ParticipantHmm, never came across those kind of problems. I’ve played and completed KQ6 in DOSBOX. The game ran perfectly… Sorry

Don’t have my old laptop anymore, but I’ve created a dual boot with Win95 on my computer so that I can play all those great games that won’t run on XP or DOSBOX. Maybe you should consider creating a dual boot? Worked for me!
Anyway… Here are couple of Sierra links that might help:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/7435/Goodies/Downloads.htm = Quest for Glory game patches.
http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/ = other Sierra game patches.
http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9339&page=2 = Link to running KQ6 in DOS. Scroll down a little bit, there you will find a resource.cfg file that might work for you!
Good luck!

ParticipantHey, thanks! I ended up just skipping it and moving on, only to get stuck again later thanks to technical problems – after Minos breaks the prophecy stone the game freezes up rather than going to the cut-scene movie of the dragon rising, and it would seem that no amount of messing around with sound/video acceleration or other settings can fix it. So hell, I wouldn’t have been able to finish the game with all the points anyway, since finishing the game at all seems impossible!
*sigh* I really wish I could get my old win95 laptop to work again. It was good for playing old games without annoying issues, even if it wasn’t good for anything else! I haven’t been able to get KQ6 to work on my newer computer for a while either (tried VDMSound, DOSBox, messing with all kinds of settings and junk… but after installation, opening the game just manages to give me a suddenly appearing/disappearing window), which is odd because I played it a few years ago on this very same computer with no problems.

ParticipantIt’s been too long since I’ve played this game but I’ll try my best to help

I’ve found the following info in an old walkthru, maybe it will help?
Can’t remember is you need the grapnel to climb is so than the following info isn’t of much help

Breaking into Ferrari’s House
· Go to where the door is and climb the side of the building.
· Climb to the highest roof.
· Walk to the ledge and climb down to the next roof.
· Jump to the lower level.
· Jump across to Ferrari’s house.
· Sneak to the middle window.
· Try to open the window but the bars are rusted.
· Use the oil.
· Loosen the bars.
· Use your toolkit to open the window.
· Go inside.

ParticipantIdiots! That they are! I bought all the collections, once again. And the Police Quest Collection comes with the KINGS QUEST manual… what a mistake.
Anyone who doesnt have internet access or who hasn’t heard of http://www.replacementdocs.com would have been stuck. If you too bought the Police Quest collection, obviously you need the manual, you can get it from the web link above.
Stupid Vivendi.Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantThis again confirms that Vivendi is run by a bunch of idiots! I know they want to protect their products and stuff but why order a hold on an amazing fan project that will probably generate more revenues? Aren’t these fan games also responsible for the resurge of the Sierra collections? Even though everybody knows the new collections suck (bad compatibility, no manuals, games missing etc), they still bought the collections!
How can they not see that?

ParticipantWell perhaps i could help you. Please just explain what EXACTLY is the problem? Why does 2 walkthroughs not help? Are you stuck in the game?? Or did you find a glitch that prevents you from continuing??? I have finished Codename : Iceman about 5 times, so perhaps my knowledge could help? (im surprised 2 walkthroughs is not helpful to you)
oh sorry, i just saw the entire thread, so you stuck in the submarine? Where exactly in the submarine? I remember you had to play dice… or you had to win the submarine battle… or you had to get the scuba kit, and had to bomb that oil rig? (was it an oil rig)
and i felt that the scuba part, was probably the most difficult… trying to navigate around.A decent walkthrough, should provide all the answers. With regards to Conquest of Camelot, i love trying to solve the riddles, but if you still stuck, a walkthrough must help! I rememeber the one answer, was ‘Sieve’ 🙂

ParticipantIt is awful- Vivendi has totally thrown out the old direction of Sierra games, not even bothering to do anything with them… kind of like throwing them away in a closet and locking the door. But the fact they would, on top of that, prevent game fans from enjoying their favourite series is awful. Sierra fans helped to make a detailed Wikipedia history of Sierra, and at the end made pretty clear how Vivendi ruined their legacy- however, Vivendi obviously jumped into the fray and wrote up at the end of the entry how ‘positive’ their changes have ended up being and successful they are now. They clearly have no remorse over alienating all of Sierra’s original fans.

ParticipantI am devastated, we waited for 7 years. Only to be dissapointed ONCE AGAIN by Vivendi. (the most useless company ever)
My respect and “condolences” go out to Colin and the entire SQ7 team. Thanks for trying, thanks for all the hard work.
And quite frankly i hope Vivendi go bankrupt. (due to stupid tactics)BOYCOTT VIVENDI!

ParticipantShort of buying another one, no. You might try copying the disc to the harddrive and burning a new disc. I believe that the anthology is like the 3rd KQ collection, where several of the games are actually on the other discs. These you can install from the other discs.

ParticipantWell the 5 Days a Stranger series isn’t web-playable as far as I know, but in general yea I’d give those my highest recommendation for people looking to experience the old-school adventure style in newer games. The overall story is really well crafted. The first game takes place in present day, the sequel takes place like 400 years later, another of them takes place in-between, etc. Also one of them uses a text parser.
Two other phenomenal amateur adventure games are Pleurghburg: Dark Ages and Larry Vales 2 (play 1 first though). When I first played Larry Vales 2 a few years ago I got totally absorbed for a couple of hours, and when I finally took a breather I could have sworn I’d been playing a long-lost Police Quest or Leisure Suit Larry game.

