    Is there any way we could download the GK songs to our computer besides just listening to them from this website? They can only be saved as htm files.

    A note on glide wrappers and MoE. I just tried OpenGlide and zeckensack’s Glide wrapper. The game ran too slow for me to be playable with OpenGlide. With zeckensack’s Glide wrapper I was able to get 800×600 at a reasonable speed if I turned off all the extra effects, such as dynamic lighting.

    Here is the cover art for the collection and the extra CD. I resampled them down to 200 dpi. Brandon, if you want higher res versions just let me know what resolution you want.

    (re: Difficulty installing SQ5 on a new Windows machine)

    I am unaware of any Windows version of SQ5. The only SQ Windows games should only be 4 and 6. If you are having trouble installing the game, just copy the SQ5 folder on the CD to your hard drive and run INSTALL.EXE. If you still have trouble, edit your RESOURCE.CFG to your needs. It should be somthing like this:

    videoDrv = VGA256N.DRV
    soundDrv = GENMIDI.DRV
    audioDrv = AUDBLAST.DRV
    joyDrv = NO
    kbdDrv = IBMKBD.DRV
    mouseDrv = STDMOUSE.DRV
    memoryDrv = ARM.DRV
    language = 1
    minHunk = 223k

    Binky, your post reminded me of something. A few months ago, I dug out my girlfriend’s father’s old computer and got it working. It was a 486SX w/8 meg RAM, 3 1/2 + 5 1/4 drives, 100 meg hard drive, 25 mhx and it was like someone had reached back into the past and pulled the computer straight into the future because the hard drive still had everything on it. Here’s some of the stuff:

    Dos 6.22
    Win 3.1
    Banner Mania!
    Harvard Graphics
    Wordperfect 5.0
    Wheel of Fortune
    Jeopardy
    Classic Concentration
    SkiFree for Windows
    Lotus 1-2-3
    Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

    What a blast from the past!

    (re: Building Old Computers For Sierra Gaming HELP!!!!) Well, to get this thread a little back on track — I have built a computer for old-school Sierra gaming as well. I have a Pentium 200, 50 meg RAM, 1 ATAPI Creative CD-ROM (50x I think), Soundblaster 16, 3 1/2 + 5 1/4 drives, 1 350meg hard drive + 1 100 meg hard drive running Dos 6.22 + Win 3.11 for Workgroups. It runs great — I finally have all the gear/know-how to get my Sierra games running perfectly! And so much fun to build!

    I also have a 486SX, 25mhz, 8 meg RAM, 100 meg hard drive, Soundblaster Pro, 2x Proprietary Panasonic/Matsushita CD-ROM w/Interface Card, 3 1/2 + 5 1/4 drives.

    Both computers have slow, useless modems! Wish I could get them connected to the net with Winsock and surf in style!

    (re: King’s Quest 8: 800×600 resolution?)

    Well, the graphics are horrible anyway, and so is the game. If you love the other Kings Quest and adventure games in general, then don’t expect anything similar from this game. It almost doesn’t feature any characters from the old games, and the “feel” is completely different in this game. It’s more an action/RPG game than an adventure game, and it’s horribly boring. It also takes forever to load new “levels” as it has to copy a large file onto your harddrive every time you enter another area.

    (re: King’s Quest 8: 800×600 resolution?)

    800×600 was only available for certain separate 3DFX cards. You cannot get any more than 640×480 with modern graphics cards. You might look into some of the glide wrappers to see if you can simulate it.

    (Kings quest 8 resolution problems)

    I only have 640×480 available in my screen no matter which DDraw, 3d or whatever I pick the 800×600 is shaded out ..
    My computer can run games under 800×600 as that is usually the default resolution I play more demanding games with..

    Anyone can answer my problem??

    (re: re: Auction Sniper for sierra games.)

    I see what you are saying… but where does it end? If the bid goes to $102 then you would bid $103? You snipe auctions at the highest price you are willing to pay. So if $110 would cover it then you choose $110 and win the auction between $100-$109. Or bid $150 and win at $109 to be extra safe. Snipe at your highest proxy bid. It works very well for me. For example, Gmail accounts sell for $40-$85. I sniped two Gmail accounts at $30 each. I relisted 1 Gmail account and it sold for $84! I must have lost 12 Gmail account snipes because I set my snipe limit to $30, but I sold 1 of those Gmail accounts for $84. Sniping is a different practice altogether. 🙂

    Life is good,

    (re: Auction Sniper for sierra games.) Sniping is always controversial… disregarding that 5-second site, what if your maximum bid is $100? Now, you put in $100. Someone else also has a max bid of $100. You’re away and in the last minutes / seconds, that person bids $101. But, if you were there, you would gladly go $1 more (now a total of just $2 more than your “max” bid). So you really have to stay to the end of the auction to watch for that.

    Ah well… my eBay spending money is pretty much spent so I’ll probably remove my searches now. I’ve built up a great collection of stuff to help out my work on this site over the past few months, but I’m out of cash. I’ll have to start the processing work now so we actually see some cool stuff around here!

