ParticipantI remember at one point a while back on a Space Quest forum there was mention of a version of Space Quest 3 that had the “Light Speed” button on the ship’s computer labeled as “Lite Speed”…I was curious to see if anyone has or has seen this version?
Also, I’d hate to waste a new topic on this, but does anyone have that beta version of SQ4 that was released by THG that has the debug mode enabled?

ParticipantThe site was probably Frans’ spacequest.net:
“An early release of Space Quest 3 is somewhat different. One obvious difference is that the Aluminum Mallard’s cockpit computer had the option “Lite Speed” instead of “Light Speed” as seen in later versions.”
It doesn’t list what version of the game it is, but perhaps in the Janitorial Times forums of spacequest.net you might find the original discussion.
I don’t think anyone has the THG release of SQ4. I’ve never seen it. I had a text file from THG at one point with all the info about the release, but I can’t find it right now.

ParticipantI seem to recall having that version and, being a mere 9 years old and not a native English speaker, not understanding what they meant.
My current copies all have ‘light speed’, though I haven’t checked the one for which I only have the 5.25′ disks.

ParticipantI know I have that old version on two 5.25″ disks. I’m actually trying to get an old drive right now so that I can get the game off of them and save it.
When I acquired newer versions of the games for my computer I remember being surprised when I first saw “Light” spelled correctly because I always assumed it was some classic inside joke.

ParticipantSo you used to have that version Rebecca? Are there any other differences you might recall, would you still have it by any chance? Aren’t posts that are comprised of nothing but questions rather irritating :p

ParticipantI had them… The disks are too corrupt (I managed to acquire an old disk drive to read them), so I couldn’t recover the data 🙁
The “Lite Speed” part is the only significant difference I remember. I first played the game when I was about four (played being, hovering behind my brother and dad while they were playing), and I was confused by the “lite” speed thing. So when I played later versions and saw it had changed I noticed and was surprised. My brother and dad on the other hand didn’t remember that little detail, hehehe.

ParticipantThat’s too bad 🙁 What’s the version number on the disks?
