Lucas needs some help – can we lend a hand???
There’s a Sam -N- Max petition here if you’re interested:

With Sam and Max 2 I figure it went like this: they would have been able to finish development in a few months as scheduled at no great cost and the game would have been profitable. However, Star Wars games, even bad ones, are more profitable. From a short-term financial perspective Lucasarts made the right decision in shifting all of that labor over to a more profitable Star Wars game (which is what I assume happened – nobody was laid off). Obviously though the fan backlash has been huge…we’ll see how much longer people will keep buying any crap Star Wars game.
I’m actually a bit upset that Lucasarts published Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which got and still gets rave reviews. I’m going to wind up buying it soon, and wish it wasn’t them who put it out (development wasn’t done by them though).

Participant(Re: Sam and Max 2 Cancelled – Ken Comments?) To give Ken a bit more knowledge of the situation in case you don’t know… LucasArts also cancelled their Full Throttle sequel. This is another of LucasArts’ classic, original adventure games.
The Full Throttle sequel was not meeting with good reactions from the fans though. S+M, on the other hand, from only a couple of screenshots, was very well received.
And now, it’s been substantiated that LucasArts is working on a fifth Monkey Island game, another of their popular original classic adventure games. I don’t doubt that this game too will be canned in good time.
The LA press statement on the cancellation of S+M was absolutely ridiculous. It was basically a one-liner from some PR guy that demonstrated a complete incompetence and lack of understanding of the classic LucasArts fan base that is out there.
LucasArts, just as Sierra, has stopped selling their early games (though they did sell them for much longer after the fact than Sierra did (which was not at all), mostly in collections, after the fact meaning for Sierra when Sierra was sold, and for LucasArts when they stopped making adventure games). Now, as has been commented on elsewhere, LucasArts is all about Star Wars and pretty much nothing else. This is very sad.
By the way Brad, where did you read that S+M was almost at completion? I doubt that was the case.Unknown,Unknown
Participant(Re: Am I just a wimp?) I played the original Phantasmagoria years after it first came out. A couple of years ago, I got a beat-up copy from eBay for Halloween one year. I thought it was a good game too, I was just really impressed and inspired by some of the 3D graphics in it (when it was first promoted, and since then I’d wanted to play it). I wasn’t scared… but it just sickened me actually, I’m not so good with gore and violence, so that I stopped playing close to the end of the game when the deaths of the wives were becoming more intense and one right after the other.
I did skip to the last chapter though to try the chase sequence.
And I’m still looking for a sealed copy for my collection.Unknown,Unknown

Read the home page to this site. Ken addresses this question there.

I don’t think that you can re-create it easily. What you might do is set your save games aside for safe keeping, start the game and make an equal number of new save games. Copy your old save games back, overwriting the new ones. The old save games will then be accessible, but with the new names. If you open each save game, you can re-save it with name you want.

Participant(re: Has there ever been a CD Talkie of Robin Hood?) I have never personally come across a CD Talkie version of Robin Hood in all my years of Sierra collecting… so I feel pretty confident in saying it was most likely listed incorrectly on MobyGames.

That sounds right. Does this file have anything in it? I wonder if I can just create a new one and place it in the directory.

Hi Orat,
I’ve discovered your vintage-sierra.com site, which is very impressive. I have also discovered the differences between the first 2 versions of King’s Quest for the PCjr. I have the second one and didn’t know the keyboard overlay was something else than the small top overlay of the second release.
Do you have any idea where I could buy the first PCjr version?
BTW, I have the VGA version of Space Quest 1, although I’m not sure I still have the 3.5″ disks (I have the 5.25″ disks and all the rest for sure).Vincent.

Participant(re: Dagger of Amon Ra – what’s supposed to be in the box?)
Emily, the floppy version of Amon Ra does have copy protection at the start of the game, while the CD version does not.

I believe that the missing file should be “GK2SG.DIR”

Participant(Re: Dagger of Amon Ra – what’s supposed to be in the box?) 1. The magnifying glass is part of the copy protection of the Colonel’s Bequest. You put it on a given manual page and click on the symbol that shows up in the window.
Actually, the magnifying glass is used on the back of the Plantation Map to see the fingerprints for the CB copy-protection. And yes, vintage-sierra.com is excellent.
I had a great find recently too. A sealed copy of the original diskette release of Willy Beamish on eBay, with the watch offer sticker on the front. That makes a nice addition to my collection of sealed product. I’m looking for another one though so I can open it 🙂Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Dagger of Amon Ra – what’s supposed to be in the box?) Hi Emily,
1. The magnifying glass is part of the copy protection of the Colonel’s Bequest. You put it on a given manual page and click on the symbol that shows up in the window.
2. The Dagger of Amon Ra had a manual check too, so you will need the original documentation.

Emily,
You can always check http://www.vintage-sierra.com (shameless plug) for box contents as most are there 🙂

Participant(re: Gabriel Knight 2 saved games)
I’m pretty sure there are two files you need — one is the index of all the saves, and the other is the saved game itself. GK2SG.000 seems to me like it would be the game that fills up the first slot in the saves. GK2SG.001 would be the next, etc.
I’m just going by memory (don’t currently have it installed) so I could be completely wrong on this.

ps also, are you using the same version of the game that you did before, with the same patches installed, etc.?

Participant(re: Kings Quest 7 – Valanice still Queen?)
Oh, I knew that Valanice was a Queen. Just seems strange how she doesn’t act as regal as she has in previous Kings Quests.

Participant(re: re: Freddy Pharkas Fanart)
Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comments.
Regarding Freddy’s face, it probably looks abnormal because he has only one ear, but I was trying to keep the game’s “cartoony” style as well. Would either of you please elaborate on what you think could use some improving?
Thanks,
Akril

Participant(re: Kings Quest 7 – Valanice still Queen?)
Interesting question. Apparently Valanice is a touch more modest than Rosella and doesn’t deem it proper to introduce herself as a Queen while she is in a foreign country. Also, since Rosella is both her daughter and a princess, it should be pretty obvious to the player that Valanice is a Queen.

Link: http://www.gamedev.net(http://www.gamedev.net)Though I must warn you in advance the people there tend to be a bit…. arrogant in terms of who they are willing to help. Trying to recruit help for my project from there as resulted in a bottleneck of flamers and arrogant snobs who demand to know every little detail about you, your credentials, and your project before they even send you an email. At least, that was the case until I identified myself as a member of the game industry with my name in the credits of three published game titles anyway. 😉

Participant(re: KQ Speech)
I enjoyed the twists in KQ2. The originally was a simplex game – and well enjoyed by me as a child – but the Tierra introduced Hagatha as the antagonist. If I remember, she was just another obstacle and there were no real antagonists so to speak.
I only wish I knew where I could get these games again. I did buy the Police Quest Collection some time ago but can’t find a Kings Quest Collection. How nostalgic I’m feeling.

Participant(re: Kings Quest 6 Corrupt Floppies!)
I know how you feel. KQ6 was my favourite and all I have now is a box full of 5 1/4 floppies. Computers these days do not have such disk drives and my drive (5 1/4 drive that is) broke down in the middle of installing it. I guess I”ll never get to play it again!

Participant(Oh No!)
Where did it go??
I would really, really like to get this, but the links are broken! Is it still up on the net somewhere?
