Participant(re: Interaction Magazine Poll) Brandon,
I think this is a great idea. I agree with those who say that the first scans should be, for archival purposes, complete and carefully done. I would definitely pay to have these “big versions” on CD. For purposes of getting them down to 10 mega for inclusion in the site, non-sierra related pages could be removed, and two pages per pdf page could be adopted…
Furthermore – I have a few issues of Interaction (Fall 199, Summer 1992, Fall 1992, Fall 1994, Spring 1995, Fall 1995, Holiday 1995, Fall 1996 and Holiday 1996). Some are missing a few pages and stuff, but I would love to contribute in any way possible to this archiving.
I loved Interaction Magazine when I was a kid… The games, the writing style, the ads… Interaction IS Sierra… And by God, it was great…Sciefyr

Participant(re: Interaction Magazine List) Brandon and Frans,
Here is my list of Sierra magzines. Brandon, it looks like your Spring and Fall of 97 are ones that I “need” to work towards making a complete collection. Once you lock down a formula for scanning/compressing/archiving the magazines, I will follow your lead, and begin scanning my copies as well for the archives. If you, or anyone else would like to sell/trade any Sierra Pulications with me please let your offers be known – I’m anxious to fill in the holes (about 15 I guesstimate) Ken can you help us with the history of the newsletter? Particularly around the 1981 Time Period – I know there is a newsletter with Cranston Manor on Front, and I have no idea what falls before that, and between the SN Vol 1 No 2 that I have – was the Cranston Manor Vol 1 No 1?
I am also assuming that there is a Vol 1 No 3, and am not quite sure about Vol 2 No 3 and No 4, since we go from Spring 1989 to Autumn 1989 without a summer. Another question – There are two Volume 3 No 1 magazines… they have different content in them, which makes them different than Holiday 95 and 96 which have the same content just alternate covers – I can’t remember why this was – was one a mailed copy and the other the ones that appeared in the magazine rack? It would be great if everyone could check their collections against what I have here, and note any other Alternate covers, so we can be sure to scan those as well. I want to piece together a complete computer list, that is historcially correct, so any acurate information that can be given would be awesome.
As a side note – I have many of the original mailings that Sierra had, promoting special offers and such back in the day. They are kinda fun to look at, and I plan on scanning those as well, should there be an interest for that in the community.

I still own some older interaction magazines. Some that were at the end of ‘classic’ sierra too. Don’t really know why I kept them…..maybe just fond memories..

Participant(re: Interaction Magazine List) I have only one that was not on Brad’s list, but I thougth I would post all of them anyway. I’m guessing that there was not a Vol 2 No 3 and 4 and possibly no other Vol 3s? I think that they may have just printed the 10th Anniversary Issue wrong and it should have been Vol 3 No 2 (if you look at the end of the Cristy Marx magazine it talks about the 10th Annerversary as coming next). If I can help out in any way with getting this project together just let me know. If I can take some of the scanning off of anyones shoulders just shoot me a message.

Participant(re: re: Interaction Magazine List) Thanks for posting that list Sean! Think you are right on the 10th Anniv. Issue, and as far as your cover delima for the Holiday 1998, I think you do indeed have an alternate version. If I recall I think it was the difference between getting it in the mail, and picking it up as a freebie at say CompUSA or buying it at B&N… I can’t quite remember. Herer is a scan of my Holiday 1998 Cover. I think you’ll find that yours has the same “stories” listed on the cover. If you can scan and post yours too that would be great.

Participant(InterAction Publication History) I also wanted to ask if anyone knew when the last interaction was published? I want to say the Spring 1999 issue was the last one, but not positive. Does anyone have any information on that?

Participant(re: re: Interaction Magazine Poll) Sciefye,
Could you please edit your post to list the main artwork/article on the covers of the Interactions that you listed below? We are tring to see if there are alternate covers for any of those. Thanks!

Participant(Sierra Magazines that we still need. (Around 10)) Fellow historians :
Below is a list of the magazines either I do not have, or have not found anyone who has them – we need an APB put out on these. Ken is going to be our best source I believe. I have a few old Sierra contacts that I can check with, but I am not holding my breath. This list is not absolute either. I have no clue/evidence of what existed between 1981-1987, and if some of the issues that I have listed really exist or not – with changing of the name of the magazine and such, and the numbering/date systems. Some have a question mark by them, but in reality all of them should have a question mark by them until someone actually spots one.
Let the hunt begin! I want this archiving project to be complete!

Participant(re: re: InterAction Mag.)
Ken,
At first glance it looks like you have Spring 1998 which in all my searching I have not come across anyone that has that magazine.. so hold on to that one. =)
Check the :
Summer 96 Baseball
Holiday 98 RacingCan you give me a better idea of what is on the front cover?
My Summer 96 shows a picture of Lighthouse, and has “Lighthouse” written big across the bottom. It does mention Baseball ’96 on the cover though – but thought maybe you had an alternate cover. My Holiday 1998 is blatantly Kings Quest VIII : MOE graphics on front, but it does make a reference to Racing, but is very secondary. Anyway if you can clarify on those two.
I know of one guy who has the Vol 1#1 newsletter, but it would probably be easier to get it scanned from you. It’s the one with Cranston Manor and the little armour guy right?
The one you have listed as “Vol 3 KQ3 ships for Apple” did you mean Vol 1 #3? And you are for sure that it is Spring 1988? It would seem like #3 would be 3rd Quarter, or Fall.
Is the Sierra Buyers guide 1996 more of a catalog or a magazine?
As far as Kids Bytes, and Mad Magazine. Not quite sure. The only thing I can think of is that I think there is a Leisure Suit Larry reference in one of the MAD cartoons.. if my memory serves me correctly. I’ll have to dig through my stuff, and see if I have that one too. I’ll only assume that there is some Sierra nugget in the Kids bytes / Brightstar.
Anyway those were just a few questions I had. Keep me posted.

