ParticipantHello,
I’ve been dying to play KQ7 for a while, so I decided to install it on my Windows 98 computer. The installation proved successful, but now when I try to start the game through the icon on the start menu, I get the “This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down” error message. When I try to open it through the Sierraw.exe file in the KQ7 folder, I get a “Panic: Can’t find SIERRA.ERR” message. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I’ve tried changing my screen resolution to 640×480 and colors to 256, and I’ve also tried copying the Sierraw.exe file from the CD to my hard drive. Nothing has worked.
I decided to try to install the game on my Windows XP computer, but I got an error message during the installation. The message occured while the setup was doing the CD-ROM test. I have multiple CD-ROM drives on both computers, would that have anything to do with it?
I’m completely at a loss here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

ParticipantThe setup crashes with the CD-ROM test because it simply cannot comprehend the modern CD-ROM drive speeds. Simply ignore the tests 🙂

ParticipantThanks for your help. I tried ignoring the tests and still got the same problem. I finally figured it out, though. It turns out that the game was conflicting with another program. It was trying to use memory that another program was using. As it was a Windows protection program, though, I couldn’t delete it. So I ended up trying it on yet ANOTHER computer and it’s finally working. Thanks anyway. 🙂
