Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the version of SQ5 released in the Space Quest Collector’s Edition (the very first one, released in 1994 in the blue box) did in fact have voices; the collection was released only about a year after SQ5. I seem to very clearly remember the narrator reading the line, “My, what a wonderful smell you’ve discovered” when you open the door in the ship and dump garbage all over the floor. Perhaps Sierra decided to focus on the Collector’s Edition and put the voice version of the game in that, since it was released so quickly.

Here’s my guess: Edgar/the Troll King intended to pull only Rosella through. Edgar goes around at the beginning of the game addressing Rosella as “Princess”, and the other trolls, Malicia, and Oberon and Titania probably learn from him that she’s a princess, since he knows her already. I don’t recall her ever introducing herself as a princess, and I do remember that Dr. Mort Cadaver addresses her by her name only, without any title.
Valanice, on the other hand, came through by accident, and there’s really no reason for her to go around advertising herself as a queen, since it takes her quite a while to encounter any sort of kingdom-like area, as opposed to Rosella, who starts out in the troll kingdom.
As for the flowers? I have no clue. I don’t think I’ve gotten either of them eaten by the flowers since my first run through the game ten years or so ago.

There is, in fact, a team of people working on a King’s Quest IX in order to wrap up the story, and it looks very promising: http://www.kqix.org. (I’m just ticked because I missed the voice auditions for it by about 2 months…) I’ve also heard rumors of a fan-created Space Quest 7, but I haven’t tracked it down yet…

I just wanted to ask if you have uploaded somewhere the complete manual coz I believe this one is partial,it goes till page 46 but the table of content says the manual ends in page 56.(and the dino bit in page 49)
so im just wondering if its possible to get the complete manual.

Brad and his partner in crime Jason have been working hard on the Sierra magazine project and they have been making great progress. The project is well and alive. That’s all the news for now. Rest assured it is happening.
There is now a master list in the musem under “Sierra Magazines / Catalogues”. The catalogues aren’t added yet but if you have any amendments or additions to the magazine list, let us know. The list will shortly become a picture-list with the covers, and the catalogues will get added too, at which time I’ll announce again and ask for your input regarding the catalogues.

Haha I kinda wondered where the post went…Yea I was thinking all those things to…But the reason why I thought it was interesting is why would someone want me to shutdown the game. and why would sierra even be interested in restarting a game from 7 years ago espically when they have much more successful games out there like continuing the kings quest series…it didn’t make sense to me and you’d think they’d ask someone like Marcia Bales To take part in it but she hasn’t even heard of it….so it doesn’t make much sense to me.

Do not open 2 SierraGamers.com windows. Either ctrl-a ctrl-c your message before you post it, or compose it in notepad first. I’m sure this is on Ken’s to-do list (allowing to have multiple windows open). However, there’s no solution to losing the message which can still sometimes happen (I’ve lost messages on hotmail or on my ISP webmail as well, due to a timeout, and then going back to the page the editor is empty) – you just have to take precautions when you’re writing a long message.
(re: Peasent’s Quest – The Game) Peasant’s Quest is brilliant! Homestarrunner is a very popular site and it would be really cool if it sparks interest in the older games, justifying Sierra rereleasing these old games through downloads or retail.
On a sidenote I’ve always been trying to get my brother into the Homestarrunner site and the humor. And he never paid much attention to it but he played through Peasant’s Quest and thought it was a riot. That being said, I hope that Trogdor never burninates Daventry.
I’m curious, any word on what Roberta thinks of this game?
(re: Is email notification not working?) This was a comedy of errors (actually a horror story).
I use an independent company to send the notification emails every 5 minutes. Apparently sometime in the last 24 hours they stopped sending them, without telling me. I assume their system is down, hopefully it will be back tomorrow.
My first thought was that the problem was mine. I was looking everywhere to see why the emails weren’t going, and decided to implement some performance fixes while I was in the code. In so doing, I broke something. It was a MAJOR mistake, and resulted in 1,000+ emails going out. Horribly embarrasing, and a nuisance for those who received them.
I believe I understand what happened now, and why it won’t happen again — but, am worried about what the story is with the independent company that caused the problem in the first place (

This morning (Sat Aug 7) around 8 am I received a whole ton of messages in one email: 51560 – 51654 (if anyone else got the same thing and less emails in it, don’t worry, some of those emails were in restricted areas of the site).
However, I haven’t received messages that have been posted since then – but I did get some very strange emails from the site that I made some time ago to first try out talkspot features (earth2), including 2 emails with copy of message 51663 from this website (“immediate update of new messages… Sierra On-Line Fan Site”) even though the From address was from my test website (earth2), and then a third email telling me, as admin, that message 51663 had bounced from someone’s email address. Let me know if you want to see those emails and if so I’ll forward them.

Is it possible it’s a prank? Walt Whiman is a poet… of course, it’s possible there’s someone at Sierra with that name. However, since Sierra has been dissolved into VU, I expect they would say this is a message from VU, not from Sierra Council. Lastly, I should think they would email you and not just post it on your message board, to make sure that you get the message – also, an email would allow you to reply to them.
That is only my opinion. Perhaps Ken, or others more knowledgable in legal matters, would advise further.

This is a known problem with the cracked version of the game when you play with the game speed turned up. Just turn the speed down.

I’ve tried, and I’ve tried, but I can not reproduce that problem. Have you tried running the game in DOSBox?
(re: New Messages list – where are all the new messages?!) A few things seem to be acting up. As I mentioned, I’m not getting email notifications. So this truncated list might be also acting up.
You aren’t missing any messages though Emily. There hasn’t been much posted yesterday or today.

Maybe if you could remake SQ5 in new 3D or at least 13-bit colour, and voice overs, even in the SQ5 hintbook, Dynamics sayed that they were going to make a CD-version of SQ5 with voices.
