      Hi,
I recently found some documentation to games that I no longer own. They are original documentation to games that were on floppy discs in 1989 and 1990. I realize S101 probably isn’t a Sierra game, but I don’t know where to go to ask about value for it. I would appreciate any help. I know Hero’s Quest 1 was a Sierra game, and I would like to ask about value of just a manual and whether anyone might be interested in it.

      S101:
I have a purple manual with just a tiny bit of wear on the front from lying in a drawer. It is a manual for Spellcasting 101: Sorcerers Get All the Girls. The manual is 36 pages long. The inside pages are regular paper (not parchment-type paper like the map). The purple manual is 8.5″ x 5.5″ in size. The front has a picture of a dragon, a raven, an owl with a wand in its mouth, a book of spells, a wizard’s hat at the bottom that the dragon’s tail encircles and a crystal ball. There is a belt (?) that encircles the dragon’s chest that says Sorcerer’s University. Included is a registration form. The registration form is folded in half because it is larger than the manual. It is one page, printed on one side with black writing like a registration form, and the answers are in blue (I assume for copyright protection). One corner of it is bent, but not torn. It says 1990 Legend Entertainment Co. at the bottom. The measurements of the form are 8.0″ x 12.0″, on heavy white paper. There is a beautiful map in perfect condition, also. The map is a heavy yellowish paper that is either parchment or is supposed to look like parchment. It has red, black and gray print. It is folded in quarters and measures 12.0″ x 16.0″. It’s really very pretty, with illustrations of a ship in one corner and a cloud blowing wind in another corner, a two-headed creature in another corner and a dragon in the fourth corner. There is a coat of arms at the bottom for the university. The map is all drawn out with buildings and houses and a fort and the university drawn on it, and there is an hourglass in the middle of the water for some reason. There is an island shaped like a footprint and another island shaped like a heart with a mermaid on it. There is a hotdog with “Eats” written across it floating near the shore (LOL!) and a sea serpent in the middle of the water. At one point the water is bubbling like it is boiling. It’s got decorative illustrations all around the outside edge, too. I can imagine someone wanting to frame it if they collect games, because it is in perfect condition.

The second manual is a black manual for Hero’s Quest 1. It says “Famous Adventurer’s Correspondence School” on the front. There is a dragon on the front with the initials “HQ” under it. The pages inside are on a heavier yellowish parchment-type paper. The title page says Hero’s Quest 1, So You Want To Be a Hero…
Written and Directed by Lori Ann Cole. The Executive Producer is Ken Williams. Others who worked on the game are listed. The back page is trademarked Sierra and Sierra On-Line 1989. It is in perfect condition, with no bent pages or tears of any kind. The manual is 23 pages long. It does not have install instructions, but instead talks about guilds and being a thief, magic user, magic creatures, humanoids, etc. I haven’t written everything about it but can answer questions.

I would like to know if there is a market (outside ebay) for this type of thing and if anyone is interested in them. I am a member of Gameboomers.com and my name there is Bryansmom. I have an excellent trading record there and am very trustworthy. I don’t think S101 is a Sierra game, but I thought someone here might know about it. Please e-mail me or write here with any information.
      Thanks very much,
      Beth

If manuals were worth anything….I would be a millionaire. I have almost every one of my original game manuals…..especially from the early sierra days. They are like collectable items from the past, but I doubt anyone would buy them for big bucks. After all, most could be downloaded in pdf files off the net.

Beth, Paul… manuals must be worth something – I guess it depends who you ask and what they’re interested in – I’m interested in anything Sierra – as long as it’s in very good or mint condition. I would be interested to buy the Hero Quest manual. You can now click on my name from this post on the website and get my contact info.

(re: Manuals found (Hero’s Quest 1 and S101)) Hi there,
      About Spellcasting 101:
      Link: http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,1027/(http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,1027/)

It was an illustrated text adventure (i.e., you actually saw your surroundings in the form of still images. You could click on various elements of the screen to select an item, but most of the action took place by typing and reading – no walking around there.)
The story went something like “King’s Quest III meets Leisure Suit Larry” – You’re a poor slob called Earnie Eaglebeak, badly treated by evil stepfather Johnny Rottenwood who’d rather see you cleaning dragon dung than enroll at Sorcerer’s University which is your dream – because “Sorcerers get all the girls”. So the first task is to escape home and get to SU before your evil stepfather finds out…
This was one hilarious game! I’m actually interested in the manual as well as the HQ1 manual.
Brandon has already stated he’d like to have the HQ1 manual – about the SC101 manual, I’d be very glad to buy that from you. Interested in selling?
      Simon.
