EcoQuest 1 was a good game, and it became even better with the cd version, the voice actors were great.

But still EcoQuest 2 is far more superior than the first part in my opinion.

I’m just sad that there was no cd version of EcoQuest 2 ever made…

    (re: Ecoquest CDs)

It was never released on cd.

Although there must have been plans for it, because the diskette version features those certain legendary voiced lines like “This place is a sewer.”

(re: Police Quest collection – European (incl. question for Ken)) Hey Øystein,

I do have the Police Quest Collection myself, bought in my home-country, of Denmark. So I guess I would have the european version too, but I dont have any problems with it. All codes, maps etc. Are in my copy πŸ™‚

Btw. if you wanna play PQ3 you might wanna download some of the patches for it. Including:
Speed patch (so you can drive without it going way to fast on a new computer)
Pentagram patch (fixes some kind of bug, so its easier to make the pentagram)

    You can download them here:

You also do not see your message immediately after posting it, it just shows up blank as described above.

Furthermore, when in the list view of posts, when you click on a post that might be on page 3 in the close-up view, when it goes to the close-up view it just goes to the top of page 1.

(re: Sierra’s Game Creation Software) Sierra used lots of different tools through the years – so there is no easy answer to this.

In the early days we had our own art tools. For the adventure games, we primarily used an animation editor/sequencer that we called “the view editor” which was somewhat like the editors used for animating gifs today. I believe we had some amount of inter-frame compression, but not much. It was essentially a tool for sequencing a series of animation cels.

For 2d animation, towards the end, we would pencil sketch the animation, then use Photoshop to do the painting. For 3d, we used 3d Studio Max.

As to the project that we are going to build, I see a couple of steps:
We need to decide if we are 2d or 3d
We should look around to see what is available in todays world — and, what we can get for free, or cheap

I totally agree with that theory. People won’t pay to get bored. One game that could be fun but got me disconnected after a while was Myst. Everywhere you turned there was a puzzle to solve. It’s challenging at the beginning but get too much after a while. Of course this is my opinion. An exemple of a  good balance of puzzle and fun is probably Diablo 1 and 2. This game got me hooked up because of the music, the atmosphere, the puzzles, the general theme of the game. Easy as it can seems, I believe you got something that some games companies somehow lost in their way to the “publish-for-money” modern game business.

You’re thinking of Space Quest IV. I have that collection and it doesnt have voices on V.

(re: Leisure Suit Larry LP?) I work as an assitant on a private research, conducted by a media expert. Most of the work, as I said, is going over old papers in the national library of my country (Israel). I can’t go into details about the research, but it has nothing to do with anything as interesting as computer gamimg, I’m afraid πŸ™‚

Still, when I do come across interesting stuff, I take notice. In fact, this is the second time I came across a reference for Larry. The first was a 1989 article about kids and sex-related sofware. The first Larry game was discussed there, though I think the reporter actually wrote about what she heard from the kids she interviewed, rather than checking the game herself – if she had done so, I think she would have realized that the game’s tone was far less extreme than what she described.

In comparison, the review I mentioned above was a lot more balanced, noting that the game was more about gags than about sex, and that it would actually fit anyone who’s above 13.

(re: Leisure Suit Larry LP?) Hmm… I haven’t heard about this. Perhaps someone else knows?

But I wanted to ask you, where are you working as a research assistant? What are you researching? Also, what kind of stuff are you accessing? Stuff like reviews or anything else you’re looking at may very well be of interest to us here. It’d be great to hear from you, you can click on my name and then my email address in my profile to email me.

Let’s see if I can work the file attachments here. This should be the Current Inside Copy video clip, a “documentary” about Space Quest series that came with the Space Quest collection CD. This came up in some discussions and Ken Williams said he’d never seen it. And since it seems like nobody’s uploaded it here I thought I’d give it a shot.
Current Inside Copy in .avi format, size about 70 MB.

Say, there’s an idea! Instead of reading all about werewolves from a book, Gabriel could visit some guy in an asylum who was convicted of a murder he claims he did because the victim was an alpha werewolf who had bitten him.

As I said to those who had inquiries, once I hear from them, I’ll let you know. The problem is that none of their website emails obviously go to them, that I can see at least. I’ve got another email off that will hopefully reach them directly.

I really hope this game does well. I heard that at least Microsoft will be looking forward to LSL:MCL’s sales to decide if a new Tex Murphy game would be viable.
