Questions about Sierra’s old game sales

Ken, (or anyone else who would know) when Sierra On-Line had their monthly magazine, you could buy games from it, sometimes with the “Buy 1 get 1 free” offer. I remember one of these offers that didn’t have the “Equal to or lower priced one is free.” Well, I promptly bought Shivers ($30) and the Space Quest Pack (1-5) ($50), the free-be. My request was honered (amazingly to me!). I always wondered if this was a mistake. If it was I hope noone lost their job because of it!
