ParticipantHi David;
Virtually every Sierra game can work under the latest version of Windows. Check out the Sierra Help Pages first at http://www.sierrahelp.com to check for updates, patches, or other modifications to make your games work.
Also be sure to check out ‘Good Old Games’ where you can buy old Sierra games for anywhere from $2.99 – 9.99 each (and sometimes, a collection of games for under $10). These games are exactly the same as you remember them except they have been modified to run under Windows XP/Vista/7. Right now many Sierra games are on sale, too. Check out http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue#all_genres/search/sierra/

ParticipantThat’s good to hear Michael! Maybe they will eventually get to have the entire Sierra catalog available. I think it would do very well 🙂

ParticipantSo how does GOG get these games to work? Do they run in a Virtual Machine or do they tweak the code to enable it to run on modern OS’s?

ParticipantMichael: I did the same thing when I received my e-mail from GOG this morning!
It is strange to see the games listed under ‘Activision’ since they have sold all Sierra property to Electronic Arts.(No, they didn’t… never mind!)Andy: Unfortunately, the only Impressions games GOG currently has are the Lords of the Realm series and Lords of Magic. I really hope they release Impressions’ city-building series as I’ve had a real challenge trying to get them to run on Microsoft’s latest and greatest OS.
The whole concept of GOG is executed very well. If I didn’t already own these legendary titles I would download from this site without hesitation. And you can’t beat the price! 🙂

ParticipantI agree with Rudy.
However, Dan’s concern is valid and this is why Sierra offered players the option of playing a censored version of the game which omits that scene entirely. Roberta has been asked about this scene numerous times and says that she doesn’t regret the scene because it fit the story so well.
If the scene were that offensive, I’m sure Phantasmagoria would have received the Ao (Adults only) rating which is a higher rating than M (Mature).

ParticipantI just wanted to comment and bump this up because it is a GREAT site for Manhunter! The Manhunter series was too creepy for me to play as a kid so at 27 I finally played it last summer. The games are fascinating because they break free from the elements of Sierra’s traditional adventure games of the time. The player is forced to put a lot of the story together on their own which I really like but some parts were too open-ended for me to connect all the dots. manhunter.talkspot.com has a FANTASTIC Summary page for each game that deails exactly what is going on in both games, it helped me out a lot after finishing each.
The worst part of the Manhunter series is knowing that we’ll never get the third or fourth chapter and never know how the Orbs may have been defeated, and who Phil really is!

ParticipantColonel’s Bequest.net is an AWESOME site! Any chance you’d make one for Dagger of Amon Ra?
One of my favorite series, I really wish there was a push for Laura Bow III.

ParticipantGlad to see the GK4 Campaign is still going strong. Now that Electronic Arts owns the Sierra name and all related property it will be interesting to see what they plan to do with it.
My hope is that Grey Matter is a huge success and EA will at least consider working with Jane on a fourth chapter to the GK series 😀
