” can mean a big jump to the front sometimes!) – would you accept some kind of co-creator besides you? And what about Phantasmagoria which was a fantastic game? Did you keep the rights for that series? (Or Jane Jensen?)

I wish you both luck with your ongoing life and I hope that this site will stay as a reminder for all the people who loved the old Sierra adventures.

    Many greetings

I think it’s when Larry “scores” with Thunderbird in Larry 6. The narrator says something like “What have you gotten yourself into THIS time Larry?” then Larry goes “Hey! What the hell kind of date is this?” The voice actors were hillarious.

I have the CD with the original AVIs. But, those files were always very low resolution.

I noticed that! .. strange. Someday, if I get free time I’ll fix it. Since it works fine on Safari, and (I believe) Microsoft has dropped support for their browser on the Mac, my current plan is to not put a lot of energy into hunting down why it’s doing that.

    interesting…

i am on a mac with IE5.1, and the new stuff seems to be working just fine. the only thing i’ve noticed that’s “off” is that the Home, System, Sierra, etc. options at the top of the screen are appearing just below the gray line, rather than centered within it (as they are on a windows machine).

(re: re: Excited about LSL:MCL) I believe that a good Larry game can be made without Al Lowe, although I, as probably everybody else, would rather see that Al Lowe would be the designer or at least some kind of advisor.
The guys over at High Voltage Software are Larry fans themselves though, and they seem to be very nice people and quite frankly my confidence in them has grown stronger all the time. At this point I’m confident that the game they will bring us will be a great one.

“: About three months ago I tried to get in thouch with Catz, but I never reached him. It would be great if he could make a comeback, but I guess that he has just moved on. If I remember correctly he didn’t update The Ultimate Leisure Suit Larry Site during the two last years it was up, but maybe that was because nothing really new happened on the Larry front back then.
Anyway, I agree that it would be nice if he could make a comeback and, for example, join the LarryLives.com team, because a guy like him could surely make a huge difference in our efforts.

this is what Al has to say about it, on his site:

    October 29, 2003

For the thousands of you who have written and expressed support of me becoming involved with the new game, I have news: your efforts are being heard. I have been in contact with Sierra many times over the past week and, while nothing is finalized yet, today Sierra’s legal department said I could release the following (grammatically challenged) message:

“Currently, I am in the process of negotiations with Vivendi Universal Games and my involvement with the next installment of the Leisure Suit Larry. Once we have reached an agreement I will be able to comment more on my involvement.”

I’ll leave it to the message boards to discuss the full meaning and ramifications of this.

Watch this page for the latest information.

Hi Simon, when I played Larry 3 and got to the point you mentioned I just left the game and came back at a later time.
Not smart but it did the trick!

Thing is, this list only mentions titles made at Oakhurst. Larry 7 and such were made in Seattle at their Bellevue division.

It’s great news that Sierra are making some adventure games from their classic franchise, but I would consider this more of a spin-off than a sequel. I mean, NO Al Lowe? That’s like Indiana Jones without Steven Speilberg.

But if the game holds true to the Larry style than that’s okay. But it ain’t no Larry 8 (With Al Lowe DESIGNING) and that’s what we wanted.

I wonder though, with all this Larry news will Catz think of reopening The Ultimate Leisure Suit Larry Web-Site?

    (re: re: Congratulations!)

She is smart to say that! Why should you give input on a series you created? If she doesn’t have full control over the game then she should decline. I have never actually played KQ8 all the way through but from what I saw at a friend’s house…it is missing the Roberta Williams touch. The same thing is kind of going on with Al Lowe….I wonder if he’ll help or not…and it might be too late to do anything significant to the new game. They should just continue to make their own game based on his old humour, after all they have much content to get ideas from.

(re: New site design comments) My comments are embedded within your message below…

