ParticipantFirst of all let me profess my love for adventure games. Although I wasnt the biggest fan of the KQ games I am and was an avid fan of all the other Sierra Adventure games.
Ok. I had this idea I wanted to throw at you guys. What would you think of an Adventure game (ie KQ, QFG, SQ, etc) using the engine that was used in games such as MAFIA and Hitman 2: Silent Assasin? Although those games possesed an enourmous amount of violence I am sure that it can be toned down as a game is developed.
The freedom I experienced while playing those games would be fruitful in an adventure game. I would especially like to see it in a QFG (although, its like wishing for world peace). Anyway I was jsut curious as to what you all thought about the idea. Please feel free to give some feedback.

Actuatly, people make adventure like games using the Quake engine (and mods for the Quake games). I said adventure like because they aren’t point and click. I wsa thinking that t would be neat if someone bought the Quake 1 engine rights and made a 3d adventure game from that!

Participant(re: re: New Adventure Games?) One thing I’ve noticed is there are some 3D adventure games being made, but it seems they’re more popular in Japan, having a much smaller fanbase here. Shenmue. for example, really remninded me of Gabriel Knight, having to talk to everyone to get clues. There s some fighting, but you can just button mash to get past it. Clock Tower is another one. I just started playing number 2 today, and was surprised how it used a point and click system similar to KQ7’s. Teh best part about both those series’ is they’re still going strong, despite you having to use your brain in order to play them. Maybe Roberta should work with the Japanese…

I would settle for EGA/VGA graphics that work with today’s PCs for new games, if it was a good, quality Sierra game… -

Participant(re: re: re: New Adventure Games?) Maybe that’s why I find myself drawn to mostly Japanese games these days.
The original ‘Clock Tower’ and ‘Clock Tower 2’ (just called ‘Clock Tower’ here in Australia and the US, since they never released the first one there) is a good example of an adventure game combined with suspenseful action. Konami’s ‘Shadow of Memories’, however (on the PS2) is a REAL adventure game (ie. no combat, etc.), but in 3D (even if it is a bit easy). I think ‘Shadow of Memories’, ‘Escape From Monkey Island’ and ‘The Longest Journey’ are the only adventure games I’ve seen released in recent years…

The new Zelda on Game Cube is a fun adventure game. It reminds me of the goold old Sierra ones. You charecter had lots of facial expressions and is fun to watch. Maybe Nintendo is kinda like the “new” Sierra (but don’t make games for the PC!)

Shadow of Destiny / Memories is a great game. i played the PC port a few months ago and it really sucked me in. i still haven’t gotten 100% in all the chapters!
banjo, i’m not sure if you meant those are the only adventures you’ve played recently — but there have been a TON more adventures than those three released in the past few years.

Speaking of Monkey Island I found a nice retro band that redid the theme song plus the theme songs of many classics using live instruments. 🙂
They also have a video for the commodore 64.

The first Clock Tower game was for Super Nintendo, but it was only avaliable in Japan. However, the game is alaviable for download at most ROM sites for play with SNES emulators. It was also translated into English by Gideon Zhi of The Aeon Genesis Translation Proclaimation (The AGTP).
Shadow of Memories was released as Shadow of Destiny in the US. I just bought it on eBay and I think it is one of the strangest and unique games I have ever played. You can get it pretty cheap, so if any of you ever find a copy, I would highly recommend it!
