    (re: KQC on XP and Win 98)

    Always skip the Sierra system checks on modern machines. Go to the CD and copy the folders for 1-4 and KQ1SCI to your Sierra folder on your hard drive. For 1-3, just run SIERRA.COM to play these games. If you have trouble with the text, play these three with NAGI.

    For 1-4 and KQ1SCI, you can drag shortcuts to your desktop for easy access.

    for 5 and 6, go to either game’s folder on the CDs (1st CD for 5, 2nd for 6) and run SETUP.EXE to install the Windows versions, or INSTALL.EXE to install the DOS versions. If you install the DOS versions, you will need to run them with VDMSound.

    Notes about KQ5: Many have trouble getting the speech to work with the DOS version of KQ5, but the Windows version is subject to the infamous “Out of heap” error. For the Windows version, your screen resolution MUST be set to 640×480, 256 colors before you start the game (it checks your resolution before compatibility mode can change it) and XP hides this mode. You can get to it in the advanced disply settings, though. For a more convenient way, replacing the Windows shortcut with a batch file set to compatibility mode, 640×480, 256 will also work. See:

    To get the Windows version of KQ6 running, it will be a little more involved, after you have installed it. See this thread for help:

    Hi again, Julie,

    If you are using a download manager, you must have a referrer set to the download PHP page. This happens automatically, but some download managers ignore the referrer, which is a proof of the page where you are coming from.

    You could also have a too restrictive firewall. This is described on the Underdogs site.

    You should disable any ad-filtering (not only pop-up filtering) software such as Norton Internet Security or ZoneAlarm with Web filtering. Such software filters cookies and other page components, and might tamper with the page.

    I guess you’ve managed downloading.

    Happy playing!

    (re: GK4) Yeah I know! I’m currently replaying the GK series and I’ve almost completed GK2 and I don’t wanna start playing GK3. I know I’m going to love it but I also know I’m gonna get pissed at the end too 😉
    Don’t think we’ll ever see a sequel to GK. Sierra won’t sell the rights to GK and looking at their current lineup they won’t be making any adventure games soon (no LSL8 isn’t an adventure game!). The best chance we have at seeing a GK4 is in a paperback format. But Jane first has to finish her new game then write GK3 and then she could start writing the story for GK4. Doesn’t look good does it?

    I don’t have any pop-up filters. What else could be wrong? When I try to download something, I type in that security code that’s under the logo and it gives me an error page. I’ll try downloading it from the latest reply. Thanks anyway 🙂

    I went over to my parents’ house this past weekend and managed to dig up the demo I was talking about.

    It works fine in DOSbox, and I recommend using the Boxer front-end. Set it up to use the AdvMame2X filter, which smoothes things out measurably.

    All in all, it isn’t anything as spectacular today as I remembered it. Still, it does feature speech for the narrator and some characters, which leads me to believe that an MPC version was at least in progress at some point, regardless of whether it was released or not.

    Hi Julie,

    I just tried it and it is downloadable from the Underdogs. As a precaution, close all download managers before that, as well as disable any popup/ad-filtering.

    If you can’t manage it, you can wait until I download it and upload it to my site today where you’ll be able to download from without problems.

    Best regards,

    I don’t know about you guys, but EcoQuest 1 was probably my most favourite game of Sierra’s. Just everything was great about it…

    Anyways I finally got my hands on EcoQuest 2. Which I thought would have been as good as EcoQuest 1. And I was really dissapointed. It just seemed less.. well just not as interesting. I was hoping to use that magic conch shell to call on aid during EcoQuest 2. Anyways although EcoQuest 2 was an ok game, it was nothing compared to EcoQuest 1.

    Does anyone else think so?

    The site is definitely usable on a Mac. It’s just like an adventure game where you have to look around a bit more to find the right buttons…

    (re: re: Building Old Computers For Sierra Gaming HELP!!!!) William,

    Try the following autoexec and config files (attached). Make sure to substitute your CD rom driver for OAKCDROM.SYS (although that driver works well for most drives). I did not post it because of possible copyright, but it’s real common and you should actually have it if you have some old disks kicking around.

    CONFIG.SYS
    DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
    DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS
    DOS=UMB,HIGH
    DEVICEHIGH=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:CD1
    BUFFERS=30,0
    FILES=40
    LASTDRIVE=Z
    FCBS=16,0
    BREAK=ON
    STACKS=9,256

    AUTOEXEC.BAT
    @echo off
    PROMPT $P$G
    PATH C:\;C:\DOS
    LH MSCDEX.EXE /D:CD1 /L:D
    LH SMARTDRV.EXE
    LH DOSKEY.COM

    AUTOEXEC.BAT
    CONFIG.SYS

    (re: re: re: Excited about LSL:MCL)

    There is an article out on CNN.com with some interesting information on LSL:MCL. It seems that the media (or the big entertainment conglomerates) are trying to make the game out to be part of a “sex and nudity” gaming wave. LSL:MCL looks pretty goofy, but the other game looks downright raunchy.

    Nah it is still usable.

    I’m on a Mac running 10.2.8 OS X and using the browsers Safari 1.0.2, Mozilla Firefox 0.8 and Explorer 5.2.3 and I can get around your site fine.

    It doesn’t look as sweet on my Mac as it does on my PC.

    (re: Building Old Computers For Sierra Gaming HELP!!!!)

    Hi! I just got my hands on an old 486 with DOS 6. I also got my hands on a Win 95 CD and a CDROM drive. What is the complete command to make the computer accept the drive and where ( autoexec, config.sys…)do I input it? I seem to remember it was “Mscdex” but I forgot the rest. It’s been a long time since I last did this in the good ol’ days of DOS. Thanks for your help.

    (re: re: re: formatting all screwed up on the mac) All:

    Sorry about the Mac display problems.

    Adam is working with me to solve the problem, and I’m working on a utility to help him debug — but unfortunately, things are moving slow because I’m not getting much (if any) time to work here on the boat.

    Let me know if it is completely unusable, and I’ll flip us back to the “old” layout.

    It’s the same on Mozilla for the PC.

    BTW, the front page doesn’t have a background colour set. This should probably be set to white. Most people have their system or browser set up to have a white background by default, so they don’t notice. Mine, however, is set to grey, which looks kinda odd.
