ParticipantHi! I’m trying to play Space Quest 6, but keep running into problems. I’ve waited 10 years to play this game, and always had trouble with the infamous Compost, until I came across the timing patch last week. That got me through the Compost error, but now I’m having a new shut down happen on Delta Burksilon when I enter Sharpei’s room. As soon as I enter, a Windows error message pops up saying: “NTVDM.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about the problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve NTVDM.EXE. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.” I’m not very computer literate with this kind of stuff, so any help or explanations would be MUCH appreciated!! Thank you in advance!!!!!

ParticipantI figured out my NTVDM.EXE error… you need to edit the RESOURCE.INI file! Thanks to the helper!

ParticipantJust play the game in DOSBox to avoid NTVDM errors.

ParticipantI’ve been using VDMSound, since I couldn’t get DOSBox to work. I’m still curious about a Windows fix, if there is one, though.

ParticipantDOSBox is easy to use. there are many guides out there on how to use DOSBox, but the easiest way to use DOSBox is to set a shortcut to it on your desktop and just drop any DOS game’s executable on it. DOSBox will avoid all timer bugs and incompatiblity problems. It will also work in future versions of Windows, VDMS will not.
