ParticipantSo you used to have that version Rebecca? Are there any other differences you might recall, would you still have it by any chance? Aren’t posts that are comprised of nothing but questions rather irritating :p

ParticipantI played and liked both Betrayal at Krondor and Return to Krondor. They were both excellent games even though they were very different from one another. Probably because Return to Krondor wasn’t even supposed to be a Sierra title originally. They just happened to regain the rights to it for reasons that I’ve forgotten. Betrayal at Krondor is the kind of game that would greatly benefit from a remake. But it was satisfying back in the day feeling like you were traveling across a continent. Plus I liked those puzzle chests. Return to Krondor was more linear and didn’t allow as much exploration, but it still had a great story, a good combat system, and good graphics for the time. I think I’ve only read the Riftwar saga if that’s the one with Magician, Silverthorne, and those other books, so I was familiar with the setting and characters before Betrayal at Krondor came out. I wouldn’t include Antara with the Krondor series. It might be more true to Betrayal at Krondor in style and spirit, but it’s a completely different world that has no narrative ties to the Krondor games. I just wish someone would remake Betrayal at Krondor with the graphical power of a game like Oblivion or make new games based on the books.

ParticipantNote that Return to Kondor and Antara was made by Peter Sarrett — quite a different person and player pov.

ParticipantThat’s a good idea. Or even a number in parenthesis of how many are currently in.

ParticipantPrototype and F.E.A.R. publisher Sierra Entertainment has told GamesIndustry.biz it’s ramping up development of new IP and isn’t afraid to take more risks than its third-party competitors.
Speaking in an exclusive interview published today, the publisher says that it will develop and create new franchises based around the four genres the company has already established hit titles in – real-time strategy, open world, first-person shooters and kids’ games.
‘On top of these four pillars of genres we’re going to create original IP, and I would say we’re pretty solid in that direction compared to any other publisher,’ commented Martin Tremblay, president of Sierra Worldwide Studios.
‘We’re going to be up there with the big guys with regard to creating new franchises.
‘Compared to any other publisher at the moment, we’re the new one coming up in the console world. We will surprise a lot of people because our commitment to quality is absolutely there, and we’re taking a real step forward in terms of the balance of licensed titles, original IP and strong sequels,’ he said.
As well as establishing F.E.A.R. as a new first-person shooter franchise, Sierra has recently unveiled Prototype, an open-world action title from Radical Entertainment, the team responsible for the successful Scarface: The World is Yours.
Sierra is also polishing Sabre Interactive’s much-delayed shooter TimeShift for release this year as well as publishing kid’s movie tie-in The Spiderwick Chronicles in February 2008.
According to senior vice president of marketing Al Simone, there’s a real push from Sierra’s parent company Vivendi to generate new intellectual properties across the board.
‘Within the entire organisation, there’s an over-commitment to original IP which we fully embrace, even though there’s risk associated with that,’ he said.
‘Next year, we’re looking to bring original IPs probably at a pace that most third parties haven’t in the past few years.’

ParticipantI don’t want to discourage you, but to be honest, I seriously doubt you’d get anywhere trying to get Vivendi to sell you the copyrights. Not only would they not sell them, if they did, I’m sure the price would be astronomical. You should use your creative energy to create your own fantasy world / game idea in the spirit of the King’s Quest and Quest for Glory games.

Participantjm,
I didn’t see a message come through from you – I’m not sure what email you used to contact me – I’m currently running the archives. If no one else has spoken up for the game, I’d definitely like to put it for use for the archives.

ParticipantA monthly or even weekly gathering sounds like a good plan!
Maybe, ‘we’ can invite developers or game designers or other people working in the industry. Doesn’t matter if they’re professionals or peeps working on fan games…

ParticipantFor Conquests of Camelot… did you try gamefaqs? Both walkthroughs there have answers to the riddles. I liked solving the riddles though, that was part of the fun for me. Or you can go to replacementdocs.com and download the manual for it. I think the manual has hints for the riddles and other puzzles in the game.

