      Does anybody remember this game?

Yes! I have it!…I never really finished the game because I was about 12 at the time. I always ran into dead ends. I suppose I should try playing it again now that I have more patience 🙂

I have it, haven’t played it yet. I’m planning to someday though. I heard there are some speed problems on newer computers.

(re: Willy Beamish) Pretty fun game. I always played it with a friend when I was younger at his house. Now, when I play it on my computer today, I can never figure out how to get past the chef! That may be a speed problem?

I never liked this game much, even as a kid. It contains some VERY annoying timing based puzzles where you have to do something at exactly the right time or you have to wait for something to happen before you can do something else in order to progress. I hated these sort of puzzles. KQ4 had them too, which is why I never finished that game. (Of course KQ4 was also dissappointing in some other ways, but that’s another topic.)

I haven’t played Willy Beamish yet, but can you give an example of the kind of puzzle in KQ4 where you had to wait for something to happen before you could do something else? I’m not sure I know what you mean.

I do remember the “real time” aspect of KQ4 making me *think* I had to wait for night to come before I could progress. I figured out how many minutes on the clock in the haunted house equalled how many minutes in real time, then left my game running by itself for a certain amount of time until night came. That was such a trip… it was the first game with the day / night cycle, and I loved how the scenes looked different at night (shadows, lighting, etc.) than they had in the day.

It turned out that there were things I had to complete during the day after all, and I restored a saved game. I also almost reached the end and had to play the game through again from the very beginning because I had shot the second of Cupid’s arrows into the air earlier in the game and, of course, couldn’t get it back. Dunno why, but dead ends like that didn’t seem to bother me when I was 10 the way they do now! Maybe I just had more patience then…

A very irritating speed problem. I think you need to use one of those programs that will slow your computer. I’ve been using MoSlo for some older games, like Traffic Department 2192(?) I alwys forget the year. Unless you purchase the upgraded version though, you can only use it on .exe or .com files. So if you have to run a .bat (like I did in Quest for Glory) I might recommend you look for something called CPUKiller and try that for a “quick fix”. (Literally, you only get like 20 minutes, so better hurry!)

Have you tried it in DOSBox?

Now this brings back memories. Ironically I was nine years old myself when I got this game. Willy Beamish had definitely one of the cooler manuals out there. I read once from a gaming magazine that a sequel was planned where Willy & pals would’ve reached their teens. Too bad that never happened. I would’ve liked to see an older Willy and Dana make out.

I love Willy Beamish! Dynamix games kick some serious heinie. For a “kid’s” game, like Eco Quest, it covers serious issues and is thoroughly entertaining.

Yes, the Chef Childish sequence is a timer bug, as is the Tavern calendar sequence, and the final battle sequence.

Really sad that the sequel wasn’t made! It was more than planned, I saw pictures once. Can’t for the life of me find ’em though..
Nice post, Timo, I totally agree. 🙂

Man! Beamish was awesome! Wish I still had my copy. Can anyone help me get a copy?

Your best bet is to find a copy on eBay. I was lucky to find a factory sealed copy there.

Care to send a downloadable copy my way?

Though Ken hasn’t made a definitive rule about copying games here, I’d prefer that everyone and their dog didn’t start asking for people to send them different games.

It really isn’t hard to find most games on eBay, and if you aren’t a collector looking for a super-nice copy, they shouldn’t be too expensive.

There are also other places selling Sierra games, such as Ye Old Infocomme Shop for example. I’m pretty sure the Shop has a decent copy of Willy Beamish for sale:

If you just want to download something, you can probably also find it fairly easily using Google. I’m not going to reply to your Eco Quest thread asking the same thing. The same answer applies.

Okay, okay. I can respect that. It sucks that I got rid of all those awesome games. Oh well. Thanks man. You’ve definitely been more than helpful. Much appreciated.

I loved that game. One of my favorites from back then. What the hell happened to Dynamix, there were some awesome games.
