ParticipantHi! (: I was wondering if anyone can provide any info about the existence of the Lolotte-Genesta KQ4 cover art. I want to know if any sketches or paintings exist.
Thanks,
Tal. (: -

Yeah, they actually do. I know that it was either in an issue of Interaction, The Sierra Magazine, or one of the leaflets included with an older game of mine. It was a really cool box, and I will try to find a copy of it. If anyone else remembers where it was, let me know.

Participant(re: re: KQ4 unreleased cover art) Yes, I’ve seen this cover art in ’88 summer catalog, but it was never released, so only sketches are available. I think you can only obtain those from Ken or Roberta Williams, or a former Sierra artist.

I remember seeing this art in a catalog or magazine, and liking it better than the final art… but I was always distracted by Genesta’s breasts. (And I was a 10 year old girl!)

Your right about the adultness of that picture. Thats more like the The Perils of Larry.

Participant(re: re: re: re: KQ4 unreleased cover art) Assuming my memory is correct….
Some of the early Kings Quest box art was done by the artist “David Mann” who specialized in doing paintings for motorcycle magazines (like Easyrider). I can’t see the box cover well enough to say for certain, but it looks like this is a Mann painting.

Participant(re: re: re: re: re: re: KQ4 unreleased cover art) Roberta is standing next to me…
She says she doesn’t remember this particular cover. The cover that she remembers is taken from a painting that we have (the original to) at home. It’s of Rosella on a horse, being attacked by flying demons. She doesn’t know where this cover came from. Strange. Maybe it was deemed too controversial and not used. I don’t remember any controvery around it though.

Participant(re: KQ4 unreleased cover art) Good job finding his website. I searched casually earlier today and didn’t find it.
Alright, since I’ve been contacting lots of other artists / designers, I’ve sent David an email to see if he is the artist and what he can remember about it, and if he has any sketches / painting of it still (or any other Sierra artwork for that matter). If anyone else has already emailed him, please refer him back to me if he replies to you.
Very cool to hear that you have the original KQ4 box art painting Ken. That’d definitely be something to get a hi-res scan of as we collect your stuff (if it’s not irremovably mounted or something, that is).