Participant(re: List of who has which magazines) Brad:
The summer 96 issue of InterAction I have has Randy Johnson on the cover.
We did multiple different covers on several occasions. Here’s why: Authors would get really upset if someone elses product got the cover of InterAction. Part of my job was to keep everyone happy, motivated, and building product. If we had two hot products at the same time, we would print half the magazines with one product on the cover, and the other half with a different product on the cover.
My holiday 98 issue has three race cars on the cover.
The vol1 # 1 is as you described it.
The Spring 1988 Vol 3 issue I have is labeled “Sierra Newsletter” and is black and white. It’s about a 24 page newsletter.
The buyers guide is just a catalog.
The Education stuff was a different newsletter we did just focused on education.
I think I now remember that the Mad magazine has some Sierra stuff in it.
Here’s something fun: one of the contracts I found today was with Disney, for a Leisure-Suit Larry film. Disney licensed the film rights, and for a while, there were rumors Jim Carey would be Larry, but nothing ever came of it. I’ve tried for years to get the film rights to Larry, and will hopefully get them someday.

Participant(re: List of who has which magazines) Brad, it seems your USAP site hasn’t really caught on… nor am I sure it’s necessary. In any event, I’ve setup my own page listing what I have:

Brad, for sure it is simply labelled Volume 3 and it is Spring 1988. Here’s the cover. Let me know if you need this one scanned ASAP and I’ll see if I have time. -

Brandon,
Yes I do not have this one – if you can scan it that would be great. I believe Tom @ Quest Studios has this one, but it would be good if you could just scan it while you are there. Thanks. Sorry I haven’t check email in a few days – I just got you message about the scanner and such. Christmas kept me so incredibly busy I think I touched a computer just once. Happy holidays bud!

Participant(re: re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”))
I don’t have my master Interaction list here at work, but I can tell you this :
I recently acquired a Summer 96 Mag with Randy Johnson, so I DO NOT need that.
I DO need the Volume 1 #1 (Cranston Manor) scanned from cover to cover.
I DO need Volume #3 scanned from cover to cover.
I DO need the Spring 1998 Magazine scanned from cover to cover – no one I have ever come in contact with has this one.
I DO need the Holiday 1998 Front and Back Cover.
——If you can get the whole magazines on the ones I need scanned – that would be great – otherwise I will just get Ken to send them up when the heavy interaction scanning starts. Thanks! How much longer are you there for?
-Brad

Participant(re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”)) At least, I can scan Holiday 1998 covers and hopefully V1#1 and V3 from cover to cover… And I’ll do my best with the Spring 1998 issue, obviously it’s a lot longer than the earlier ones.
I’m here today and tomorrow… and then on Friday I’m visiting Al Lowe. I’m trying to finish Roberta’s design documents today. I’ll give everyone a full run down in a couple days. -

Participant(re: re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”))
If you have to pick and choose between which magazines to scan in their intirety – I would rather you scan the Vol 1#1 (it might be hard – it is a newspaper sized one – not 8.5×11) or the Vol #3 one.. since they are scarcer then the 1998 one (although as I said this is the only one I haven’t come across elsewhere) All that being said, Ken will still have them after you leave – I doubt they are going anywhere soon – so don’t sweat over it. Thanks. hope you got some cool stuff scanned in.

Participant(re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”)) V1N1: Yeah the size is a pain, it doesn’t QUITE fit on my scanner… but JUST barely. I’ll do my best and you can decide if it needs to be re-scanned later – one good thing, is it has large margins.
Do you need the alternate Torin’s Passage cover for Holiday 1995?
Do you need the alternate Lord Of The Realm II cover for Fall 1996? -
Unknown,Unknown
Participant(re: re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”)) I have both the Gabriel Knight, and Torins Passage Holliday 1995 Covers – so no.
I only have the Bobby Labonte Cover for the Fall 1996 – it has his mug on it in a helmet. So I guess I need the Lord of the Realm.Thanks.

Participant(re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”)) Fall 1996 Lords cover – done
Holiday 1998 front + back covers – done
Vol 1 # 1 – done (full)

Spring 1998 – sorry, no time (full) – front cover – done
I also scanned an assortment of other covers. In case they are better quality than yours. They have no mailing stickers or anything on them and they’re all near mint. -

Participant(re: re: InterAction Mag. (“Volume 3”)) Excellent.
I had planned on just scanning all the covers in the meantime, so we could have a visual record of the magazines that we have in our midst. Let me know which ones you scanned so I don’t dupe. Thanks
