Has anyone ever thought of making a Space Quest movie? I origionaly thought that Galexy Quest was a SQ movie until I saw the preview.

I’ve been thinking of it serously for a month or two now. I have a short story written a few years ago that could be Space Quest 13 (already know what will happen in 7-12!).

      Anyone else thinking about this??

(re: Space Quest Movie?) Well, Mark Crowe had said in one interview that there already is a Space-Quest movie, and it’s called “Galaxy Quest”! He was kidding, of course. Here’s the URL:

Personally, whenever I watch “Futurama” I find myself thinking “This is so Space-Quest!”

(re: Space Quest Movie?) I remember seeing Galaxy Quest, and Deuce Bigolow, on the same day – and, thinking that they MUST have been inspired by Space Quest and Leisure-Suit Larry.

What I REALLY think should be adapted for film is the Gabriel Knight series. For a while, I’ve been imagining a GK1 movie in my head that right now, I’m writing a pseudo-script for my web site just for fun.

(re: Space Quest Movie?) I’m afraid too much of GK’s plot, story, and background history would be lost in a movie, unless it would be a very lenghty one…

(re: Space Quest Movie?) I know, and I do imagine a good adaptation having to be long. Still…
      1. Some long movies are great ones (i.e. Lord of the Rings, Titanic).
      2. The historical stuff can be trimmed just a little to simply it and not confuse people, but not too much to eliminate it.
      3. A few parts in the game are not needed (i.e. Madame Lorelei).
      4. Some parts can be altered to avoid spoiling puzzles and make things go a bit quicker.
In this thing I’m writing for my web site, I’m already writing the scenes for Day 7, so I’m getting close to finishing. I’m not stopping now. 🙂

(re: Space Quest Movie?) I also was thinking about a Space Quest movie, but I should be based on the first three games, as those were the most fun..
How about Brendan Fraser as Roger Wilco (he was very funny in George of the Jungle And the mummy.. LOL.. but maybe he’s too old now for playing Roger Wilco).. LOL.. As long as it ain’t one of the Wilson brothers (You know, the blond dude from shanghai knights)..

(re: Space Quest Movie?) Ugarte – I must say I’m looking forward to your script, it sounds very interesting.
Ofcourse, long movies are good, if not the best. You mention LOTR… Nice movie, but it’s a good example of a movie that failed to bring forth the complete story of the book to film… And I fear the same will happen to a GK movie.

Andrew, I was thnking of Brenden Fraiser for Roger Wilco too! He’d be perfect! The first game into a movie would be great.

When I first heard of Galexy Quest, I THOUGHT it was space quest. Them, i found out it wasn’t. Then I saw the movie and was happy again!

(re: Space Quest Movie?) This is quite the interesting topics. I enjoy making short films with my small acting group that I opened and I am director of, and we had to cancel a huge project this summer, so we’re currently deciding what should we do next for a short film (instead of a huge project).
As I look down my list here, we have about two or three ‘Sierra-Game Spin-offs’ that we may be doing over the summer. One of them consists of the ‘Hero’ revisiting Mordavia (Quest for Glory 4) in a small series, or a Leisure Suit Larry Spin-off: DiscoMan … Crazy superhero who acts a lot like Mr. Laffer.
Then another thing we were planning on doing was making three Quest for Glory related commercials, which would of course be humorous, and we would use them to advertise possibly QG2 Tierra’s remake (if they’re willing), or just for laughs.
So, I do have my list of work, although it won’t be nothing in theaters or such, since they are, ahem, copyrighted material of Sierra.

(re: re: Space Quest Movie?) Coincidentally, both Futurama and Space Quest came to the same fate: Cancellation! 😉

(re: Space Quest Movie) Actually I just wanted to post new because that other thread is sort of several months old now. In any case i’ve been thinking about a space quest movie for a long time. Skip any other actors playing the parts of Roger Wilco, i’d have to say David Spade SHOULD be Roger Wilco. In fact he already played a janitor in Joe Dirt. And for Sludge Vohaul (assuming he’d be still alive when this would ever get made) should be played by none-other than Joss Ackland. If you don’t know who he is check this out –

      — for the movies he’s been in. He was in the Mighty Ducks as Hans (who was the mentor to Emilio Estevez’s character) he was also in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey as De Nomolos (the bad guy)… These are just a couple of the movies that stand out in my mind as something some of you would perhaps have seen… More recent, he was also in A Kid in King Arthur’s Court as King Arthur, and in K-19 the window maker… Of course a few of these aren’t that great of movies but they’re the ones I know him from most (except K-19 that i’ve only seen once). Anyways put him in blue makeup and you have Sludge Vohaul. Go find some pictures of him and you’ll know what I mean. Wow how did this message end up as a plug for him, when really I wanted to emhasize David Spade as Roger Wilco, i mean… He’s who i’ve always thought was most like Roger. In any case if they made a movie, they should use Space Quest 1 and 2 and combine them, it would make it pretty good… Anyway sorry for such a long post as my first post heh… I’m sort of emphatic about this and never had a place to put my thoughts on the subject 😉
