I’m not sure how many of you are following the news – but we’ve found out that the next LSL game will most likely be set in college (based on a preview of the upcoming CGM magazine cover) and is likely to be titled “Magna Cum Laude”. The news is still developing, so we’ll be posting all of the details on the LarryLives.com website.

We’re not entirely sure that link will remain valid – I don’t think CGM expected anyone to find the image (since it isn’t linked to anything on their site yet). There’s a small chance they may pull it until they are ready to use it on the site – so I would recommend anyone interested look at it ASAP (just to be safe).

Would it be illegal for you to post that picture on your website? That way if they take it off, it will not matter.

I think there would be a copyright issue (if they wanted to persue it), although Im not certain. I’ve DLed a copy, so if they do remove it we can look at that as a possibility. Hopefully they’ll leave it up and it won’t become an issue…

If people are still looking to see the Larry cover of CGM, Adventure Gamers has it up. Unfortunately, it looks like Computer Gamers realized their error & took the preview text down. They mention that it might have similarities to Grand Theft Auto (what, like hookers?) which sounds like it could be cool. Anyway, check out the link below.

(re: re: Larry is going to college!) I treid the link in the post below and it didn’t work, don’t know whether that’s just a problem with my PC or what. Anyhow, the cover can also be viewed on LarryLives.com, the exact text has been posted on our forum!
      Good luck!

(re: re: re: Larry is going to college!) For those who haven’t read my update on Adventure Gamers, a little digging uncovered that the picture was not deleted from the CG website. It was only renamed:

(re: re: Larry is going to college!) New Leisure Suit Larry adventure announced
      Reported 20-10-2003 by
      Link: Evan Dickens(/about/staff.php?id=4)

      Link: (/screenshot.php?id=&screen=999)

A little bit of digging on the website of the magazine
      Link: Computer Games(http://www.computergamesonline.com/cgm/200312-m1.html)
has revealed that none other than Larry Laffer will be on the cover of the December 2003 issue, with a preview of the apparently-confirmed new adventure game, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. The article is not accessible yet, but the teaser makes a reference to similarities to Grand Theft Auto. We have already learned that Al Lowe has nothing to do with this new game.

The December 2003 issue of Computer Games will go on sale November 11th. We will be sure to report more on this as we learn more. At this point, we at Adventure Gamers are simply pleasantly surprised that a classic Sierra license has been revived. Now, our hope is that it is treated well, and we will remain optimistic as to that fact until we have substantial reason to believe otherwise.

Update, 10/21: Al Lowe has spoken! The patriarch of one of adventure gaming’s greatest legacy has spilled everything he knows about the new Leisure Suit Larry game…which isn’t much. He does say that the game has been secretly in development for more than a year, and confirms he’s had nothing to do with it, but still volunteers his services. Read his comments at
      Link: his website(http://www.allowe.com/L-8news.htm)
      .

Update, 10/20: We made a quick call to VU Games (Sierra’s parent company), who predictably declined to comment on the game, as it has not been officially announced. Meanwhile, the above link with the article’s teaser blurb has been removed from the site. It was believed that the LSL cover image was removed as well; however, it has
      Link: only been renamed(http://www.computergamesonline.com/images/cgm/lizard157.jpg)

(re: re: re: Larry is going to college!) There is something funky with the link. Look at the URL when you click it, it’s incorrect. Copy and paste the link and it should work (at any rate, I reposted it and the picture somewhere in here)

(re: re: re: Larry is going to college!) hi everybody, hi Adventure Gamers
I am sorry everybody, but if you have been following the board in the past couple of days, nothing of what has been posted about Larry 8 should be news to you, since Mr.Mongoose and I have been updating the info regularly. The only thing that might seem new is the comparison to GTA. I am sorry, but am I the only one to whom this GTA comment seems … well … like a joke? “It’s like GTA, but with less violence and more sex”ยด, and this from Josh Mandel??? GTA is all about violence and Larry is all about sex. You couldn’t find a game that has less to to with Larry, could you??? Look here: He was trying to be funny!!!

(re: re: re: re: Larry is going to college!) Doing an LSL action game is completely pointless, because the Larry persona has never had anything to do with action. If they wanted to do an action game they could easily make a character up.
I think that the visuals of the game will be different, because this Larry will be the first “real” 3D-Larry, probably looking somewhat like the 3D rendered Larry we know from the rather old “test” avi clip Al Lowe has put up on
      Link: http://www.allowe.com(http://www.allowe.com)
(although all the games have been labelled 3-D animated adventure games the only quest games I know of that actually used rendered 3D graphics were KQ8 and QFG5, following, once more, the call of the future – which eventually seemed to say “adventure games are soon to die, they offer too little action and force people to think indesirably effortfully. Bad for the market!” ;o)
So Josh Mandel may have found the game’s appeal more similar to GTA than the former Larry games and he was definitely joking about that and mocking the Larry fans uprising everywhere (there’s no way the folks at Vivendi don’t know about
      Link: http://www.larrylives.com(http://www.larrylives.com)
and the hordes of fans eager to play a new LSL game and angry that Al isn’t in it.) However, I think that the 3D environment that is being used in the game and in any other game that’s being marketed nowadays will doubtlessly stage the same seduce-and-lose-stew gamers are used to from Larry.
Question: Is Josh Mandel in the design team? And if so, why isn’t Al Lowe?

(re: re: re: re: re: Larry is going to college!)

Actually, Adam Kahn, Vivendi Universal Games Senior PR representative has posted a couple of messages over on the LarryLives.com message board (which, honestly, surprised even me!) so they definately know about it.

I had the same question about Josh’s possible role in game development, and we are trying to figure that out. We’ll probably know pretty soon because just today our sources told us that Sierra is planning on making a public news statement as soon as tomorrow (October 23rd)! Once that happens we’ll probably be bombarded with new info about the new game!

As always, we’ll keep everyone posted!

(Larry is going to college!) thanks, Simon!!!
Thanks for stating some really good points so I’don’t have to ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was afraid I was the only one who thought Josh’s comment was quite funny, but never to be taken seriously. Now at least there’s two of us and I’m feeling better already.
thanks again, and keep checking th news!

(re: Larry is going to college!) I also think that Josh was joking about new adventure games being 3D and with some action elements, it would be very odd seeing a game looking like Grand theft auto where you have to date girls, Josh commentary has been taken very seriously, a lot of sites say about the posibility of that new lsl game being like GTA, seems people is getting very mad by this joke! -_- Anyway i wouldnt be very surprised if it looks like The sims or like any “social life simulator” but more oriented to sex… dont know, time will tell.
