ParticipantI was wondering if anyone has ever completed any of the games without saving it first? People say it’s impossible, but that’s just not so. Our computer didn’t have enough memory — I’m sure the one we have now does, but anyway . . .
I was 13 and my little sister was 10. She manned the keyboard and I acted as her navigator, armed with The King’s Quest Companion by Peter Spears. Since her reflexes are quicker than mine, I though it best that she control King Graham. There was a section in the book called ‘The Easy Way Out’. Even though the book urges you to save the game, we couldn’t, so we just played. The game? ‘King Quest’s II: Romancing the Throne’.
It took three and a half hours, numerous deep breaths, crossed fingers, and sighs of relief, but we completed the game — without ever saving it once. This, of course, was sixteen years ago. My dad was stunned that we had done it on a computer with so little memory, but we did it. To this day, I won’t ever forget the night we completed the game.

ParticipantI’ve done it with a few Sierra games. It’s not that hard if you’re familiar with the game. Most difficult thing is not falling off narrow paths. But it all depends on the game. Games like the original King’s Quest were difficult because of the random baddies that run out and kill you. The random nature of the games requires some luck. So it’s impressive winning King’s Quest II without saving since it had a few of those. I think I did it for Space Quest 1-2, Police Quest 1, and maybe King’s Quest III. I don’t remember. Those were the games I played the most.
