I was playing my old Sierra games, this week while on vacation, and got my Police Quest Casebook out to, well, cheat. I noticed that the points for Police Quest II added up to 306, but the book said only 300. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

The first game I ever played was Police Quest I In Pursuit of the Death Angle, and can rember my heart racing when I pulled over Jesse Bains.

The games now a days are just shoot and kill and show as much gore as you can. They all seem to be alike. These games don’t hold a candle to the old adventure games where you had to use your wits and get frustrated with finding the right words to do what you wanted.

The graphics are better now, but the content sucks.

I’ve heard about scoring bugs with PQ2, but every time I’ve played I’ve always gotten exactly 300, never more. I wonder if there’s some sort of bug in different versions.

      I wrote a pointcheck back in 1997:

If you have any idea, I’d be interested to know where your scoring differs from mine.

If memory serves, there is a bug in PQ2 that allows you to get multiple fingerprints, I think at Marie’s house. I encountered this when I played it years and years ago. I see on your point list there are no fingerprints at Marie’s. If I remember correctly you could go back to her house and collect them more than once. I think they were on or near the ashtray. I could try to duplicate it sometime. This was an old DOS version we had on floppies… I don’t know if it’s the same version that was later included on the collection.

Hmmm, interesting. I’ll have to fire up my disk version again. Though I played the disk version a few times and never got over 300, that pointcheck and all subsequent plays for me have been the Collection version, so it’s worth a shot.

Thanks Emily–and by the way, are you stalking me or something? 😉

      I was here first. 😛

I will give it a try at some point but I don’t have the disk version of this game so I might not be able to duplicate the bug. Lemme know if you are able to, now I’m curious if this is a real thing or if I made it up. It’s a very strong memory but it was 15 years ago! Try dusting the ashtray for fingerprints before you get the hitlist. What I remember was getting a print but having a different message about it than the one for the rest of the prints (the different message was what made me think it was a bug), and being able to collect the print more than once and/or submit it more than once as evidence.