ParticipantTry Cosmos Quest – http://www.cosmos-quest.com. Sci-fi adventure point and click game inspired by Space Quest. But it’s not online game.

ParticipantDefinately try the Ctho Mythos
http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm
The order is
5 Days a Stranger
7 Days a Skeptic
Trilby’s Notes
6 Days a SacrificeYou MUST give those games a play through. It’s testament to the fact that the adventure genre isn’t dead.

ParticipantI am sitting here in IT Database Systems class reading these post. Sierra pointed me towards the computer field too but it is sure taking some time. I wonder if more Sierra fans work their way into the VU Company if real change could happen with the games they produce? Less shoot-fest and more Adventure!

ParticipantI can fully relate to her sentiments. They echo the story of my own growing-up tale.
I too was affected by your games, all of which oriented my future studies and career aspirations. I went through a sleu of odd-jobs through college until I was able to land a entry-level job working for Blizzard Entertainment, a large video game company. Sadly it wasn’t my original dream of working for Sierra On-Line during the golden era, but living in California allows me to go see where it all I got started. I always wanted to live in the Oakhurst area, but haven’t had the chance to do so. But, I’m still working toward that dream, and hopefully one day I will achieve it. I am always doing my best to do all that I can to get there, and I wish everyone who reads this the very same. We all have dreams, and some that we hopefully all share. Hopefully the Sierra titles are a piece that shaped your everyday lives, for I know they were a crucial piece of mine.
Thanks Ken and Roberta for helping shape the future of generations to come.
Respectfully,

ParticipantHi Ken and Roberta, I wrote to you earlier this summer about my interest in Mixed-Up Mother Goose. I will be presenting this program as an exemplar in children’s media to my colleagues at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, in Professor Joe Blatt’s course entitled “Growing up in a Media World.” As part of my presentation I would love to include personal comments from you regarding the program’s development, objectives and success. I look forward to hearing from you again. If you could, please email me directly at clearyjo@gse.harvard.edu Sincerely, Joanne Cleary, HGSE Technology, Innovation and Education degree program.

ParticipantTotally, mine came in a black and grey box when I first got it. With the treasures on the cover. Another thing about that one over the updates is there would be a 6 note loop through the whole game. I always thought of them as birds chirping throughout the game as a kid.

ParticipantI would love to be a part of that chat. I am a big time adventure gaming fan

ParticipantHello Ken,
I tried you offline, but no response. Hope it wasn’t a spam filter issue. Had some interesting thoughts to share. I assume your having a great time sailing far far away from an Internet connection. If there is a better way to reach you, let me know. Perhaps we can coordinate a time for a brief chat. Might be more effective then the email back and forth.Best,

ParticipantHi… I’ve played Iceman using DosBox and followed two walkthroughs step-by-step – without success 🙁
I think that extrernal saved games might work in this matter, since I’ve tried it successfully with a different game (Space Quest 1).
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantFor Iceman, gamefaqs and replacement docs should help with that too. Plus make sure you’re using an emulator like DosBox to play the game at normal speed because the sub part controlled too fast for me without it. Just follow a walkthrough exactly and try a different one if you get stuck. I don’t think someone sending a save game will help since I think you need the save version of the game for the save game file to work.

ParticipantRare Sierra Computer Equipment FREE!!
I’m posing this from Craigslist.
‘
All this equipment came from Sierra On-Line Bellevue. It was liquidated
when they closed their office. Everything came from in use offices.
‘
If anyone is in the area and can pick this up, maybe there’s a goldmine on the hard drives? One can hope…-Tom.

Huge Lot of Computers & Monitors – Free

I need someone to take away this huge lot of computer equipment.
Mostly Pentium 2 & 3 class PC & 17′ Monitors.
Some older Pentium 2 class Servers, large machines.
All the monitors work.
Many PC’s are complete, some are in partial completion, all the equipment is in working order.
All this equipment came from Sierra On-Line Bellevue. It was liquidated
when they closed their office. Everything came from in use offices. There is probably enough to fill the floor of one of the largest U-haul trucks or more.
The entire lot is free to the person who can provide transport to
take it ALL away. The catch is that the older stuff must be taken first
if more than one trip is required.Anyone is welcome to visit and take a look at the equipment.

ParticipantI had them… The disks are too corrupt (I managed to acquire an old disk drive to read them), so I couldn’t recover the data 🙁
The “Lite Speed” part is the only significant difference I remember. I first played the game when I was about four (played being, hovering behind my brother and dad while they were playing), and I was confused by the “lite” speed thing. So when I played later versions and saw it had changed I noticed and was surprised. My brother and dad on the other hand didn’t remember that little detail, hehehe.

ParticipantThank you for your answer. About Camelot, I did try to use a walkthrough and the manual, but without success, since you have to answer ALL the riddles you’re receiving, and they seem not to be random. I haven’t use one of the Gamefaqs solutions which seem to have more riddle answers, so I’ll see if that could be a help.
Anyway, I’m more concerned about Codename: Iceman. I’ve tried to use several walkthroughs and the game manual in this case too, many times, but couldn’t pass the submarine part. So if someone has a saved game after this part, it would be a great help for me.
Unknown,Unknown
ParticipantHeh, and thus my backup plan comes into play.
We’ll see, I’d like to try this route first, and if it proves to be truly fruitless, well then, there you have it. But one never knows unless they try. Right? *shrugs and smiles sheepishly*~Analyse
