ParticipantI really loved the old Sierra and the great products they would churn out throughout the late eighties and early ninties, and I’ve devoted time to collecting and learning all about my favourite game company. I really enjoy going to AlLowe.com and reading all his inside stories of his experience and was just wondering if Kenneth Williams or any of the other members of the Sierra gang ever thought of writing a detailed history of the company from it’s birth to the position it’s in today and publishing it as a book or on-line? It’s very awe-inspiring how a giant of a gaming company can come to exist just from two people who wanted to tell a story, and it would be nice to know how it developed and grew.
Thanks

Participant(re: The history of Sierra…) I haven’t spoken with Al about whether or not he would ever write a book. I’m not sure about others.
I have always planned that one day I would write a book. There is some amazing history that is worth telling. My garage (actually a storage unit) is overloaded with boxes of all my old Sierra correspondence. I don’t know that I’ll ever sit still long enough to actually write the book, but it has been on my “to do” list for years. For now, the best “reference” on Sierra in the old days is the book: Hackers, by Steven Levy. It’s not a very flattering portrait of Sierra or myself, but it is certainly compelling reading. When Roberta and I started Sierra we were younger than most college students, and this comes through in the book. Oh well…. History isn’t always pretty.

Participant(re: The history of Sierra…) Ken,
out of curiosity I bought the book you suggested here. I’m now at the part which relates more to Sierra and to you and it has indeed some insights that make me keep reading and turning pages. For sure it adds a lot the fact that from a distance, this involves part of my own life, as a kid and young person, when I was looking foreward to play the next Sierra adventure… and still find now many of them amazing.
Nice suggestion, thank you,
Giovanni
