Playing Through Again

I started playing these games in the 80’s as a child, and recently I started playing through them again with my own children. I just wanted to thank you for one of the best game franchises I’ve ever played. I also was wondering what the chance of a remake would be using today’s technology. I can help to think how amazing King’s Quest would be as an Xbox live game, where King Graham was your xbox live avatar, and the gameplay was a mix of legend of zelda, king’s quest, and voice control using the Kinect. What I see in your games goes well beyond the code, and I have to say that my children love the story of King Graham as much as I did over 20 years ago. Thanks again for sharing your vision.

Collector has made some incredible patches that allow these games to run through DOSBOX and play pretty much flawlessly on modern day computers.

I found a copy of the kings quest collection and so far I’ve played through 4, and 1 with no problems. 2 did not play, but I have the old Tierra vga remake, which seems to run fine. I’ll let you know on 3 etc as I make my way back through. Right now I am running the collection on a windows 8 machine using the XP compatibility mode. My daughter and son as well as my wife are all getting a hoot out of the games.

Just be aware, when you reach games like KQ5, you will hit “timer bugs” where faster processors cause the game to crash.
