Gabriel Knight 3 I think was the best because of it’s historical issues. Of course i love the history of the Templars. The only thing that i did not liked was on sidney when i was translate the 2 manuscripts. The game is saying that is in Greek language but its unknown because i am Greek and that time i was pissed off

GK2 was by far the best.  Game of the year.  It showed how to use video to make a good game.  Unfortunately using video means hiring actors and the costs are to high.

Can you imagine if GK2 was made nowadays? With DVD-quality movies and on-location sets? I think the overall feel would be amazing.

(re: Which of 3 GK games you liked more and why) In my opinion, if GK1 is a 9 out of 10, then GK2 is an 8 out of 10, and GK3 is a 7 out of ten.

For me, this is simply an issue of storytelling. GK1’s background story was presented in a more interesting and stimulating fashion than the other two. I tend to think that this was a planned decision on Jane Jensen’s part, i.e. that she actively sought to remove some of the ambiguity surrounding her subject matter (GK1 = occult/voodoo, GK2 = Gabriel’s heritage/werewolves, GK3 = religion/vampires).

Like another poster on these boards has said, I feel that the player’s perceptions is far more guided with the last two with regards to how he/she is supposed to see or perceive the subject matter (i.e. good, evil, etc.).

In other words, unlike GK1, with GK2 and GK3, the player is told how to feel about certain subjects to a much greater extent, as if Jensen wanted to impress her views on the player.

Of course, I could be talking total nonsense here. 🙂 I’m still a big fan of the series (GK1 is on my top ten list of favourite adventures, for sure) and would love for Jane Jensen (and ONLY Jane Jensen!) to design and develop another one.

Like I said in another thread, what I didn’t like about the latter two Gabriel Knights is how they handed out straightforward explanations to complex mythologies that date back for centuries.

Von Glower never felt all that evil to me. Life and death, that’s nature. Good and evil are artificial constructs created by humans to simplify their perception of the world. Reminds me of a line by the Devil from Brimstone: “My job’s not to decide who lives and dies. My business is with the soul. And I have never damned a soul who didn’t thoroughly deserve it. Mother Nature is a completely different story. She kills indiscriminately, good and evil alike. Why she gets all the good press, I’ll never know.”

GK is my favorite series of all time along with King’s Quest. For mature subjects, it blows away everything else. For me, 3 was by far the best. The entire interface and gameplay is simply genius, the story is pretty much unsurpassable in my opinion (I can’t imagine how a GK4 could have topped it, though I’d like to see:), and the puzzles and information are just brilliant. All the games are great, but GK3 just went well above and beyond in terms of how plastered to the screen I was and how deep the story was (truly genius the way it connected real-life mysteries and legends, and it preceeded DaVinci Code mind you) and how well paced and fun the game is. I’d love to see a graphical update of it to a more modern level, wouldn’t that be incredible? It’s THE perfect game, in my opinion.

Seriously, screw Sierra for ditching the best games we’ve ever seen. And screw LucasArts for the same reason, I can’t believe how they’ve turned their backs COMPLETELY. I mean, GK was a highly successful series, I just don’t get why they ditch these forever but still hold on to the rights.

The funniest thing about the Da Vinci Code is that it offers nothing new. The ideas it extrapolates are genuinely old hat. Still, it’s a huge commercial success. Clearly someone just had to write these things down in a format (in this case, modern pulp fiction) that is accessible to a large public audience.

But yeah, I’d love to see another GK. Perhaps another developer (Revolution?) could acquire the rights and hire Jane Jensen to write the game for them . . . ?