ParticipantYou just found me!
Yes.. This site needs lots of work, and I don’t have time to work on it. I give it a try from time to time, but I’m on a boat in the middle of nowhere, with only a random internet connection. Catch me offline — at kenw @ seanet.com.
Thank you,

ParticipantHello Ken,
I’m interested in helping you maintain this website and upgrading it with the features many of your fans have been requesting. I have deep engineering and website dev experience.
No charge of course.
What’s the best way to get in touch with you?
Best,

I understand what you are going through. I have Sierra Championship Boxing and I was willing to donate it to the archive project but there was no interest in non-adventure games. I decided to keep it even though I do not have a 5.25 installed disk drive to run it with. Sierra had packed alot of documents on boxing that are still enjoyable to read.Good Luck with it, but don’t destroy it.

ParticipantEmail to the donation address didn’t get a response, so I’m sending it to the first person who contacted me personally.

ParticipantIf the archive doesn’t need it, I’ll definitely take it.

ParticipantDonating sounds good, thanks.

ParticipantIf you want to make some money off it, throw it up on ebay

ParticipantI have this game. Any collectors interested?

ParticipantI don’t think that particular person is ever revealed. I’m assuming it’s the person who killed most of the people. You see a silhouette occasionally through the windows while walking around the house. Maybe it’s the same person.
It’s a mystery! O_o

ParticipantHey MxCoder, I’ll try to answer a couple of your questions…
There isn’t a “yearbook” of Sierra staff perse, but for our archival projects, we are in touch with a number of former Sierra staff. I don’t like to mention our archive work because it appears from the outside world that nothing is happening. But stuff IS happening, and it’s very exciting. One day we will have lovely, lovely suprises for everyone. We are always looking to be in touch with more Sierra staff so if you’re out there and reading this, drop a line! In the meantime… well, I won’t promise anything until I actually have a spare moment to sit down and maybe put a few things together for you all.
I suspect, and I can’t remember who initially pointed this out – it may have been someone over at AGDI – that TSL may be having the same situation that AGDI is having with QFG2VGA. Which is, you can get a very stable product together and it can be great, but you still have to go through a very extensive bug-testing and fixing stage before that product is ready to be released to the actual public. TSL originally had release dates and such, but they’ve probably found themselves unable to keep to those dates since they obviously do want to put out as professional a product as possible, and that may still require a lot of work even once the product reaches playable stage. Perhaps someone from TSL who frequents here would comment?

ParticipantJoanne: I routed your message to Roberta, and received this response (don’t all couples email each other these days?)

I agree with her that Mixed-Up Mother Goose is a great program for little kids – it was ALWAYS good!
However, there is nothing that you or I can do about it. Perhaps you can forward her email on to someone at Vivendi?

ParticipantI updated the bridge link. For some reason it was pointing to the condor as well.
I remember now that in KQV the “roc” had two heads. What happens in the movie is that an earthquake causes the cliff under the actors to fall and ride their rock down the snowy hill. They hit a rock and get sent into the snow. The condor comes down and grabs the kid and a man shoots the condor down.
There is another movie “Chandu the Magician” that has a “death ray” that is similar to the “wand and cheese” machine at the end of KQV.

ParticipantDOSBox is the way to go. It’s allowed me to enjoy my collection of old games.

ParticipantThe two scenes seem only faintly similar. There were no condors in KQ5, though. A roc picked up Graham and carried him to its nest in KQ5, while a condor carried Graham to the island in the middle of the river in KQ1.

I was watching ‘In Search of the Castaways’ by Walt Disney and I noticed these scenes that are very close to the KQV scenes!
I didn’t think much until the kid was taken by the condor and another actor made the comment that the condor was taking the kid to its nest. In the movie, the condor gets shot down but in KQV the condor takes Graham to the nest. What do you think?
