Thank you for advertising your game on Sierra Gamers website — and for using my thread to do it. Why not start your own thread? BTW, the more the merrier. If you don’t like the way I make games it’s always best to make your own!

    Steven,

    Who are you?

“Wow. I cannot believe Jodo is still expunging his crap all over the internet. It’s okay to want to make games, and be innovative, but I think you’re crazy! You speak in future-past perspectives and you assume too much about people, and you obviously do not know who holds copyright sway in the world.

Work on something worthwhile. Put some reall effort into something else.”

    … I don’t think Steven!

    Anything else?

This is Jodo by the way.

Once again you stalkers are bothering me on the Internet.

In any other medium, you would be ignored so the rest of us can have some fun! For instance, I offered a few positions where you could help out. You just want to bug people. You bug the people who are programming Quest for Glory 2 Remake and KQ2 VGA remake, and you are bugging me.

Right now we are looking at publishing the game only on the Net; you visit the website and you play the game online. Your saved games will be online. This way we can control who plays for free and who must pay.

“Fans” of the genre like Broomie will have to pay because they provide nothing but grief. Other people have provided screenshots and software and sound effects — they just want to see the game made.

Nothing you do to try to stop us will work. You can keep trying though, as I still find it hilarious!

Oh god not this guy again. Jodo, there is no LBCBR 2004 remake, it’s not in the makes, not on Kazaa, nowhere! So why do you carry on with this? I must admit reading your posts makes me laugh, trying to look serious. Heh.

lol, I tried it (I used an GBA emulator, because I dont have a flash link and card) and it takes some getting used to, but it’s really cool, if they had bought the idea and used it, I would’ve bought the games…

Vivendi’s Leisure Suit Larry banned in Australia

    Rob Fahey 15:25 12/10/2004

Vivendi Universal Games’ forthcoming adventure title Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude has been denied certification by Australia’s main classification body, essentially banning it from sale in the country.

The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) took exception to the portrayal of sexual activity in the game, particularly in light of “obscured or implied sexual activity and obscured and partial nudity involving stylised animated characters.”

The game, which has been given an 18+ rating under the PEGI voluntary classification system in Europe, follows the misadventures of the eponymous Larry as he stumbles through various romantic and sexual encounters in university.

The decision of OFLC to ban the game from Australian shelves follows only weeks after the increasingly censorious board decided to revise its original judgement on Manhunt, withdrawing classification on the game (and thus banning it) after having originally granted it an MA15+ certificate.

(re: re: re: larry 4) *re-reads post* whoops.. I read it too fast 😛

in that case.. since Larry found Patti at the end of Larry 3, and he’s women-crazy again in Larry 5, Larry 4 could be about his evil twin brother taking over his life from Larry 5-7. Then in Larry 9, we can find out Larry Lovage is the son of the evil Larry.

    ok, ok, maybe not 😛

Thanks but I know this story, dear Julie… my question is story-concerned: if we are to make a Larry biography or timeline, what events should we ‘fit’ in the time during lsl4?

South Africans can pick this up from http://www.take2.co.za for R231 (between $30 and $35 for the Americans reading this). Shipping is R29 anywhere in South Africa. That’s a bit expensive, so I havn’t bought it myself and thus can’t give my opinion. However, clearly there are others who would heartily recommend it. 🙂 Take note: many other reasonably priced games are available from that site as well. Including the Great Empires Collection (Caeser 3, Pharoah + Cleopatra expansion, Zeus + Poseidon expansion) for only R82. Emperor isn’t included, but you can buy that separately for R45.

(re: Which of 3 GK games you liked more and why) In my opinion, if GK1 is a 9 out of 10, then GK2 is an 8 out of 10, and GK3 is a 7 out of ten.

For me, this is simply an issue of storytelling. GK1’s background story was presented in a more interesting and stimulating fashion than the other two. I tend to think that this was a planned decision on Jane Jensen’s part, i.e. that she actively sought to remove some of the ambiguity surrounding her subject matter (GK1 = occult/voodoo, GK2 = Gabriel’s heritage/werewolves, GK3 = religion/vampires).

