The timing sequences are too fast in the CD version of SQ4. I have the disc version and it works fine…doesn’t even need a slowdown utility. However, I would like to play the CD version for the voices! I just wanted to know, why is the CD version so sped up comapared to the disc version? Is there anyway to fix this? I have tried moslo and turbo and neither help. It happens everywhere. The robot comes about 40 times if I wait behind the pole. If I try as hard as I can, I can get to Vohauls base. Then, the sequel police will not even wait 1 second for me to enter the time machine….
This is very frustrating…..seeing as the other version runs fine…and I really wanted to play the CD version too….:(

(re: Space Quest 4 CD) Klick the hand on the timepod immediately after entering the scene (having set speed to minimum and detail to maximum of course) and you’re through. You’ll definitely be stuck in the galaxy galleria running from SP though (in the hoverblade arena sequence).
There used to be a savegame download to get you past those tricky situations at sierra.com’s techsupport (like the one they still have there for SQ1), but I can’t find the SQ4 one anymore there. Look hard on the web, maybe it’s still out there somewhere!
Damn, I hoped to put the download link up here, so you could get it right away, but somehow it’s gone. Sorry for this. I think I still have these savegames somewhere, though. If you can’t find them, post you’re e-mail address here and I’ll look for ’em and send ’em to you.

(re: re: Space Quest 4 CD) I’ve already tried slowing it down but it doesn’t help. Besides if it’s that much trouble I think I’ll stick with the disk version…

(re: Space Quest 4 CD) I had the same problem, unfortunately if Turbo or Moslo doesn’t work, then I’m afraid you’re in trouble. the reason is simply that your computer is too fast for the CD version, (but then again I have no idea why it’s ok for the disk version)
I used Turbo and had Roger walk very fast, that was the only way for me to finish the game, but yes it was very hard and you have to know what to do in each sequence where the game is too fast, and about the killer robot in the beginning, best just do quickly one thing at a time and hide million times. Slow I know but better take longer than being constantly killed.

I remember this issue coming up on the adventuregamers forum. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the solution. Adventuregamers has been down all summer so I can’t check the archives for you. But you could try posting your question at their temporary forum… maybe someone who posted to the original thread will read it and have some advice.

The temporary forum is at: http://lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=484

(re: Space Quest 4 CD) I was one of the programmers on the CD version of Space Quest 4. The timing is different in the CD version because it was switched from game cycles to actual time counters. My developer machine was a Gateway 386 dx. And on that machine, it worked. But I agree that it’s much too difficult to get through the mall sequence.

(re: re: Space Quest 4 CD) Bob: Much too difficult doesn’t quite suit it, it’s impossible! But it worked at the time, so it was alright. Who might have guessed that the game would be such a big hit that some freaks still want to play it YEARS later? ;o)
That’s why Sierra provided these nice savegames to get past it. And they’re still available from their public ftp server! I just found out that although there is no related information in their knowledge base anymore, these files are still accessible:

      Link: ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/goodies/pc/sq4sg.exe(ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/goodies/pc/sq4sg.exe)

Chances are this doesn’t work on every system, but whoever wants to play the CD version again should be able to using the savegames contained therein.

( Space Quest 4 CD at right speed and voices)

The only solution I’ve found is using Abandon Loader. Install SQ4 for Windows …NOT for DOS!!!! Abandon Loader has a slowdown utility that works after you started the game. Before you do this, familiarize yourself with Abandon loader, it’s not easy at first. Start Abandon Loader and start SQ4 for Win within the A.L., thenAlt-Tab to A. L., switch on the slowdown checkmark after choosing the percent of slowdown you need and then Alt-Tab back to the game. Just be sure that the “command” instruction for the A.L., was changed from the default that it has to the Windows one…ah! and be sure to put your desktop on 256 colors before starting the game. That is the only way I could play SQ4 at a normal speed.

(re: Space Quest 4 CD at right speed and voices) You can also try GOSIERRA…