    —————————————
I like the new site design. The colors and style are very modern and elegant and classy. You can’t go wrong with black, white and grays. I also like the way the topics are laid out in tables with borders around them, and the way the messages and replies are laid out.
    But …
The new site doesn’t look as warm and friendly and welcoming and Sierra-ish as the old site did.
    But …
I think that might only be the different font that you’re using. Arial Bold is what it looks like. It’s too blocky and lacking of warmth and personality. The font used on the old site (Comic Sans MS??) had more personality and style. It was more Sierra-ish, and I liked it better.
I agree – I liked the old font. The software behind this site is running about 25 other websites. EVERYONE was complaining that their website was ugly. Before, I was giving the webmaster a ton of power to control what their site looked like, but more people are not artists – and, you can give them all the power you want, and they’ll never produce anything that looks good. I decided that rather than allow each webmaster the ability to choose font styles, sizes, colors, etc, I would have a set of templates, in different “styles” and each webmaster can choose the one that represents their goals.
Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to doing the other templates yet. I meeting with an agency on Tuesday to have them do the templates. Expect I should have them within a month.
These comments, of course, are in my humble opinion.
    Sue
P.S. Are some of the page sub-headings (for lack of a better description) supposed to look like they’ve been selected as text? If you look at your “Conversations” page, you should see what I mean. It also looks that way on the first page of the “Interaction Magazine” topic.
What you are seeing is my lame attempt to do colored text. I’m a business guy, and programmer – but, have no sense of estetics whatsoever. When I get some time I’ll try to make it prettier.
P.P.S. I have gotten the same messages for the last three days or more. Bug??
Do you mean the notification emails? If so, that shouldn’t be happening. I’ll look at the code. Someone else reported this, and I still can’t see how it can happen. Forward them to me if you still have them (
    Link:kenw@seanet.com (mailto:kenw@seanet.com)
    )
P.P.P.S. When I clicked the button to post this message (the first time), it showed up as a reply to Emily’s post #12678 even though I wrote it as a new topic message and not as a reply to anyone else’s. I deleted my first message and am trying to post it again. If it shows up as a reply to someone else’s again, I’m going to leave it that way. I thought you might want to know.
I’ll see if I can get it to do again. That’s new code with this release, so it’s very possible I have a bug there.
    Thanks!

(re: Congratulations!) “Ah, by the way… I had this King’s Quest Collection long time ago (with KQ 1-6 and a demo of KQ 7 on it). There was a video with “The Fun has just begun” or stuff on it. Is it possible to get that video from somewhere since I can’t find the CD anymore. Thanks for your answer(s)!”
I just bought a video digitizer. If I get some time this week I’ll upload it!

PS Thanks for all the comments.
PS2 – I forgot to answer your first question about whether Roberta would advise on a new Kings Quest game. I asked Roberta this and she said “no way” – if Sierra would ask her to do a Kings Quest, she would be delighted to do it (which they won’t). But the idea, of giving ideas to someone else on a game that isn’t hers sounds doomed to failure (which is kind of what went wrong on KQ8).

(re: Manuals found (Hero’s Quest 1 and S101)) Hi there,
    About Spellcasting 101:
    Link: http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,1027/(http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,1027/)

It was an illustrated text adventure (i.e., you actually saw your surroundings in the form of still images. You could click on various elements of the screen to select an item, but most of the action took place by typing and reading – no walking around there.)
The story went something like “King’s Quest III meets Leisure Suit Larry” – You’re a poor slob called Earnie Eaglebeak, badly treated by evil stepfather Johnny Rottenwood who’d rather see you cleaning dragon dung than enroll at Sorcerer’s University which is your dream – because “Sorcerers get all the girls”. So the first task is to escape home and get to SU before your evil stepfather finds out…
This was one hilarious game! I’m actually interested in the manual as well as the HQ1 manual.
Brandon has already stated he’d like to have the HQ1 manual – about the SC101 manual, I’d be very glad to buy that from you. Interested in selling?
    Simon.

(re: LSL3. Cherri Tart won’t stop dancing.) Hi there,
sorry, you’ll have to wait ridiculously long until it’s over. But it’ll be worth it. :o)
There’s a couple of parts in the game that were made dependent on the CPU speed, causing strange annoyances on new, fast CPUs. I’m not sure if I remember all of them, but they definitely include:
    – Cheri Tart dances VERY long.
    – You’ll have to do a LOT of exercise at Fat City (you’ll get a message once you’re done with each discipline.)
    – The elevator that’ll take you to Patti’s penthouse also takes VERY long. (But the floor display works as a progress bar, so you can estimate how long it takes. ;o)

LOL sorry Ken I can sometimes list off a whole bunch of things or sometimes as you found say I don’t like it, but then don’t give a whole bunch of things… it’s hard to know what to say, I can be overly critical and not enough constructive, don’t want to offend. I tend to pick up on all the little details and that can be interpreted as nit-picking but I’m a perfectionist.

Here’s just one small one then, make a line break between the box containing the first message and the first reply.

Here’s another one, add an extra line break *before* the lines that separate each message. This will just help to see the messages easier.

The lines between messages are looking better now, but they could still be just a bit thinner… either by 1/2 or 3/4 of their current height.
