Police Quest 2 Mug shots

Hi

I love the Police Quest series, I use to play them when I was about 10. I just got started with them again, but the problem with no documentation rears its ugly head again! I used to have manuals but they have long since disappeared, i tried using the cheat sheets on this site, but the names of the suspects is never accepted!! Meaning I can never start the game!

Is there a specific format for entering the names (all capitals, etc.) or is there likely to be any other reason for none of these to work.

I think you’re having trouble because the one posted here doesn’t look like it’s entirely accurate.  Some of the mug shots don’t look correct.  But, there could be a difference between different versions of the game.  I’m not 100% sure.

I started making my own cheat sheet (sorry, never finished it!) with the actual screenshots from the game.  And so if what I have here is correct, you have to type the names as shown here, first letter uppercase, rest lowercase.  Try this and let me know if it works!

Oh, now I think I remember what happened.  As many times as I started the game, I could never get all the mug shots that appear in the cheat section here, or all the mugshots that appear in the manual, to come up at the beginning of the game.

Anyway, I tried it out again, and I got one more to come up.  I’ve revised the cheat sheet with the new one I added.  I’ve tested these and they work with game version 1.002.011.  I think they should work with 1.001.000 as well, because I think that’s the game version I originally made this with, but I may double check that later today.

You could use the Sierra Resource Viewer to get them all.

Yeah, I thought of that afterward 🙂  But then I figured, if they hardly show up that often (the way it randomly selects them seems to heavily favor some of them), it wouldn’t be that big a deal.  But for completeness, maybe I should do that 🙂

Thanks for all the responses. But unfortunately it still does not seem to work! I think I may just have to leave it and find somthing else to do. A shame really, as i never got very far with PQ2 when I had it before and would like to have seen how it played out.

That’s really weird, Jan.  Do you know which version of the game you have?

By the way Collector, I looked at the resource file for versions 1.001.000 and 1.002.011 and found only the same 8 portraits I have on my cheat sheet, so they never included all the faces that were in the printed manual!

I think that I tried doing the same thing, once before I knew of the Resource Viewer and wondered why I couldn’t get all of shots to come up. That would explain it.

It’s probably the cracked version so just hit enter without putting a name in when mug shot is shown
