Today I stumbled across a Kings Quest Collection Series 2 (1997) and snapped it up.  Was complete with box, 3 CDs, manual, registration card, et all.  I have the XP collection and most of the individual games, but just couldn’t resist.  Got it home and for fun looked to see how the CDs were organized.  Disk 1 of 3 posted as CD #2.  When I inserted Disk 2 of 3 it also showed a label of CD #2  and had what appeared to be identical files.  Didn’t check them all, but the ones I did had the identical number of byes.  These are original commercial disks with the gold  and silver letters on purple background.  What with the box, etc, I’m not thinking counterfit.  Am I missing something here?  Is there a suttle difference for installation in the three different OSs supported, so there are two almost identical CDs?  Otherwise the CDs can’t be rewritten, so perhaps I have a misprinted disk.  Does anyone know anything about this, or is ?

Hrm. You mentioned it had 3 CDs (I can’t remember that set off hand – does it only have 3 CDs? I can’t imagine it had more, since most of the games fit on one CD from the older games)… So what I would do is check the CDs (all three of them) make sure that they’re not just misprinted somehow. But my guess is, you’re the unlucky victim of someone who got that rare one that got two of the same CDs stuffed into the collection. (Human error somewhere along the line!) However, if you have all the original CDs and you could possibly verify by photo that you have it (say, if someone said, “Take a picture of the original box, holding up three fingers in the photo!” or something random like that) – you may want to visit Sierra Help forums ( http://www.sierrahelp.com/forums ) and see if you can’t find help there.

It does have 3 CDs.  The set has KQ I-VII, a sneak preview of KQ-Mask of Eternity, and three other bonus games.  It is for DOS, 3.1, & 95.  There’s a pretty good description in Wikipedia, and perhaps elsewhre on this site.  Disks are labled 1 of 3 –3 of 3, which is as it should be.  It’s when the CDs are viewed in Windows Explorer that both disk 1 and disk 2 both show a label of CD 2 and appear to have the same file.  I have a DOS/3.1 and a Win 95 machines, so I’ll try to load and see what happens.  Perhaps that will tell me if I have a disk that was mislabeled in the assembly process.  Too bad it isn’t a misprinted postage stamp.  I’d have hit the jackpot!  Meanwhile, I’ll check the help forum as suggested and post what happened when I try to load sometime in the next few days.  Thanks
