You raise a good point. It would be nice to have a “SierraGamers.com” logo that fan sites / adventure game sites could use as a graphic to link here. I know Ken has graphics / layout guys already working on stuff around here, but there’s no reason you can’t go ahead and try something out if you’d like.

Thanks for your suggestions “Collector”,your suggestions worked! But I also figured out an easier solution,I installed Inca2 on my old trusty 386 pc and it worked perfectly, first try, with no tweaking at all!Its a 386dx pc with an isa soundblaster 1.0 card,8 megs of ram, 4x cd-rom,and only 512k of video ram!,runs on dos 6.22, and win 3.11.Figured I’d post this system ,so that other players can possibly gain help from it.KEEP those old pc’s!!!!!!!!!there’re fabulous for old games.I set the date on this 386 10 years ago and put it away, the time and date are RIGHT ON THE MONEY after all that time!!!,it even accounted for daylight savings!!Ahhh ,the good old days, when games practically installed themselves, not like todays pc’s.I didnt think the game would ever run on an old system like this,so i didnt bother, never say never!Thanx!!!

Well I’m pretty sure I didn’t get a copy of the book with my copy of the game, not sure why.

Participant(re: Sierra music as cell phone ringtones?) I have Betrayal at Krondor’s Malac’s Cross song as polyphonic ringtone. I had to “edit” it because the midi file I used included more voices than my phone could handle…
Still sounds great though!
I’ve included BaK Malac Cross at an attachment. I also attached the ringtones for PQ2, LSL2 and SQ3
Betrayal at Krondor – Malac Cross – Ringtone
Leisure Suit Larry 2 – Ringtone
Police Quest 2 – Ringtone
Space Quest 3 – RingtoneUnknown,Unknown
Participant(re: RAMA: Do any of you remember that one?) Does anyone know if the novel was included with all copies of the game, or was it just a limited edition promotional thing?
On a side note, I notice some on-line retailers are still carrying the game, e.g. CDAccess who sells it at $14.95 without the box and $19.95 with the box.

The Coktel Vision CD games seem to be very picky about the CD-ROM driver. They really want the old DOS “MSCDEX.EXE” driver. Try playing the game in pure DOS. You might also try making a boot disk to play the game (look on the Inca 2 CD, there is a folder called BOOTDISK.)

Participant(re: RAMA: Do any of you remember that one?) It is actually rather accurate. Of course, the book has a linear story consisting of primarily exploration, very little action. The game gives you a lot of freedom to explore and has loads of puzzles to make it interesting, but the story develops in pretty much the same way as it does in the book.
It would have to be pretty accurate, since the game shipped with the book in the game box. Anything wildly inaccurate would be very noticeable that way.Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: RAMA: Do any of you remember that one?)
It’s based off the second one. I don’t know how accurate it is (probably not very accurate)

Participant(re: RAMA: Do any of you remember that one?) Just for interest’s sake, which of the books is the game based on? I know it’s not the first one (Rendezvous with Rama).

Participant(re: Sierra music as cell phone ringtones?)
I use the Astro Chicken tune for my ringtone. It’s really quite easy. Most modern cellphones that play polyphonic tunes will accept MIDI files. Just infrared/wap/bluetooth a MIDI file to your phone and that’s it.

I think a really cool game idea would be if they made a game in the style of the movie Memento. Memento is a about a guy with short term memory who uses photos and tattoos to keep reminding himself that someone killed his wife and that he needs to get revenge. But the whole movie goes from the end and slowly works its way to the beginning. If they somehow did this with a game, I think it would be amazing (I mean the reverse thing, the tattoo and memory thing was sorta done in an awesome game called Planescape:Torment)

Gabriel Knight 3 was a horrible game? I thought it was pretty awesome myself.
I can understand why people hate King’s Quest:Mask of Eternity. I thought it was alright at the time, doesn’t compare to the other King’s Quest games though.

Participant(re: RAMA: Do any of you remember that one?) There were 4 Rama books
Rendezvous with Rama
Rama 2
The Garden of Rama
Rama RevealedI got the game when it first came out. I was about 8 and enjoyed it a lot because of it’s sci fi setting.
And Ken, if it makes you feel any better about the game, PC Gamer (USA) gave the game a 92% which is an awesome rating.

