    >I will only buy a cellphone when these criterias are reached:
    >- Cellphone reception is as clear as a rotary pulse telephone.
    >- Cellphone can be heard by every tower no matter where you’re at.
    >- Cellphone charges come under the price of owning a home telephone line.
    >- Cellphone companies take out all the stupid ‘bells and whistles’ that you are billed extra for.

Well, here in Finland all those criterias are already met with. It’s even feared that normal phone lines will become useless here since it’s much more cheaper to get a cellphone. For example my monthly phone bill is about 19 euros (’bout 25 dollars), the same thing with normal phone line was about 36 euros (47 dollars) per month.

The sound is much more clearer than your normal pulse phone and you can talk pretty much everywhere you want, unless you’re way underground.

To make him stop you have to have Valanice stand directly in the middle of the dirt path. It looks like he’s going to run her over, but he won’t, he stops just in time and she’ll give him the skull. It took me several tries to get this too.

And be sure to use Adobe Reader 6.0. There’s bits of text that don’t show on earlier versions.

    >What about the Lytton Police building that differs in every sequel? I hate inconsistencies in sequels!!

Maybe Lytton PD decided that they needed to reinvent themselves.

Well your post is a few months old by now, but on the off-chance you’re still around here’s a reply.

Ken never did get back to me with digital copies of Roberta’s design documents. However, I did see a few that she still had, and basically they are just like a script for a movie, but way longer. Every background is described, every character action and response is described and all possibilities for interacting with objects, other characters or the environment are all planned out.

Now I’m sure different designers had different ways of doing things. Al Lowe, for example, said once that he never wrote the dialogue down for some of his games until he actually typed it into Sierra’s development tool programs.

Anyway, I would recommend you visit Al Lowe’s website AlLowe.com. He’s posted online design documents for some of his Larry games, Freddy Pharkas, and Torin’s Passage. They should give you a good idea about game design and they’re also just really cool to look at.

Thank you very much for the compliment! I’m flattered. I’m hoping the people here are enjoying the story as much as yourself. And I’m doing my best to bring nice artwork to the site 🙂 Make no mistake though, I can’t draw a straight line. I’ve outsourced that work!!! Anyhoo… if anyone has any comments, or would like to see specific perils, let me know 🙂 That’s my specialty 😉

I’m excited to see what they’ll come up with this time, considering the great job they did with the KQ1 and KQ2 remakes.

I have some excellent new Sierra games up for sale. Some of them are BRAND NEW and sealed. Take a peek and tell me what you think of my auctions as well! I spent a few hours designing them in Sierra style! 😉

    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQcatrefZC6QQfromZR7QQnojsprZyQQnojsprZyQQpfidZ0QQsacategoryZQ2d1QQsassZeriqchangQQsatitleZQQsinceZ30QQsofindtypeZ15QQsofocusZbsQQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsosortorderZ1QQsosortpropertyZ1

I do NOT sell any value or FAKE SLASH versions of Sierra games. All of my games are from my own personal collection or games that I have purchased/played and am reselling. They have each been inspected and carefully handled. From one collector to another!

Oh! And I guess I should note because some other people have… THIS IS A NON-SMOKING GAME! LOL. I don’t smoke and my boxes don’t smell like smoke. EYUCK. Have you EVER purchased a Sierra game and smelled the box from a smoking-home environment. Totally gross.

Here’s some screenshots of my auctions. Click on the link above to check them out and bid on them! Make momma proud and bid high with confidence my Sierra friends!

I never got that damn puzzle becouse when I played KQ for the first time I had no idea about the English name of Rumplestiltskin, I of course was familiar with the tale he is in but in Icelandic, Rumplestiltskin is “Lendabrekkustaur” so you can see the confusion on my end 😉

And of course when I finally got around to get help, I wasn’t sure if the walkthrough was making fun of the reader with how to solve it.

But still it was a clever puzzle, and actually forced to you think.

The CD that I have is the Sierra Originals version. It has acrobat reader (Windows and DOS versions) for a PDF of the copyright protection, some preview AVIs for Betrayal In Antara, Lighthouse, Phantasmagoria 2 and the Quest for Glory Anthology. It also has a silly little program called “Larry Pops Up!” Here is from a text file included — USERGUID.TXT:

    Larry Pops Up! Users Guide

    12 March 1996

Thank you for installing Larry Pops Up! (LPU) Sierra has spared no expense
in creating this amusing software product, using only the finest materials and
old-world craftsmanship. Properly maintained, LPU should give you years of
trouble-free entertainment. Harsh abrasives will mar its hand-rubbed finish.
An occasional swipe with a soft lint-free cloth should be all that is
    necessary.

    Here it is (6.83 MB)

I believe AGDI’s contribution to the gaming industry is rather over-inflated. Regardless, I still appreciate the amount of work they put into their projects. And I am keeping an eye on Al Emmo’s development.

Regarding the realisation that gamers can finally make their own games, I don’t think that’s quite right. Gamers have always been able to make their own games. That’s where the whole industry was born – with people sitting in their bedrooms making games until the wee hours of the morning. Just consider the likes of David Braben, Geoff Crammond, Archer Mclean, Peter Molyneaux, etc. And I’m pretty sure Ken and Roberta would have something to add about that early to mid-80s period as well.

However, if you are talking about modern-day gamers creating their own games independently, then I would agree that Chris Jones, and generous folks like him, have indeed greatly assisted non-programmers (like myself) in fullfilling their ambitions. AGDI is however only been one group (of many) that has prospered from the emergence of these (relatively) easy to use engines/tools like AGS, Wintermute, etc.

Anyway, I don’t mind if we all hold different points-of-view on the matter. After all, debate is healthy! And regarding paying $50 for a game (that translates into a lot of money down here, by the way) – I just about never buy a game (of whatever type) at full-price. I don’t believe in software piracy either. I’d rather go to the trouble of looking for bargains and good second-hand deals. Even with brand new games, if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, I can guarantee you you’ll find them on special somewhere (in this country at least).

Are you using a flat panel monitor? By full screen, I take it that you edited the line for full screen in the nagi.ini file (full_screen=1) and not the Windows compatibility mode for 640×480.

I moved your question under Games Chat / King’s Quest.

I think that the cover art for KQ3 was done by John Shaw. I don’t see his signature on it (might be covered by the labels), but it looks like his style.