Like another poster on these boards has said, I feel that the player’s perceptions is far more guided with the last two with regards to how he/she is supposed to see or perceive the subject matter (i.e. good, evil, etc.).

In other words, unlike GK1, with GK2 and GK3, the player is told how to feel about certain subjects to a much greater extent, as if Jensen wanted to impress her views on the player.

Of course, I could be talking total nonsense here. 🙂 I’m still a big fan of the series (GK1 is on my top ten list of favourite adventures, for sure) and would love for Jane Jensen (and ONLY Jane Jensen!) to design and develop another one.

Woah! The creators of this fucking retarded piece of sh… crap need to get laid badly – I played the demo about half a minute and it already was way too much for me. There’s nothing about Leisure Suit Larry in it.

Shadow of Destiny is a wonderful game. Of adventure games that came out recently, it’s my favorite.

I really liked how it plays with well known elements of adventure gaming — like death and timed sequences — and also how complex the story is.

Yes this is a great game, in fact i really need to pick it up again. Its out on ps2 and pc should be under 20$ for either version because unfortunatly i Dont think it ever sold very good. The game involves alot of time travel as you try and uncover how you died, there are also about 8 or more different path through the game depending on how you make decisions through the different time periods. I would higly recommend anyone to pick this game up if you get the chance because it is a very very unique game with a great story line.

Can you imagine if GK2 was made nowadays? With DVD-quality movies and on-location sets? I think the overall feel would be amazing.

(re: Sierra Merge) I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

I don’t believe the problem regarding the matter of acquiring Sierra has as much to do with money (I reckon you could do it at relatively low cost), as with the matter of exactly WHAT you will be acquiring.

    Consider the following:

There is no physical Sierra anymore. In other words, you won’t be acquiring any physical assets, e.g. hardware, software, facilities, etc.
The people who built Sierra from 1979 to its peak period, which I believe to have been the early nineties, have all moved on. You won’t automatically acquire their services by acquiring “Sierra”.
The Sierra name, though carrying a lot of weight during the Ken & Roberta period of ownership, is today worth very little. The way I perceive it, “Sierra” has these last few years degenerated into being nothing more than a label splashed on to boxes by Vivendi Universal. Sierra has become a kind of generic game publisher with no identifiable identity or core product (both qualities the old Sierra had in spades). In fact, if you take a look at current or upcoming V.U. published games, you’ll notice that very few actually carry the Sierra logo, in other words the name weighs very little nowadays.
Adding to the above point, since the mid nineties the Sierra name has been stuck on to A LOT of mediocre titles. So probably you are chiefly after the famous Sierra properties from the eighties and early nineties – King’s Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, Gabriel Knight, and so on. Consider however, that these titles aren’t that well-known anymore. Sure most of them are brilliant properties, but also consider that you would have to in effect in each case RESTART or REBUILD the franchise. And that brings me back to my second point – would you be willing to do this without the original creators and developers involved? Because I certainly wouldn’t buy a Larry game not designed by Al Lowe. And I still consider any Police Quest without Jim Walls as pure sacrilege. (Whatever happened to Sonny and Mary, Jim? Did they happily grow old together? I NEED TO KNOW!!!)

I’m as huge a fan of Classic Sierra as anybody. I love adventure games. So even taking all of the above into consideration, YES, if I had access to the funds, I’d buy Sierra from V.U. in a heartbeat. This would be contingent on getting all the classic properties in the sale.

After acquiring the name and intellectual property that goes with it, I’d hunt down all the folks that made the company great. Then I’d lock them all into a single room (because two heads are better than one!) and leave them to play the best adventures released since Sierra’s sale in 1996. That way they can quickly get up to speed on what people are currently doing and what adventure gamers have come to expect.

And yes, as owner I’d include my own original franchise on the development slate. (But wouldn’t we all?)