    (re: re: re: re: Sierra Game Remakes) King’s Quest 2 was rubbish to start off with. Even for a 10 year old (me when I played it), it seemed like a bunch of ideas and things copied from fairytales all thrown together to cash in on the success of Kings Quest 1. Luckily Kings Quest 3 well and truly erased the memory of how bad part 2 was. What they did for Kings Quest 2 was IMO awesome, and had the effect of getting a lot of attention in the gaming community for adventure games in general.As a big fan of KQ2, I feel I must step in to offer my view. For me, playing KQ2 for the first time (a few days after it was published — I have the 5 1/4 inch disk in a nice frame) was a revelation. The game world felt very vibrant and alive, and the plot/quests were fairly logical and fun. Man, the agony of finally being able to open that door on the island and then facing another one… Yeah, there’s a lot of faery tales in KQ2, but I think that worked out all right.

    KQ3 was a better game still. In fact, I feel every successor was a step up — until the seventh one, which I’ve never really gotten into, despite owning three copies ;). I have the eight one as well, and although I did play it to the end, it didn’t really feel like a KQ game.

    Excellent, Excellent!

    The game has been started and coming along nicely,

    Music would be great thats what I was looking for today actually, so help on that would be excellent, the types im looking for are much like Classical like when you walked up the clock tower to, the music in the hall on your way to the power generator room, And what is definatly needed, is a remix of the warning of the Ixupi.

    For all you People who wonder what this storyline is about, here is a small part, It stars Geoffrey Windlenot, After He’s been informed of his fathers Strange Death. So he basically takes over the museum now, this is were it gets more interesting another book has been discovered detailing more information about the ixupi. So the game is basically on recapturing the 3 Ixupi That got away, Except as we know the pots are now useless. So they have been reactivated by A shaman. There is much more detail to whats going to happen on this game but im not going to spoil it for everyone. But i’ll tell you this much, The game starts off in the museum, BUT…..only a small part of the game takes place there.

    Now this is where I go on about more staff, We have people helping out but if there is any fans out there willing to still help out on working on this game then send me an email attymich55@hotmail.com

    I believed the program we decided to use is macromedia flash,
    Anyone with experience in Photoshop is highly recommended if they’re willing to help out..
    People who have good experience in music or sound, we will Definatly love to hear from you because we need this game to be creepy.
    And most of all Anyone with ideas, The full story line isn’t offical so Please send me your suggestions also.

    (re: re: re: Sierra Game Remakes) Frankly, I wouldn’t. Remakes totally ruin the experience. After finishing the QG2 remake, they should stay well away from Sierra’s games. Especially after what they did to KQ2. That’s a funny view point seeing as King’s Quest 2 was rubbish to start off with. Even for a 10 year old (me when I played it), it seemed like a bunch of ideas and things copied from fairytales all thrown together to cash in on the success of Kings Quest 1. (re: hi) I am not exactly sure how to answer your comment as it’s a bit confusing, but I will try.

    This site is not related to the current Sierra. We are related to the history of Sierra when Ken & Roberta Williams were the founders and owners. So we are not involved with Sierra’s new PS2 or XBox games or with Sierra’s current logo.

    As for having a history of Sierra over the years, in a timeline form, that’s definitely a good feature idea to add to our Museum section.

    (RE: Mulholland Drive and David Lynch.) I understand David Lynch was partially involved with a computer game project called Gadget, which was some sort of slide-show based adventure game, like Myst or Riven. I can’t find out very much about it, and I certainly haven’t been able to get my hands on it. I’d love to see it.

    I found this site:

    http://members.aol.com/SWMoreTP/Collectiblesoftware.html

    Seems like pretty good evidence that it did exist. This site is dated January 2002. So they most likely do not have it for sale anymore.

    Here is a clip from the site:

    SIERRA
    Gold Rush (O4, Apple IIGS) – $20
    King’s Quest III (D5, Atari ST) – $20
    King’s Quest IV (O3, Apple IIE/IIc) – $15
    King’s Quest V (IBM CD in box) – $12
    King’s Quest V Hint Book (O4.5 by Sierra with Adventure
    Window) – $10
    King’s Quest IV (P4.5, Apple IIGS) – $19
    Official Book of King’s Quest, The (O2.5 by Sierra) – $19

    That’s a really cool site. Thanks!

    Thing is, I know the games I listed above existed, though I can’t find any box art or catalog scans to verify my claims.

    I was hoping if one of the Willaims still went through the message boards, they could clarify that these titles really were available for the platform. But truthfully, I’m willing to accept any kind of proof as alas, my old disks went the way of the dodo.

    If you have not already, take a look at this website.

    It has lots of the Apple II games, even for download.

    If it’s not there, there is still the possibility it was made.

    Yes, there is something called VDMSound. vogons.zetafleet.com is a big forum of DOSbox and any other kind of game running related problems. I wanted to play a game with the sound coming out of my speakers instead of the internal speaker and I downloaded VDMS and I did something with the config file? (It’s been awhile I can’t remember) but search the website and there should be acouple of topics about that. I actually asked that question in the forum and this is what other people responded to me:

    If that link doesnt work, just search for it. Hope this helps!

    ebay sniping is no different than hiring someone else to show up to a conventional auction for you and place your bid near the end. This keeps the price down overall… even in conventional auctions where the “not so serious” bidders quit early.
