      Hello all,

I recently discovered this site and allowe.com out of boredom and by way of some Google searches. While it makes me happy to see Ken, Roberta, and Al still communicate with the fans…what the $@%!$ happened to Sierra? I haven’t been involved in PC gaming for over 10 years (about right after Doom and it’s clones took over), and it saddens me deeply to see that Sierra has become less than a shell of it’s former self. At least the memories are alive, right?

Ken – I read your opening statement, and I have one word for you – GHOSTWRITER! Lots of people with interesting stories to tell have enlisted a professional writer to help them write, and there is no shame in going that route. I would love to see a book someday about Sierra’s heyday, and I’m sure it would be very popular.

Maybe it’s because I’m young, fairly poor, and mostly bored that I say this, but what do you guys do now? You’re all still relatively young, even Al Lowe is still younger than the standard retirement age. With the improved computing technology, the Internet, and relatively little capital you guys could re-start Sierra and once again start producing 2-D adventure games – low-tech games by todays standards, but with smaller budgets and better technologies it could be done. Of course, the company couldn’t be named Sierra, new characters would have to be created, and even the business model would be different since you’d be catering to a niche market instead of a growing mass market. Hell, you might not even make money, but you’d have a legion of grateful fans once again playing great adventure games. The communal atmospher of Oakhurst could be re-created online and you’d be sticking it to VU and every other corporate stooge that gave you guys the collective shaft over the years. What do you think?

I know I’m replying to my own message, but if you want further inspiration for this idea, check out the newly reinstated and improved American subsidiary of SNK. Once a powerhouse of arcade and console arcade 2-D gaming, SNK fell on hard times. Now they’re back making niche console games. They even just released a 2-D remake game for the Xbox – Metal Slug 3! It can and is being done!

(re: Ken!) I know I’m replying to my own message once again, but I wanted to mention that I realize now I posted this on the wrong board. Ignore, and I shall be ashamed. All of these questions and ideas have probably already been answered anyway somewhere else…

Ken – I did want to mention that you might have read some critical comments I made (under the handle “oldsierragamer”)about the design of your site on Al Lowe’s board. I apologize for being an a**hole, but I’m personally more of a style over substance guy, while this site is definitely a text book example of substance (a record amount of it) over style (although I’m beginning to appreciate the retro feel of the design since this is a site dedicated mostly to Sierra nostalgia. I have a fansite (http://lowrock.com)  that I’ve intentionally designed in a retro fashion).

This is as good a time as any to mention that both Brad and I (Brad’s the other admin here) watch all the posts, and we will move posts into the correct area if they’re in the wrong place. It can be confusing which area is best to post in. That is one of the things I will be working on making more clear. So if you ever find your post is missing, it’s likely just been moved. And you can find it again by going to “System” / “New Messages,” if it’s a recent post just click on it there and you’ll be able to find out the new location.
