I upgraded the message board system. No email updates may go out for a day or two while I stabilize the system.

Post any bugs you see here and I’ll fix them as fast as I can.

      Thank you!

Interesting new stuff Ken. I’ve just been so busy with school that I haven’t been around much. I can’t wait until the end of this semester – if I pass all my courses, I should be graduating!

I’ve only taken a quick look at things but the discussion boards definitely feel more like message boards now. I think it’s the right choice to make the message boards have a different feel and system as it were from the rest of the site. If I run across anything in terms of bugs and suggestions I’ll let you know.

I like it! Were some messages deleted regarding testing?

Not deliberately … but, I may have forgotten to copy some data. The old message boards, are still here on the site. If you can think of something that was in one, I can go look for it.

One thing I notice Ken that should be easy to fix is that the discussion boards are not in the order that they used to be.

Also, when you goto Sierra Chat or Games Chat and you have the list of message boards, I would make each message board box closer to the same width as the red box surrounding them all. The thing is, no one wants to scroll down 3 or 4 full page lengths to see all the options. You might want to consider removing some info that is on that listing. It’s mostly fairly obvious what each discussion board is about, and all the extra info hampers navigation.

Hey Ken, another thing I noticed – this time nothing to be fixed! I just noticed that you eliminated the “title” of each post and instead, each topic just has it’s own title. I like that!

OK Ken, here’s a feature request. For admins, make a pull-down menu when you are viewing a topic, and it says “move this topic to”, and it just gives you a list of all the boards that are available for me to move the topic to. That would really make moving messages in the wrong place very easy.

Here’s something else. When composing a message, also have a button that says “post” right away, instead of making the user go through the “preview” stage. It’s some extra button-clicking that probably many people find bothersome.

      Brandon:

Did you see the existing Admin system for moving topics? It gives you a ton of power. I need to make it a bit more intuitive, but it works great.

I have plans to create a new concept of forum administrator, so that you can grant administrator priviledges to individual users of a forum, without making them a system administrator.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll work on it!

Ah, I hadn’t seen the new system. That does look good – but, I still can’t help but think it would be useful to have that option on the page itself. I can definitely work with that though. I’ve noticed you’ve added a lot of “edit” buttons back in which is very nice. Keep up the good work.

      Ok Ken, check this out.

You are already displaying the user’s name, so obviously you are reading the data from the database at that point and exploiting it (to identify the user).

The user’s settings and access level might be variable AccessLvl. If AccessLevl=Admin then %> display links for admins <%endif%>

Nothing is displayed if the user doesnt have the access. If they do a table is shown with all the links. I use session variables and cookies to check user access level (if there’s nothing there they are not logged in yet).

P.S. I think my carriage returns are dissappearing?

Did user settings / email settings get reset? I haven’t been getting email notifications for weeks now. I’ve set again to receive emails, so we’ll see if it kicks in again. Has anyone else not been getting the emails when they used to?

For awhile I wasn’t getting any email notifications either. I rechanged the settings and everything’s fine. …Wait, does that also count for the Developer’s section? ..or do we have to redo those settings too.. ?
