I’ve been trying to replay Larry 6 on an XP machine.  I can run the game from either Windows or the command prompt, and the graphis are fine, and I get the sound effects, but no music.  So I tried the “run with VDMS” menu that works so well with the other Sierra games, but I keep getting an error message that the game requires another 632 bytes of memory space.  This only happens if I try to use VDMS.  How do I get around this problem?  I want to be able to run the game with all its original music.  Thanks

(Chat It up!) The folks over at Quest Studios have a snazzy and very easy IRC set up to use (no download required), so perhaps we could all set up a time to meet in there, and just chat it up some?

Did you run the “Install.exe” to configure the game’s settings? Be sure “Use your machines extra memory”  is selected under the Memory setting. You can also try installing the Windows version, it seems to work OK. You don’t need VDMSound for Windows programs, of course.

Hi.  Can you tell me what that file does?  Thanks.

Hi collector.  Yes, I did run the install program and configured for the sound card and extended memory.  I still don’t get the music.  Just the sound effects and graphics.  Quite honestly I think a lot of these problems are related to this Sony Vaio laptop I have.  It’s a  couple of years old and I notice form reading other people’s posts that this machine doesn’t seem quite as adaptable to old programs.  I’m on the lookout for a new desktop which probably will solve all these problems.  Thanks for your suggestions though.

(re: re: re: Leisure Suit Larry 6 Memory Error) Basically, it fixes all the problems with the digital sound driver so you don’t get the “Unable to initialize sound hardware” message when you start up the game. Hence why you could play all SCI1 games on a P3 500 laptop, for example.

Thanks for the help.  Setting the music selection to ‘general midi’ as suggested by qfgs worked.  But I did download that file to save in case I need it in the future.
