ParticipantI was just wondering if anybody was going to re-make V with voice-overs.
In my option I think that the fifth chapter is the coolest. -

Participant(re: Re-make V with voice-overs?) I guess someone could de-compile the game and then make voices for it… or someone could rip all the graphics and re-program it completely and then add voices… but that’s a lot of work for a game that’s many years old now.
I agree, Space Quest V was a very fun chapter in the series, and it would have worked very well with voices. But Sierra definitely is not going to go back and update it, and I think re-making a VGA game just to add voices is low or not at all on the list of any fan group.

Participant(re: Re-make V with voice-overs?) Brandon,
Who’s it goin?
I was thinking of doing a remake of Robin Hood with voices, but of course, it never got past the “thinking” stage 🙂
On top of all the work involved simply getting voices in the game and working and looking decent, the voice actors would also have to be decent, or it could hurt the game. I doubt we could get Gary Owens to do the narrative for SQV, and if not, it’s already downhill. Maybe there are some good impressionists out there 🙂
With all the remakes coming out today (Resident Evil 1, Metal Gear Solid 1, Metroid 1, etc, etc..), I think there MAY come a day when Sierra, dead or alive, does remake some of the more popular titles, and only if they could actually turn a profit. But it would only be certain games that are regarded highly, and even then, hope is the only fuel for such thoughts….

Maybe if you could remake SQ5 in new 3D or at least 13-bit colour, and voice overs, even in the SQ5 hintbook, Dynamics sayed that they were going to make a CD-version of SQ5 with voices.

ParticipantIf things were so turbulent durring that era Im willing to bet somewhere in the depths of some Sierra/Dynamics vault that there are some recorded voice tracks for this game…that is of course assuming that they started on the voice version before the idea was completely canned…

ParticipantThe ‘vault’ no longer exists. Vivendi killed off old Sierra treasures LONG ago, sadly enough.
SQ5 could be fun, but yeah, it’d need Gary 🙂

ParticipantVivendi would probably have cleared out all Sierra’s creative assets, but I cannot believe for one second that SOMEONE wouldn’t have taken the film footage, the sound recordings, the source code, original artworks, etc. I reckon much of this material still exist in physical form SOMEWHERE. Now if only we could track the current owner(s) down. This website is certainly a good start.

ParticipantJohann, you are certainly right, there are private collectors as well as former staff members out there who do have such assets from Sierra’s golden days. Myself and several others are working at this very moment to obtain and process all such material for a future offspring site of SierraGamers. We have meant to make more information on our archival projects public, but that has been delayed because of just how busy we are. But it’s all coming 🙂
