ParticipantHello,
My name is Jesse and I’m a PR Assistant with the Unofficial King’s Quest IX Team. King’s Quest IX: “Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining” http://www.kq9.org is an unofficial fan-designed adventure game, based on Sierra On-Line’s King’s Quest series. It centres on the adventures of the royal family of the Kingdom of Daventry, and combines memorable characters, often mind-bending puzzles, great storylines, and fun gameplay. Most of the puzzles and many of the characters are inspired by myth and folklore, making the games easy to enjoy for anyone who plays them.
On Sunday, May 15th, 2005 the King’s Quest IX team will celebrate the KQ9.org’s 3rd Anniversary by hosting a chat in the KQIX Chamber http://www.kq9.org/chat, our Java-based IRC chatroom. From 4PM – 6PM EST (GMT -05:00) fans will get a chance to talk in realtime with members of the KQIX Development Team, including the directors, artists, musicians, and programmers!
The first hour of the chat will be reserved for questions from invited members of the press including: The Inventory, Game Informer, PC Gamer, Just Adventure, and more. Also during this chat, we will finally be announcing our game’s release date and other exciting surprises.
To learn more about King’s Quest IX: Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining, visit our site at: http://www.kq9.org/ We hope to see you all there!

ParticipantHello everyone,
I am very pleased to announce that Ken and (possibly) Roberta Williams will be attending the KQ9.org Birthday Chat!
For those unaware, Ken & Roberta Williams are the original creators of the King’s Quest series and countless others.
So there’s no excuse not to come!

ParticipantJust checked out http://www.kq9.org — the fan project looks spectacular. Way to go, everyone! Am looking forward to its release.
Was also curious… (I’m new here and apologize if this has been covered elsewhere) but what are Roberta and Ken’s feelings about the project? I noticed they were guests for the May 15th chat, so my guess is they’re at least generally supportive/encouraging. I’m not sure what all the legal copyright issues involved are, and I would guess they probably couldn’t have any direct involvement in the project, but it’s nice to see they’re well aware of all the effort being put into KQ9. Probably a huge treat for them (as it is for an old time Sierra fan like me) to see the ongoing interest in the King’s Quest adventures.
Also, any plans to release a playable or nonplayable demo showing some of the interface, animation, cut scenes, etc?

ParticipantThanks DJ!
Ken & Roberta are quite supportive of our project. 🙂 They were both pretty impressed with our screenshots too! You can read more in the chat log.
You’re right that Ken & Roberta can’t get involved with our project because of legal reasons. Roberta also once mentioned that creativity-wise, it’s best to just have ONE main designer in charge (Cesar Bittar) or the end-product will suffer from too many creative differences, like King’s Quest: Mask of Eternity did.
We’ll be releasing more and more goodies to our site as we get closer to the game’s release. As for a demo, the closest thing to that would probably be a public beta with just a couple of scenes, since we don’t want to spoil too much before the game’s actual release. 😉
