If you upload any file, it is then hosted by Sierra Gamers. Ken has been extremely generous with the resources provided by this site. Of course, if you want to you can provide links to your own hosting within your post.

Hi! I have a question concering uploading of mp3’s. Are the files hosted by Sierra Gamers when you have uploaded them or do you have to host them yourself? You see I want to upload the music tracks from the second game cd from Shivers 2… Thanks!

By all means, please scan them and CD, also, if possible.

    >was it simply because it’s easier, or did they think it was more realistic? If the latter is the case, I find it quite silly as adventure games in general aren’t realistic.

I think it was a design error.

As for realism, games should not fly away with the fairies, that is, should not include too much fantasy, like fantasy for fantasy’s sake, but rather try to teach you something. I think that old Sierra games were ok in this regard, but of course, improvement is possible. 🙂

Are the manuals in the original games good, like in SQ and many other Sierra games, or aren’t they? Do I miss out on a lot by only having the Collection?

I like the idea of prof windleknots'(spelling?) son following in dads footsteps, and it sounds like a truly ambitious project.. I still can hear the music from the first one and get chills, which is a good thing.
Being a musician, the atmospheric music from the first game are the best I’ve ever heard, even the elevator music 😀
I’ll email you soon, as I’m very interested in helping with the music for this.
Also, Shivers 2 didn’t *suck* so much, it was just different 😛

Will the game start with the Windows shortcut if you set your resolution to 640×480, 256 colors, before you try to start the game?

Sorry, don’t have it on any official Sierra disk. It came with a collection of demos (from a variety of publishers) which was included with my first ever CD-ROM drive back in the early nineties. My father went to America on business and brought back a Creative Labs upgrade kit (SB16 + Double Speed CD-ROM drive). Man, what a buzz that was!

Brandon, there were no liner notes, as such. The disc is a hybrid disc that had data and audio tracks and was included in the same box that the game disc came in. I could scan the disc and the disc box, if you would like. 600 dpi?

What serves as liner notes is on the data track with the game manuals and the GK1 graphic manual. The entire data track is a little over 14 MB zipped. I would be willing to upload it some where for you, but I am on dialup and I have been timed out uploading things of any size to this site. If you have an FTP that I upload it, or you have another idea, let me know.

Here is what is in a TXT file in the base directory:

    Gabriel Knight Mysteries LTD. Edition
    Soundtrack Enhanced CD with Docs

    Sierra On-Line

    Notice:

CD Track 1 is a data track and may be playable on some CD players.
Please skip this track to get to the music.

(re: re: Gabriel Knight Mysteries Soundtracks) I’ve aleady sorted a CD for Matt, he’s happy!

I own the CD so I could do scan of it if you like. The version I have (from Mysteries shipped in oversize box released in Europe) there are no CD inlays, covers, etc. What DPI would you like?

(re: Gabriel Knight Mysteries Soundtracks) Collector (or anyone else),
Would you scan hi-res the CD and the liner notes / front / back covers?

    Matt,
Does anyone else live in the UK who could burn the MP3s for him? It’s obviously easiest if someone living in the same country helps him out.

    Chage,
I don’t know anything about those .wav files, but I’ll see what I can figure out. Maybe someone else has an insight on those.

By the way love the new site design. Finally catching up on responding to a few messages and moving some messages around that are in the wrong places. Reminder if you find your message is gone it’s probably just moved and if it’s recent you can find it again by going to “System” and then “New Messages.”

I’ve never checked out the Sierra Reunion… I thought there were some MP3s posted somewhere else on this site as well. It’d be good to collect all the best quality versions and post them in the Music / Soundtrack museum here (we can change it to an “audio” museum). This would also be something to put on the DVD eventually. Once we figure out what we’ve got, we can get on the search for higher quality versions. If anyone out there has higher quality versions, let us know.

On this website, in the sidebar menu choose Museum, then choose Music / Soundtracks, and you’ll find it available for download in 128 kpbs MP3 format.

I had/have a hint book that talked about the “Upcoming” Talkie version of Robin Hood. I even saw the CD/Talkie version advertised in some computer game seller ad in an old magazine. I played RH to death but never saw a voice version, I eventually figured it had been canned.. How hard would it be to add voice to this game? (Outside of finding good voice actors of course 🙂 I wonder who they had planned on using?

Wow, this must be a rare oddity. I can’t look at this ’cause I’m at work right now, but just wondering what the source of the demo is. Floppy disk since it’s so small? Any chance you’d part with the original disk (if you have it) for either Brad or myself to add it to our perhaps-future-museum collections?

As you might know, Ken is on a cruise right now. I’m sure he’ll reply to you when he gets a chance to, but you’ll have to be patient.

(re: re: re: re: KQC on XP and Win 98)

INSTALL.EXE is for the DOS version, and SETUP.EXE is for the Windows version. To install the Windows version you will need to set your display to 640×480 256 colors in the advanced display settings. Right click on your desktop and choose Properties, go to the Settings tab and click the Advanced tab. Then go to the Adapter tab and click the “List All Modes…” button. Scroll up until you get to 640 by 480, 256 colors and select it. You will now be able to install the Windows version.

BTW, compatibility mode is of use only to Windows programs, not DOS programs.

(re: re: re: KQC on XP and Win 98) Collector,

I ran the install.exe on CD2 it poped up a dos-type window and appeared to install it fine.

I have compatability set to win98 and 256 colors(i also tried win 95).

On the properties, I had to change where it looked for sciwv.exe so that it looked at the e: drive where the CD is. This file does not exist in the c:\sierra\kq6cd\ folder that the forgram created when it installed it

(re: re: KQC on XP and Win 98) I am doing what you suggested, however when I go to run the setup.exe from the KQ5 folder on the CD, it says that I have an incompatible video driver.

    I have a GForce 5900
