ParticipantReading about the Lisa game engine brought back memories of those Yellow catalogs that had pages and pages of Shareware in them. I remember always wanting the game engine that built games similar to sierra but could never afford it as a kid. Wish I could remember the name of it or anything about it.
Man those were the days, 300 baud and 5 1/4 floppies, and Jumbo 120’s 🙂

Participant(re: Shareware 3d Game Engine) I remember shareware catalogs too, those were fantastic. Ah, shareware and BBS’, those were the days… Sadly I could never afford the rest of the games as a kid, usually in trilogies, that came after the first game was a shareware one, nor could I convince my parents to buy them!
I remember programs to make Sierra-type games too, but don’t remember any of them now. But now, you can get Chris Jones’ Adventure Game Studio for the low, low price of FREE! And it’s better than sliced bread. Seriously, it’s an amazing program and better yet, Chris continues to develop it with feature requests from the huge community following.Link: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk(http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk)

I agree with you on AGS – lots of good stuff is made with it, including (so far) all of Tierra’s games. You might also want to check out http://www.agsforums.com, where you can see a bunch of the games made for it with a bit of digging.
However, from the subject of the original message, you seem to be looking for an engine for pure 3d games, and AGS is currently capable of running old-style graphics. You can, of course, pre-render to get the illusion of 3d, but it’s not the same.
Here’s a few places you might check out, though I don’t know how well they work or how simple they are – search engines are just spiffy!
3dGameStudio:
http://www.conitec.net/a4info.htm Genesis3d:
http://www.genesis3d.com/download.php Crystal Space 3d:
http://crystal.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-view_articles.php And of course, you can always use the kits that come with certain games, if you own ’em. Morrowind, Unreal Tournament, I think Half-life has one, Dungeon Siege (Not exactly what I would use), etc.
And of course, if you’re going to make a 3d game – you’ll want a 3d designing program.
Maya:
http://www.alias.com3d Studio Max:
http://www.discreet.com/ You can really only get trials or buy ’em, and they’re way expensive to buy… but there’s always free programs hidden around the web. I’m sure you can find those on your own. 😉