Participant(re: Gabriel Knight, error on Day 10) Hey Julie!
It’s good (sort of) to hear I’m not the only one having problems with this. But…I’m playing the game on an old 486 with Dos 6.2, which should in theory be the ultimate for playing sierra games from that period. But in case dosbox actually works better than the “real thing”, I’ll try it ð ThanksUnknown,Unknown
Participant(re: Sierra Quests on the Mobiles Link) Dear Richard,
Our intent is to continue the life of the great products on the new platform. We consider the phone as a small computer which is always with you, nothing more (to play classic Sierra games the reception on the phone can be switched off).
We target Series 60 smartphones including Nokia N-Gage, N-gage QD, 7650, 3650, 3660, 6610… Siemens SX1 and others.

Participant(re: Torin Passage used to be has a sequel plan ?) On page 74 (from 76) of Al Lowe’s Torin’s Passage design document one finds the following:
“Coming Fall ’97: The Lands Above II – Boppin’ Your Boogle!”
And if I remember correctly, a sequel was also mentioned in Interaction.
In my opinion, the game is somewhat weak though.

Participant(Mulholland Drive and David Lynch (and Philip K. Dick)) Paycheck was based on a Philip K. Dick story.
In my opinion, Dick is the greatest sci-fi author of the 20th century. He’s the ideas man. You read his stories and can’t help but marvel at the ingenuity crammed into them.
His books are kind of rare nowadays (at least, where I live), and they aren’t all good, but I can heartily recommend them to any sci-fi afficianado.
His overarching theme seems to be the all-too-human struggle with identity. Couple this idea with thoughts of “what makes one human?”, “can a machine be human?”, “when our cognitive faculties are in some way impaired, physically or psychologically, are we still human?”, and so on. And yes, I have to agree, many of his books and short stories would make GREAT games.

I actually bought the game when it was relatively new (shocking, I know…) It wasn’t that bad a game actually. The music and graphics were so wonderful that in certain areas I just stared at the scenery. Plus the actors cast in the roles were PERFECT, though seeing the young black woman (I forgot all the names), the old white guy and the 40 ish one with the beard and realizing that in the book she sleeps with both of them makes you shudder. Some of it was really annoying, ESPECIALLY the part where you are doing math puzzles to get up higher levels in a building, and some of them require calculus level math skills to do right, forcing me to use a walkthrough as I can’t even do Algebra. Arthur C. Clarke talking to you was a nice touch, but then later on when you die more often and you have to listen to the same speech over and over to 10 minutes, you just wish the robot would stab him.

Participant(re: Mulholland Drive and David Lynch.)
I have yet to see Mullholland Drive, but another film that would make a great adventure game is Paycheck. In it the main character *SPOILER* makes a machine to see the future, sends 20 items to himself that he’s going to need, destroys the machine because it will be used by the government as a weapon, get his memory erased, and every once in awhile gets in a situation where he uses one of the items. I kept wondering if it was based on a game.

Participant(re: Torin Passage used to be has a sequel plan ?)
It probably didn’t do well because it was being marketed as another King’s Quest, and when Al Lowe fans saw this they probably thought of it as just a cheap ripoff and stayed away. I would have myself if I hadn’t run out of games to play and it hadn’t been on sale. Too bad though, because it was a great game, full of the Al Lowe humor that I like but without the scantily clad women, thank God.

Participant(re: Why I liked GK1 best)
Yeah, I didn’t like how all you learn about Werewolves comes pretty much comes from one book in the castle. Then again, there aren’t exactly people who get their doctorate in studying it or any Werewolf museums around either. Maybe if it had taken place in a city that’s had werewolves, or at least crazys who thought they were like that case in the 1600’s (I think) where a guy confessed to being a werewolf and was burned at the stake. GK3 I HATED though. It wasn’t bad enough we had to learn where the Schattenjagers came from and have the mystery ruined, but it was a horrible plot device. Plus with Grace and Gabriel, can’t a woman and man be partners and stay platonic? Happens in reality all the time! It had lots of great ideas, a great setting, but just got lost along the way somewhere.

Participant(re: QFG5 on XP?) You have to update qg5 to v1.2. Then go to http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/7435/Goodies/Downloads.htm
and download the QFG5Win2k.zip file. Unzip the file into ur qg5 folder and run the file. After that u can access the game normally. If ur cursor does not display correctly – ALT-TAB to your desktop, and then maximize ur game again. Thats about all the issues related with Win2K/XP and QG5. Enjoy the game
