      Ken, I’m set for instant notification. I haven’t gotten any emails since yesterday afternoon and there have been tons of new posts. Can you check if there’s a problem with it? Has anyone else had a problem with the emails? I really rely on them.

      And yes, my email is functioning fine and it’s got plenty of space in it.

      (re: Is email notification not working?) Just to give you an update, Ken.

      This morning (Sat Aug 7) around 8 am I received a whole ton of messages in one email: 51560 – 51654 (if anyone else got the same thing and less emails in it, don’t worry, some of those emails were in restricted areas of the site).

      However, I haven’t received messages that have been posted since then – but I did get some very strange emails from the site that I made some time ago to first try out talkspot features (earth2), including 2 emails with copy of message 51663 from this website (“immediate update of new messages… Sierra On-Line Fan Site”) even though the From address was from my test website (earth2), and then a third email telling me, as admin, that message 51663 had bounced from someone’s email address. Let me know if you want to see those emails and if so I’ll forward them.

      (re: Is email notification not working?) This was a comedy of errors (actually a horror story).

      I use an independent company to send the notification emails every 5 minutes. Apparently sometime in the last 24 hours they stopped sending them, without telling me. I assume their system is down, hopefully it will be back tomorrow.

      My first thought was that the problem was mine. I was looking everywhere to see why the emails weren’t going, and decided to implement some performance fixes while I was in the code. In so doing, I broke something. It was a MAJOR mistake, and resulted in 1,000+ emails going out. Horribly embarrasing, and a nuisance for those who received them.

      I believe I understand what happened now, and why it won’t happen again — but, am worried about what the story is with the independent company that caused the problem in the first place (
