Back when I bought my first computer in 1989 (a Tandy 1400HD laptop :)) I bought a copy of Hero’s Quest. One I still have to this day in cream puff condition.

Although I know the game title was changed to Quest for Glory I was wondering if the ones that had Hero’s Quest on them were recalled or not? I cant seem to find anyone that has an actual Hero’s Quest. Is mine one of the only few left? Does anyone have any info?

      Thanks,
      Elias

I see a few copies of “Hero’s Quest” floating around on ebay here and there. I don’t believe the original release was ever re-called, but Ken would know better than I would.

Yeah, I had Hero’s Quest, not Quest for Glory. I remember it, because when Quest for Glory came out, I bought a copy, thinking it was a different game. Afterwards, I gave the Hero’s Quest copy to a friend, because I thought Quest for Glory sounded cooler. I wish I hadn’t.

I still have my original Hero’s Quest with all the stuff that came with it. Unfortunately I lost the box it came in long ago but everything else I still have. 🙂

Same here. I have the original manual and everything with the cool caricatures on the cover. I’ve beaten this game probably 10 times. And when I found out about the razzledazzlerootbeer cheat I probably beat it twice more in cheat mode just for kicks. It’s been probably 10 years since I’ve played a game in this series but if they were to release one today I’d definitely buy it.

I have it and sitll play it to this day. Though I really hate how some people on other boards say that Hero’s Quest and QFG1 are the same when they aren’t! You get to fight dinosaurs and even a DRAGON! Say has anyone came across the dragon in hero’s quest? One of my brothers said they did but non of my other 4 and me have never came across one.

(re: QFG1/Hero’s Quest Info) I played the original Hero’s Quest. Never saw a dragon, but towards the end of the game you’ll start running across dinosaurs. Back when it came out my sister and I played so much we maxed out every statistic on our characters (100 in all categories). That made our lives easier when we found out that QFG2 could import the characters from the first game 🙂

Near the end? I thought you could fight dinosaurs any time in the game…

      (re: QFG1/Hero’s Quest Info) Hello,

I think that from the very beginning, there was a small lizard, which could be said to be a small dinosaur.
I played Hero’s Quest I about 13 years ago, but I do remember for sure that once you passed 1000 points of experience (which is separate from your skill points), one or more (I can’t remember the exact number) big dinosaurs appeared.
But I don’t remember encountering any dragon. Has really anyone encountered a dragon, and if yes, is this limited only to the HQ 1 version, which was an excellent game and ran quite well on my 8 Mhz Turbo PC/XT. Or perhaps one of the big dinosaurs is what you call a dragon? Now that I think of it, probably that’s it.
I learned much English from this outstanding adventure game.

My greetings to all who have played the game 🙂

hmm well that’s odd. Cause even the handbook says there is a dragon. Also the front cover shows yo fighting a dragon but strange never the less.

You do fight the Saurus on the front of the Hero’s Quest box cover. However, I’ve never encountered the dragon on the front of the Quest for Glory VGA (is that the one you’re referring to?) box cover with the stained glass window motif.

(re: QFG1/Hero’s Quest Info) I’ve been all through it, even way back when with the original release of Hero’s Quest. There is no Dragon to fight in the game. Of course, there is the one in the Guild Hall – but yes, it is dead 🙂

You do not encounter a live one in the game.

(re: QFG1/Hero’s Quest Info) When you say dinosaurs, you do mean Saurus Rex, correct?

In Hero’s Quest they were red, with a bit of blue. In close combat looks like they have one red eye, one green eye.

In QFG1 on the other hand they are just brown/tan coloured.

My cousin had the original Hero’s Quest.  I also played it on a laptop (could’ve been a Tandy too).  It was huge.  It’s funny when I remember how big and heavy it was and how tiny the monitor actually was.  I connected it to my Commodore 64 monitor so I could play it in B&W rather than blue and gray.  I still loved the game.  It’s probably one of my favorite games of all time.  I think it’s the best overall, even though QFG4 has the best story.  And there is no dragon in it and it’s a saurus rex on the cover, not a dragon.  You can tell it has tiny arms and no wings.
